Mortal Kombat 11

Yeah I’m definitely psyched for Shang Tsung. Stephanie said he’s not a high combo character, which is a little off-putting, but it just seems as though there’s so much fun to be had from that creative moveset.

Does anyone know if they’ll be doing any balancing at some point? Not that the game is horribly unbalanced, but I’m just curious.

Didn’t think he’d be releasing so soon, I thought we still had a month at least. Hopefully that means the other characters are released within the year as well.

So when I got home from working the nightshift, this morning I actually had a tower in the towers of time for Shang Tsung. I thought this was weird that I unlocked gear for him and he’s not playable until next Tuesday. With that said, I’m wondering if the stuff I unlocked will even show up next week. lol It was kinda cool fighting him in the tower though.

If that happens, I’ll be shocked (no pun intended)!!

Sounds cool, but I’m still not sure how I feel about seeing KI characters in MK fatality scenarios. To me, even though KI is a bit more violent than Street Fighter, it’d be like sticking Cammy or Fei Long in there and watching them get disemboweled or quartered…it just seems wrong. The only KI characters I could give a pass to would be the robots, for obvious reasons.

Someone tagged me in that for some reason. I held off on replying so as not to be a Debbie Downer, but my gut reaction was to say that I’d kindly prefer they keep that ■■■■■■ character Nightwolf as far away from Thunder as they possibly can. Can’t understand at all why I’d ever want to see Nightwolf cosplaying as actually cool Thunder :unamused:

I’m generally against a KI/MK crossover, but I’m sure as heck against them just playing dress-up with lame knockoffs of KI characters (I think they were actually created around the same time, but Nightwolf just screams “knockoff” to me ). And then there’s the fact that Thunder’s redesign actualy comes from somewhere - it’s a real tribe and his story is steeped in the mythos of that culture. Nightwolf is “generic Native American shaman”, and it seems weird to me just co-opt Thunder’s look for that purpose.

That’d be neat.

Phil Spencer! Larry Herb Xbox live! D james, Issac Torres… cool!

Yeah, I feel a KI/MK crossover would either go over as well as MKvDC when they tone down the gore to fit KI, or if they go ahead and go the M-rated route with everyone, and would create such a bloodlust that any KI game after that would suffer if they didn’t make them just as gory as MK, causing KI to lose some of its identity.

TJ, Sadira, and Mira, are prime candidates for skins

My initial reaction was just to be happy at the idea because why take it all so seriously. But as I’ve thought about it, the issue around Thunder’s redesign is going to be a big problem. How does MS deal with taking a design they developed in consultation with a Native American tribe and hand it to NRS to be murdered. I think this might lead to some problems.

It’s a little bit of a shame. Everything has to be so complicated.

I think where to set the gore dial is the least problematic thing about a KI MK crossover. More important would be how would the game play? KI’s combo system is so radically different that it wouldn’t make any sense. I think it’s would be far easier to bring MK characters into KI than KI characters to MK where they don’t get to have combos.

Honestly, that’s what i’d Want from it. KI gameplay with MK gore. Or to just see MK characters amplified to crazy KI levels. Although I’m surprised people are hesitant at the idea of KI having gore considering the reactions to the Ultimates when they came out.

Also. I like Nightwolf. I think he has cool powers and moves and has an interesting design. That being said, I would love it if NRS gave him the Thunder treatment and consulted an actual tribe.

I for one have always been a proponent of keeping the game T-rated. KI has always been more about violence and action and never really has had any gore, with probably at its absolute worst being KI2 Fulgore’s orbital laser melting his opponent into a pile of goo.
I will admit that part of my want for T-rating is more from a parental perspective than anything. KI is such a fun game, as a parent I want to be able to play it whenever I please, even if my 6-year-old is running around in the room, without the blowback of “normal” people being horrified that I let my 1st grader watch characters be drawn, quartered, flayed, or disemboweled over and over. And I know I don’t speak for all gamer parents or even all the KI parents, but that’s where I’m at on the situation.

As far as the Ultimates go, I thought it was a nice nod to long time fans, and as such I didn’t mind, but I could take 'em or leave 'em. Considering Ultimates were initally scrapped before the game started, they honestly should have stayed that way. They really needed to be designed for the game from the ground level, but instead had a lot of weird quirks from being worked into a game that wasn’t built for them, such as having to remove the stage and blood effects in order to use dynamic camera angles.
But the violence/gore level of the Ultimates, I thought was fine.

You’re right on that front.
If it were me, I’d say KI at the base, but try to keep the MK characters playing similar to MK11…KI characters would get standard ADs, and MK characters would get their dial-a-combos…maybe with a little looser restrictions, such as you can hit any button to keep a combo going, but only if it’s not the same button as the previous, and end the combo with a special move before the combo meter fills up or you blow out. KI gets shadow moves, MK gets krushing blows, something like that.

Hmmm could the DLC characters be
Doom Slayer & Fulgore?

I’d pay big money for a Shadow Jago skin for either Scorpion or Noob Saibot.

Honestly I always felt Cinder’s finishers and the Glacius acid puddle finisher from KI1 were more violent then the Fulgore KI2 beam move. Then again KI1 was the most violent game in the series period.

With that said, I felt that KI Reboot’s Ultimates were just budget versions of the finishers in Guilty Gear Xrd: Person does a move, and opponent either falls over or an explosion/white flash obscures the screen, the end. I still feel they could have been framed way better, like how GG uses better camera angles and dramatic shots, but I have seen worse finishers from KI2 and countless MK ripoffs.

Speaking of finishers, MK11 fixed Kabal’s Scary Face Brutality in the last patch. It looks dumb, but it’s not an unfinished mosaic like it was before.

So for those on Xbox who don’t know this trick… Change your country to Alstralia and Shang Tsung is available now. It appears all the gear and skins I got from towers this week show up. Have fun playing Shang Tsung a day early. Yes, I can’t wait another day apparently. lol
