I’d put better bets on Kai, and maybe Fujin. Jarek and Reiko are some of the most universally hated MK characters. Maybe they’ll show up as Kameo characters, but I doubt they’ll get playable spots.
Kai should definitely have a chance to come back. Granted due to timeline stuff, Im not sure how they’d reintroduce him, but the guy definitely should’ve returned sooner with MKX or 11.
With some characters becoming assists it makes me wonder if people will compare them to assist trophies. Come to think of it, I wondor if that wont stop that character from being playable?
Could’ve sworn I read somewhere Johnny Cage was a kameo fighter, yet somehow hes getting a Bloodsport skin. Wouldn’t make sense to make a highly requested costume just for an assit.
Either it was a misprint on the website page, or maybe all playable characters could be used as assists, ontop of characters who are straight up unplayable otherwise.
Jarek sure, but Reiko? As many forums as I’m on and from what I can gather on Twitter, Reiko is one of the most requested characters in the franchise. Yes, his movie depiction was almost universally reviled, but I think a lot of people loved him in the MKX comic and want him back.
I’m personally hoping Kai makes a return.
Yeah, basically for this reason. Plus I also think he has some compelling movelist potential. Maybe the expand on his MK4 stance and make him this sort of cool, fire wieldin capoeira character. That could be really fun tbh.
Agree 110%. I really hope Boon didn’t tell us that more 3D era characters were returning and even go as far as to point out the MK4 select screen, just to have these characters that people have been clamoring for over 20 years to finally see again be relegated to non-playable assists that drop in with the flick of an analog stick to do some sort of auto-special or auto-combo and then vanish or whatever. That would be exceedingly disappointing.
If that ends up being the case, ontop of MK1’s roster being more or less a rehash of 11’s, that would seal the deal for me personally, dashing all hype by replacing it with utter disappointment.
I mean the fact they have the gall to double down by making Shang Tsung DLC yet again, tying him to a pre order exclusive despite being a central antagonist in the story, to me already sets a red flag for how the roster could end up.
I hope Im wrong with that assessment, but these days Ive noticed, being pessimistic tends to be more realistic, instead of jumping on blind hype.
I still think it’s possible Shang was only featured prominently in that trailer because he was able to be revealed at that time and that he won’t be as prominent in the story as it makes you think.
Maybe, but then again Shao Kahn was in the story mode for MK11, so it wouldn’t be too unrealistic to assume Shang would do the same. Plus his final duel between Lui kang in the last game was very important to simply gloss over.
Idk, the whole “pre order now to play as x” just feels pretty scummy imo. Like, the characters already finished, so why lock them off arbitrarily just for some extra dollars? Games already 70$ just for the base version alone, so it just feels very unnecessary.
(I mean I get why they do it, but after 4 games now, its really annoying at this point.)
Sareena’s another character Id like to see be playable, I’ve always liked her overall design, plus being apart of the Brotherhood of Shadow could give her a unique perspective if they made her a fully developed fighter this time around.
Plus, would’ve really liked to see her interact with Noob considering he was the original SubZero. (Another missed opportunity from MK11, imo)
Yeah, all of this, tbh. To me, she has the most untapped potential of any Mortal Kombat character. That might sound like a bit of an overstatement, but from a story perspective, I find her entertaining because she’s essentially a spy for the good guys, she’s a demon, she has two sisters she’s seemingly close with, a master in Quan Chi and a seemingly complicated relationship that could use more exploring with the original Sub Zero. To me, there are about a million different directions they could go with all of this.
Then you look at her gameplay possibilities. She’s a shadowy assassin, she (again) has two sisters in Kia and Jataaka and she’s also a demon. So right away, just based on these factors, you can have an agile character, a character with two assists (think a modernized version of MKD’s Noob-Smoke) and they could also do some cool stuff with letting her “true” demonic form out.
I know some fans just think she’s pretty or she has a cool design and that’s fine. We all have our preferences. I just think there’s so much all around potential for her, from story to gameplay. It’s honestly kind of wild to me that no one at NRS hasn’t seen what’s possible in the character and attempted to bring that out in playable form.
Maybe its only retro versions for the Kameo Fighters, and it seems they’ll also extend fatalites Im guessing? Seeing how MK2 Kung Lao slicing Scorpion’s legs off might mean slight Fatality variations depending on what Kameo is chosen?
Also I guess the Raiden theory was somewhat accurate regaurding having his lighting powers restored, minus the staff. Although his voice sounds… not what I expected ngl.
