No! Don’t do it! Move on! It’s not worth it! Trust me! DANGER! DANGER!
Oh, wait… I’m too late.
Bravo, sir! Kudos! Well said! You handled that magnificently!

Actually Smash 4 has the has a costume for ZSS in a sports bra and short And that was decided by their female at the company so it’s possible.
We also have him too
Things seem to be getting a little heated in here. Just a friendly reminder to all to keep this discussion civil. If you find yourself getting a little too worked up, take a breather, and come back later. This is a topic worth discussion, but not worth persecution.
I’ve already left at this point. I’m just here to see what others say and to enjoy the show. Now SSHH! You might ruin the best parts!
Well that’s nice to see! A sports bra and shorts still reads as totally practical to me, allows for freedom of movement, breathable and showing enough skin to be sexy without being all out lewd, bravo!
Not all that sure about the dodgy cycling shorts though and…is that dude wearing clogs?
If you don’t think that women are objectified in our society to a much MUCH greater degree than men, then you’re not looking hard enough and no offense, but you also don’t have a firm grasp on the issue. I mean this with all due respect intended, really, but perhaps you should look in to the issue a bit more and focus on it from the perspective of both sides.
Why is that reason enough though? Why does nostalgia trump every other potential downfall that so many others have mentioned?
See below:
Yes, just as there is nothing wrong with people suggesting other ideas or pointing out reasons why your ideas or mine aren’t what we think are best for the franchise It’s a two way street and we both know that.
I’ve brought up several reasons why sexy outfits like group swimwear, group evening wear or any other type of outfits that lump any and all characters, male or female together are less than ideal when other options that could really flesh out each individual character could be done, and that I think that adds more value to the game.
You seemingly want Orchid’s butt to hang out because it happened in 1995 so it should happen now. I personally don’t see why that’s a good argument, especially in the face of what others have said and what potential pitfalls such thinking can have, but that’s fine. It’s your argument. You’re obviously entitled to your opinion.
Okay, really? I think we can all agree on what “sexy” is when developers actually make a concerted effort to give us something sexy. C’mon now. Let’s not get in to definitions and individual tastes here.
We’re talking about intent here. Are they trying to shove certain parts of the female anatomy in our faces or are they trying to give us something that a fighter would wear in a practical setting?
I for one would love to see a Sadira “pre-REoR” fighter outfit for her. Thing is, when I see “sexy” as the focus of a thread, it tells me that the intent here is create content specifically designed to titillate men and I’m saying I don’t need that to enjoy a game and I also don’t need any outfits for any character that aren’t something they’d wear in a fight or wear from their history to flesh them out as a character. I don’t need any packs of swimwear or evening gowns / tuxedos, or anything that homogenizes a bunch of characters for the sake of some fetish or whatever. If you agree that better things can be done with individual characters, then we’re on the same page.
So it’s not okay for Thunder to look like a stereotype, but it’s okay for Orchid to look like a stripper with a one piece and thigh highs because Sadira’s outfit is slightly risqué? Eh, I disagree, but I think we can both agree that this is subjective. No worries.
If this is what we’re talking about, then I’m going to respectfully disagree.
Original KI was the one that had her in the shorts. You don’t think that’d go over a little more easily then the KI2 look?
If you think that Latina women dress like Laura from Street Fighter “all the time,” then you need to meet some more Latin women. Just… Wow.
Alright, on that note… It’s been fun. Good talking with you guys about this, as always. Can’t imagine anyone saying anything that would change my mind after almost 200 posts (or in the many previous threads about this) and I know I’m not changing anyone’s mind either, so we can happily agree to disagree and I’ll just move along to other threads. Glad MS has done it the way they have so far, and I hope it continues that way. Also hoping we get some cool new character outfits soon!
Here’s my suggestion: this topic was merely meant as a request to the devs regarding something that the OP wants. If you guys want to expand that topic to a much bigger discussion, then perhaps it’s probably best to do so elsewhere, like in another thread in the off-topic subforum, or perhaps in PMs.
I don’t think you’re being fair here because you’re already locked into your reasoning. We can’t change how you think neither can you change how we think; that’s like asking 2+2 to not = 4. It will always be 4 not 5. What’s funny is that most females gamers don’t give a crap about what fake female characters wear in video games. I fee like asking woman from our specific community like Cheereez what she thinks on the matter.
You and others haven’t provided me any good explanation to not allow “sexy” costumes into the game other than A, I don’t want my kids to see or B, I don’t want to put fake characters into costumes that real people wear everyday anyways.
We aren’t taking about Abortion here, or suicide, or any other substantial worldly issues, we’re simply talking about video games here…this is pretty silly. The game is rated T for a reason, if people have a problem not seeing skin in video games I’m sorry then they should be more careful about what games they play and not complain about fake people wearing outfits.
He has a point, if I’m in a tournament am I really going to be staring at the butt of my character? No I’m going to be focused on winning the match.
This is exactly what I’m talking about. “You” may not need Orchid in a thong to enjoy the game but for some others do. Who are you to say this stuff shouldn’t be in the game? If someone has a fetish of feet then we better sensor Sako in the game then…This whole argument is pretty silly.
I can’t confirm, but I do believe this to be true. Many have simply come to accept it as things are. Is that bad? Maybe, but that’s not going to be decided here.
That’s another sweeping generalisation, female gamer right here and I already gave my 2 cents worth, so there’s that. shrugs @MaruMDQ was here, too.
I was wrong to generalize here, but when I say most I mean all the ones I talk to and I know a ton of female gamers even streamers. Never have I once seen a complaint from a woman about how video game characters are dressed especially in T or Mature rated games. The only time I hear talk about this stuff is from males speaking for other woman.
LOL, I guess there’s no point in trying to walk away. Alright, let’s see…
Then maybe you should change the “you’re” and “your” in that first sentence to “we’re” and “our.” Don’t make it seem like I’m the closed minded one when you’re not looking to budge either. I’m simply observing the fact that none of your arguments are convincing me, and none of mine are convincing you either. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Really, and I can’t stress this enough, but you need to stop with the hyperbole. Stop with the “most people” this or “thousands of people on the old board” stuff. It actually does you a disservice when you’re trying to make a point because you’re speaking for tons of other people and no one is as like-minded as you are with yourself. So just speak for yourself. Please.
That’s a rather substantial misrepresentation of what others have said. My points tended to circle on what I said here below:
If you disagree with that, then fine. No problem. But my argument was never “the kids” plus whatever you were trying to communicate in B.
Yes, we’re on a video game forum having a debate about a video game. By your logic here, we should never debate anything at all as it pertains to this game because it’s not a substantial issue like abortion or suicide. Does that honestly make sense to you?
By that same token, people that have games where there’s not a ton of skin should go play other games that have it instead of trying to force developers in to having it, even over the objections of other fans that have said they neither want or need it.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s bad, GG. How about we actually try to be better than that? Just because women are constantly bombarded by their own sexualizing and objectification, should we really see that as reason to pile on some more?
Do you think that it’s even slightly possible that women might not want to complain about this in a setting with guys for any particular reason? Like they don’t want to be seen as uncool or “triggered” or a feminazi or whatever? They don’t want to alienate themselves from the community or voice an unpopular opinion in a group largely constituted by the opposite sex? Just throwing that out there.
I never said that, you misunderstood it completely.
I was trying to suggest that perhaps comparing video game characters that don’t matter and aren’t real…like at all, to worldly issues that actually matter is probably not a good idea. I think there are more stressing issues in the world to worry about than fighting over what fake video game characters should or should not be wearing. I keep hearing the oversexualization of woman yet I go to watch TV and see a Victoria’s Secret commercial on of willing woman to scant around half naked in bras and underwear. How about we let woman speak for themselves and not have men do the talking for them.
If my video games all of sudden start to cause worldly harm them come back to me.
It’s truly sad that our community continues to have this same ■■■■■■■ “debate” over and over again (including the absolutely ludicrous “give us the original retros…because” argument) when it has been stated time and time again by members of both the MS and IG dev teams that the game will not be given content which could push it to an M rating, including costumes which could be viewed as oversexualized and insensitive.
This is as bad, or worse, than the ultra-violence begging for decapitations.
I sincerely feel sorry for the female members of our community, because I seriously doubt they enjoy having to repeatedly read threads where males are defining (and speaking for) the way their gender should be displayed.
As to the “why is this discussion always about the female characters?” question; I have never seen a thread created asking for a costume with portions of male genetalia completely exposed.
Think about that for a minute.
I would like for everyone to remember the OP, and that it returned to transcribe the audio track from a money shot just to keep us all on topic. That said, in conclusion:
Resource allocation, parentage, morality, taste, unnecessary sexualization are not valid reasons against flapping buttcheeks and panty shots, because Japan and LCD said nostalgia is more important than anything else.
The things that exist and do not exist in the game are not indicitive at all of MS creative intentions for their product.
Women in our community don’t count (as women or as valid opinions) unless LCD knows them personally or they stream.
Am I missing anything?
@CrazyLCD Do you ever try to critically comprehend the things that are typed at you, or do you just sort of skim to see whether or not it agreed with you before repeating yourself again? Have you ever heard the phrase “quit while you’re ahead?”.
I’m pretty sure I just brought up both these points.
I get your point.
Ooh, ooh, he heard it from me!!!
…but I was too late.
I’ve never been ahead, my opinion on this topic has been constantly scrutinized for no reason from the ladder who disagree with said opinion. These forums can never have a conversation with one another without some type of blame game being shoved to one party. You’ve just done it here simply because I’ve been one of few to keep the discussion going.
One could only assume there were woman present on these forums and I’m glad @NitricZenith told me so. I value her opinion more than most in here because shes not a man.
I’d it just me or is this thread devolving into the realm of whiskey tango foxtrot? It’s supposed to be gaining support for giving more costume choices to all the characters, now it sounds like I need my lawyer present to help navigate the social inequality and sexism in gaming. News flash, I don’t care about the sexism in gaming, or in society. That’s not why I’m here reading this thread, watching it morph into some word civil matter. Can we get back to the game now?
I can attest to this…
