Reactions like this are why I think the idea is hilarious. I wouldn’t care either way, I liked the games as a kid but now I’m not really biased in either direction. But seeing people absolutely hate it would fill me with delight.

(Just replace ‘scientist’ with ‘lead designer’ or whoever they have deciding on roster picks over there.)

Ngl, after Injustice 2 had all four ninja turtles, Id be in favor if they added a more gritty/violent version of The Shredder The Foot Clan vs both Shirai ryu and Lin Kuei, that’d be pretty sick. The guy’s already covered in blades and spikes, he’d fit right in.
Plus if they really wanted to go all out with homages, maybe they could probably recast Scott Rayow from the 2003 series, his menacing tone of voice just screams MK to me.

Now we have yet to see characters like Reptile, Noob Saibot, ect.
But scorpion and Sub-Zero, they are siblings now?

Honestly this game looks like exactly what I was afraid of. It’s just another Mortal Kombat game with no real hook. Not a trilogy. Not a GKL game. Not even a post apocalyptic Shang Tsung game. Just… a box standard boring MK.
Also I think other hat guy is supposed to be human Raiden

The website. I checked the website. It mentions something called “Kameo Fighters”. Quote: Choose from a unique roster of Kameo fighting partners to assist you in battle.

Interesting how the game did in fact pick up where Liu Kang turned the timeline. So I guess making it a trilogy/Armageddon was not going to happen.
Though I hear that Shang Tsung may have invaded form his timeline which is why he opened up that portal. Just as a possibility.

That trailer was gorgeous! My goodness. Loved how Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung and Liu Kang looked. Going to need to see more of Kung Lao and Raiden.
Starting to wonder… Is this game actually SET in the Great Kung Lao era? Shang Tsung is young, there seems to be no guns or tech of any kind in the trailer… And the FAQ basically says that Liu Kang created a new timeline and characters will be reimagined as you’ve never seen them before.
Now maybe that just means that they’ll be redone versions of the characters like they always are. But still. Kinda makes me wonder.

The trailer looks good. Interesting to see a take on the first MK tournament. I’m assuming Shang Tsung is going to be the big bad looking to usurp Liu Kang(?). Either that, or he is going to be a possible main character and the story will depend on some type of morality system ala “Bioshock”. I think this exploration of the past has potential, especially in terms of exploring Shang Tsung’s character imo. What has me very curious, though, is Raiden’s character; since he is no longer a god, what is his role going to be in this game?
I’m also wondering, since the game is set sometime in the past, will we see Sonya and Johnny Cage’s ancestors? I think a guest character like Lord Deimos from “Mace: The Dark Age” would be perfect given the timeline, plus, technically speaking, Warner Bros should own the rights to “Mace” along with various other Midway titles. Him, along with Homelander and/or Soldier Boy from “The Boys” (if you want to go with the blast from the past angle, why not go with the walking nuke?).

I need to see more before I can get excited. I’m sorry but graphics alone are not enough to wow me. And they haven’t shown me enough of a hook to get me actually excited.
Also, I don’t think the game is set in the past. I think we’ve just only seen places that are more fantasy inspired, even in the present. Scorpion, Sun-Zero, and Kung Lao are not immortal and would not have been born yet by this time.

Having Shang Tsung be the “Pre Order Now” character seems a bit scummy ngl, especially if he’s supposed to play a bigger role in the story.
Plus wasnt he already dlc in MK11? Talk about double dipping.
Same thing happened with Shao Kahn last time.
But who knows. Maybe he was just in this trailer to illustrate his status as a pre-order bonus. Like, since when has the cinematic from the first trailer ever actually been in the final game?

The website also says that Johnny Cage will be on the roster and he will get a Jeanne Claude Van Damme skin as DLC and that the first Kombat Pack will give us Six fighters.
It also mentions something called crystals so there’s some sort of in game currency meaning the odds of it being grindy and gross like MK11 and MVS are growing.

Gonna take a safe bet and say those clips were all from Story Mode. The way everything was shot looked pretty legit, apposed to MKx and MK11’s reveal trailers. (Thankfully they didnt include any mumble rap this time.)
Top that with the QA page announcing more online-only bs, sorta tells me we’re gonna have something just as, if not more grindy than Towers of Time.
I hope Im wrong, but this is WB games. Afterall…
