This forum is toxic. In the words of Wally Franks, “I’m Outta Here”
I just find it bizarre that Street Fighter somehow managed to deliver a psudo ‘Konquest mode’, meanwhile MK1 thought a board game with unfair modifiers and enemies with invincible armor shielding, would be good enough on its own.
Strange times we live in.
This part alone sounds demotivating.
yeah invasion is not exactly impressive, But honestly don’t have much in ideas except
1-a real tournament mode
2-More outfits and Costumes.
Oddly enough Reptile’s colors don’t quite impressment so far, but as invasion mode goes I will eventfully find an outfit that looks good.
I did find a mask I like though
Off hand, I could think of a few ideas… (Reasonable ones, I’d hope.)
-
Tournament Mode (Offline use against CPU, which could earn the player koins.)
-
Proper Konquest Mode (With no BS “konsumables” or ‘Dragon Krystals’ or ‘Time Krystals’ or “Hsu Hao Crystals” or whatever mobilegame garbage they want to shoehorn in just for a quick buck.)
-
The Krypt (Not the shrine. And definitelynot RNG based like MK11’s.)
-
Standard 1v1 (Maybe regular Tag Team ala MK9, minus Kameos for said mode to keep it balanced. Speaking of…)
-
MORE KAMEOS (Like, the whole point of them was to “Save roster slots” and “adding characters who aren’t in the game” but thats just not the case. Only a handful of assist characters is really all you get, aside from later DLC. And Three of those Kameos are already on default roster. Just feels like a waste. A cool idea in theory, but they really dropped the ball on this idea I feel.)
-
Regular Challenge Tower like MK9(Something thats actually fun to play, and less a tedious chore than ToT or Invasions.)
-
Costumes that doesn’t look like an AI Generated them (I’m sorry that I keep harping on this part, but I literally cannot unsee it from how uninspired they all look. Scorpion’s “Hanzo Skin” to me just looks like a mesh of spikes and metal bits. Compared to his MK9 attire, it looks a lot less majestic imo.)
(IDK, maybe Im wrong, but it really comes off that way. His alt is just one example I had. Nitara’s default skin comesclose second.)
- And I suppose lastly, just having the game not feel like it’s incomplete.
I get DLC and Patches is a common thing these days, but at the very least the base game should be competent enough to warrant the asking price without having so many issues at launch. Injustice 2 was probably the last “complete” game NRS really did, pre DLC.
MK11 and MK1 just feel like a massive step backwards by comparison.
I do know the plan for Kameo’s will be getting enough throughout MK’s history.
I’m going to say it before I forget to. If you really think that Megan Fox did a great job voice acting as Nitara in MK1, then I simply cannot take you seriously.
Theory Time) : Had NRS not spent so much(Presumably) on both her and Batista for that one launch trailer, they probably could’ve used the leftover money to actually fill out the final character slots. (For Main roster and Kameo)
Simmilar to my theory in MK11 with Ronda Rousy, I feel by having celebrity voices, it costed us things like having both Sektor and Cyrax as playable characters for that game, instead of reducing them as NPCs.
(Possibly Ermac too seeing he had a new original design, only to be wasted as a single cutscene in the Krypt.)
Ofc, this is just my assumption… but lets be real, that scenario is definitely a possibility. Celebrities taking a massive chunk of the profit is very common.
How the ■■■■ do you put a price tag on a Fatality? A “seasonal” Fatality at that.
Hold up.. Ten dollars just for that one Jack O Lantern Fatality? Now they’re just taking the p-ss…
Why they couldn’t just make it a free update just shows how little they think of their fanbase. Seriously, thats some EA levels of greed right there. No excuses.
yeha that sounds abit much
Times like this, really makes me wish for another videogame crash, ala E.T.
Like is nothing sacred anymore? When did standards get so low…
(Especially in this current economy where prices for basic necessities are rising every second. These games have no right hiking up the prices like this when theres so little content to show for it. Its getting ridiculous.)
fI’ve taken an economic class about this kind of cycle when prices go up and stuff, but thats a topic for another time.
Still ridiculous though.
We really are at the point where a Fatality (in spite of it being a seasonal Fatality of which any character can perform it) is locked behind a paywall. Not a free update for fans who already paid a lot of money for MK1 as is, just another item for sale.
I’m never going to be okay with that, because this type of practice needs to stop.
People paid money for a game. IMO, it’s only fair that WB Games and NRS would try to give paying customers what they want and not try to monetize everything (I.E. in-game currency, alt. outfits, fatalities, etc.,)
All we can do is vote with our wallets. Which as an MK fan, saddens me to even say that.
But NRS showed they’re finally at the phase where taking advantage of their customers is more important than releasing a full functioning product. I dont care if its because some WB exec making the decisions, NRS needs to put their foot down and tell those execs “NO”
-
NO to charging for characters who are already in the story mode.
-
NO to adding egregious microtransactions and grindy modes like Invasions or Towers of Time for a quick buck.
-
NO to ALWAYS ONLINE DRM regarding unlocks and offline singleplayer modes. (Which fun fact, apparently on Steam, DLC characters dissappear once the network disconnects, meaning anyone who bought Shang Tsung literally CANT USE HIM if their internet goes out. So again, totally unacceptable.)
- NO to selling a game in a state thats clearly not finished or properly bug tested. Fans deserve better! Period.
Unfortunately, nobody over there is willing to have the backbone to stand up to those practices, which as a longtime fan tells the game just isn’t worth getting at all. “Komplete” Edition or not.
They already opened Pandoras Box, hard to earn that trust back after spitting in the faces of their real fans.
(I also feel I should emphasize I HATE having this mindset about MK1. I dont wanna be “That Guy”, but like how could you not after how many problems have been reported just WEEKS after launch? Four years of development, and nobody on the dev saw these problems before release?! Something needs to change.)
Mortal Kombat games being games as a service is very demotivating. Even worse so since we can’t even use DLC’s offline on Steam.
What’s the point of selling Homelander, Omni-Man, Peacemaker, etc., if we can’t even play as those characters offline? I honestly hope Steam players drop this game entirely before there’s an actual event where either A.) the servers are down or permanently shut down and/or B.) the internet servers are shut down worldwide and there’s no internet for nearly a whole year.
Money well saved.
Figured to bring it up considering the “Jack o Lantern” dlc is news to me. I just assumed it was a free update. Jokes on me I guess…
But locking out characters that were already paid for, thats where I draw the line to not support this game. Thats just insulting. Theres literally no other word to describe it.
If you buy a character, there is no excuse to revoke access to them just because the network goes down. That is indefensible.
Yeah honestly, as much as I love MK, this game is really starting to feel like a base shell that they released so they can immediately get that store out there and start cranking out skins, fatalities, gear and other crap they used to simply put in the game for $5, $10, $15, $20 etc.
The sad part is that people will support it. Some people will grumble about it and keep buying those dragon crystals or whatever, while the whales will spend their money on every overpriced item and things will only change for the worse. WB will check the sales and say “okay, they’ll buy a $10 fatality, maybe they’ll buy a $15 fatality” or a $20 skin, or a $30 skin pack. They already have a pack in the premium shop that roughly $20 and it’s seriously like 3 skins with a few different palettes and some gear pieces.
It’s just sad to see NRS either willingly or unwillingly turn one of the best franchises in gaming for over 30 years into a storefront with a game loosely built around it.
That really is the sad truth to it all. I may not buy the game, but for every 1 person who doesn’t theres guaranteed 10 more who will jump in with a wad of cash just to splurge it on anything they see. (People with very little self control, or those who are still naive to what’s going on in gaming.)
Or even more saddening, the opposite may be true. Say the game does manage to underperform, a large portion of fans getting sick and STOP supporting the game altogether, WB will only see it as “Whelp, guess MK isn’t popular anymore” and just drop the IP completely, instead of “Maybe our greedy tactics pushed real fans away. What should we do differently?”
It’s just frustrating how these companies never take accountability! Its so obvious what the problem was, but they refuse to acknowledge it.
Every time this happens they ALWAYS learn the wrong lesson, it’s literally no different than what happened to Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. Fans just wanted GOOD games that aren’t trying to nickle and dime them every second, but apparently thats asking for too much these days.
I’m just very disappointed in NetherRealms. Id expect this type of behavior from Electronic Arts. Not from the team that gave us MK9. Just sucks imo.
I already bought the game but I’am keeping hold of my money anyway because my current financial situation is not giving me the flexibility to spend it. That said I understand why folks take issue with it.
So best thing to do is speak with a wallet and make a complaint.
