Neat trick. I can wait though.
Already having fun with Shang Tsung.
So much for “this game is a failure and doing poorly because gamers won’t tolerate censored outfits.” I wonder if all those rage baiting you tubers are going to issue retractions now. Probably not.
So solid gameplay won over skimpy outfits? Who knew??
Obviously it was no swimsuits no buy. The internet told me so
I mean, does any stuff like that ever make it far beyond just noise? Sales are largely decided by plain factors like the current strength of the brand, marketing, and word of mouth on quality. As well as other things like release windows and the competition of the time. As long as the core appeal is there, any petty short-lived controversy is going to have negligible impact if any.
I think in general we overestimate the importance of internet “controversies.” I still think the difference between Xbox One and PS4 sales has nothing to do with DRM controversies or even pixels and frame rates. $500 vs $400 is more than enough to explain the entirety of the sales gap.
So I played a bit with Shang Tsung last night and I must say that I love almost everything about him. The voice work is top notch, the moveset, the look… NRS nailed him. My only issue, and this is a me issue and a “it’s only day one” issue, but man I can’t find any good combos with him. I know Stephanie said that Shang’s not really a big combo character, but so far I’ve only been able to find stuff like punch, punch, EX tele-slam, punch, punch and either EX slide or soul steal.
Anyone have anything approaching good tech with him yet? It’s sort of assumed that his EX ground skulls will be great for combos, but so far I’m not finding anything beyond a few simple strings. Also not loving how long it takes for exploding body to work. It just feels like everything is spaced out just a bit too much time-wise to actually put some really fun stuff together. It also seems like the timing on EX tel-slam is needlessly tight.
But yeah, those are all me problems. Once I get better with the character and learn how to start stringing some stuff together, I’m hoping the combos will become a bit more fun and the damage will go up, because holy crap I feel like I can’t do any lol.
Either way, I still think NRS knocked it out of the park with Shang in this game. So much to like here. I just need to get better at finding it all.
Kombat League Mode would be much funner for me if I didn’t ALWAYS get someone spamming the same move over and over. lol With that said, I want those skins so there’s that. Not being a PRO, ( I’m one of those lame CASUALS who play for fun ) sometimes I do get stuck in a position where I basically can’t get the spammer off me. Oh well, I’ll feel better when I get that ELDER GOD rank. lol I think?
So who else is having fun on the Kombat League Mode?
SO how do you get the skins? BY just signing up and playing? Or do you actually have to win or place in a certain range?
As I understand it, achieving certain tiers nets you certain skins/shaders.
Yeah, my understanding is that you are rewarded with skins at the end of the season based on the highest rank you achieved during the season.
How long are the seasons? I was thinking about trying this out even though I’m sure I’ll get bodied constantly lol.
This seems to be pretty much it. The Kompetitive variations have some decent combos, but I haven’t seen any combo videos where he does more than 35 percent damage (usually for both meters) without Fatal Blow. He does have really good zoning tools and I believe that is absolutely how they intend for you to play him.
Corpse Drop is a great move with a great Amplify, overhead low mixup with relative ease.
Ground Eruption is great for midscreen control, shame it doesn’t work in the corner or it would’ve increased his damage significantly.
Soul Steal is subjectively great, you need to know the character you’re playing against but it also gives you their krushing blows and one loaded for back throw once you come out of it.
I like the 2nd variation more, with the meteor blasts and the health recovery skull thing. The soul burst doesn’t seem that great but its early days so there might be something there.
Yeah I have to mess around with corpse drop more. I tend to suck a bit at using the moves that you can place close, mid, far and full screen distances. It’d be nice if one of the kompetitive variations had both corpse drop and Ermac’s teleslam so you could get some damage with two bars, but oh well.
I’ll be curious to see what people find with soul burst in his other variation. I honestly didn’t use that move much, as I was concentrating more on ground skulls or teleslam and EX slide. I also had Rain’s around the world kick in a custom variation and holy crap was I bad at using that move. The window to EX it is slightly small, but it feels like the opponent comes back on the other side so fast I can barely process what to do. Again, another day one(ish) type thing.
Combo guide for ST
So far the competition in the league is really easy…Ive only lost 1 set and that was just barely due to Sonya 50/50 combo getting me. Seriously you can pick SOnya, mix up that combo and just about be any player in 2 matches.
Characters like that annoy me lol…I’d use Sonya if I liked her…but Ijust never gravitated to Sonya.
So far Im 5-1. Not bad…IM sure it gets waaaay harder as you move up in rank.
I’m not exactly a big fan of online in MK11 at the moment. Delayed inputs (even for a second) kinda ruins the whole experience for me.
Learning Kitana, and she’s a lot of fun! I’m having a bit of trouble opening up people, but that’s probably because she’s more of a Space control character. She’s cool though!
Well thats a given with a fan like you!
