No fighting games after Street Fighter II should have ever been made. It was a perfect 2D fighter… why change or adjust anything?!
Every season 2 character overpowers every season 1 character.
Except Fulgore, Jago, Sadira, Glacius, Shago and Spinal.
Don’t forget about thunder, orchid, and saberwulf, those knee busters, grapples and feral cancels are not to be ■■■■■■ with.
There’s so much wrong with the OP, and with his subsequent posts that I really consider this a salt/troll thread and I’m a bit hesitant to post here. I think some of the subsequent discussion has been interesting (love the Tusk videos), but I just have to comment on a pet peeve of mine. Just because the game released in seasons, and DH worked on S1 but not S2 or S3 does not mean that anything you liked about S1 was the responsibility of DH and anything you don’t like about S2 and S3 is the responsibility of IG.
The best evidence for this comes from Fulgore and Spinal. The last two characters released in S1 look a heck of a lot like S2 characters to me. They have tricky setups, both have teleports (therefore high mobility), both have crazy moves and tools. It’s really tough to say that Spinal and Fulgore don’t fight right in with the S2 cast. Five of the original 6 characters have very basic brawler/rushdown styles (Glacius is the exception - and another character who could arguably fit the conception of a S2 character better). This makes sense because they were the first characters introduced into the game, and those styles fit with their original styles from previous games (more or less). Truthfull, even this characterization breaks down as you move to higher level play. But most of the changes that get labelled as S2 or S3 choices “moving away from S1” are clearly not that at all. They are just the logical necessities of going from 6 characters to 24. You can’t just keep adding the same characters with the same small toolbox but different haircuts. Keeping everything the same just isn’t an option.
You’re not meant to help him make a more coherent point.
But seriously, as a mathematician I’m hesitant to take the distinction you make at face value. It can be surprising the kinds of seemingly continuous problems that turn out to really be combinatorial in nature.
Also, since we seem to be having one of those conversations, I think it’s worth saying that I think pressure is generally deep and enjoyable, especially in KI.
There is so much wrong with some of the posts in this thread I can’t even.
First off, we’re back to the “S1 characters suck” idea, which is not true by any means whatsoever. Fulgore has been considered for #1 in the whole game, Jago and Orchid and Thunder are extremely solid characters with tools for everything, Spinal is just ridiculous, and Sadira and Sabrewulf have always been really good.
Second, no footsies? Footsies are like the only way I can do anything in this game, especially when learning a new character. Spacing means everything. Complex combos mean nothing if you can’t start them. Fight my Orchid or Kim sometime and I’ll show you how effective footsies are.
Also, if this game was like the originals, it would suck. The originals were great back then, but the mechanics in that game would just not be good today. Also, it’s a good thing DH/IG came along, cause the game had to evolve. Let’s say IG never continued the game and it was just left at the end of S1. Yeah, it would’ve totally been fine to leave it as it was with only 8 characters and bs like Sadira’s unbreakables.
If you have problems fighting characters, don’t make yourself look like a fool by whining on the forums and blaming it on the devs. #EvolveOrDie
Just a general thought here…
Why post an opinion if you’re not willing to have a conversation about it? That is to say, the idea of “I’ve said what I said and nothing you can say will make me change my opinion.”
Knowing full well that the developers aren’t going to change the entire game to suit you or the two or three others that may agree with you, you’re basically only advertising the fact that you’re closed minded.
You’re not willing to listen to anyone that either knows a lot about the game or someone that actually works on the game itself. To me, that’s a little sad.
I’m not saying that you have to change your mind, but to simply state “nothing anyone says will change my opinion” is just burying your head in the sand. What are you honestly getting out of that? At that point, you’re not even interested in talking about it or gaining a better understanding than you have currently. You’re just ranting to feel better, and no new information is welcome.
If that’s the case, you really don’t need to go to a website to do that since you’re clearly not interested in what any of us have to say. Just go outside and shout it to the wind, I guess.
Exactly - may as well find an overpass and Spraypaint “K.I.S.3. SUXXX” on it.
Eh… I’m not sure that works here. At least graffiti artists are willing to discuss their work.
Also, it’s “should never have been”, @Dism3mbermenT.
All of are trying to sway me why argue back?
We’re just saying what we are saying, I guess.
You’ve stated your opinion, now we’re saying ours.
This is what happens when you post on game forums.
What’s the point of making an incredibly public post about something without wanting to engage? What did you expect people to say?
OP basically threw ■■■■ at a wall, then everybody else tried to paint a mural with it.
If you wanted footies and fundamentals, there are specific characters for those types of things like Jago and Kim Wu. One of the beauties of this game is that there are a very diverse roster of characters with many different designs and fit a lot of different playstyles. As for the mechanics, games change. They evolve new systems all the time. Look at the jump from SF4 to SFV.
Kim Wu sucks.
why you gotta do waifu like dat mang. You know a Kim Wu player made it in the top 4 of the first KI Pro League Tournament
That was me lol
The lack of solid footsies really hurts KI’s longevity for me, more than anything.
If KI had SF5-level footsies on top of everything, it would be top 3 best-playing fighter of all time.
As someone that loves KOF98 and SF2 above all others, I feel KI relies way too much on the combo/read/mindgame aspect of it. I just cannot watch an entire bracket without getting tired of it or play more than 5 matches without feeling like I need more meat in those bones.
KI feels like you’re playing the in-between attacks instead of actually playing with the actual attacks. Individual attacks mean very little in KI. So much so that every patch freely destroys entire mechanics and even gives entire concepts and moves and mechanics to different characters just because Keits played theory-fighter with a concept and decided to give a character’s life-drain to someone else or whatever.
I feel like KI is theory-gimmick-fighter instead of an actual fighting game that you play in the present.
I also think KI 2013 fails to deliver the aesthetic and in-your-face appeal KI1 and KI2 had, which made-up for the simplistic combo-focus they had. Even Ultras and finishers still look better in KI1 and 2.
