Not sure how to respond to that.
I believe it’s because you’re stating things as facts without including any hard data.
Sure, we can assume the devs are telling us the truth about the player base, but honestly, if your game’s popularity was beginning to wane, would you happily announce it publicly? Probably not. You’d want the existing fan base to think everything is going great so they don’t abandon the game as well. I’d like to think they’re telling us the truth, but without giving us legit numbers, we’re just going on faith that it’s true.
As far as tournament entrants, I don’t know if that’s true or not. I don’t follow tournament play. But again, without including actual data, it’s just conjecture.
If I’m wrong with either of these, please point it out. Maybe this stuff was revealed somewhere previously. I don’t know.
So what you’re saying is you’re accusing people of fraud?
I mean, go ahead I guess.
Here we go. No, what I’m saying is without providing any actual numbers, we have to simply believe that what they’re saying is true. We don’t really know either way if it’s fact or not.
Fair enough, though I’m pretty sure we could get some hard numbers if we asked. We’re still waiting on the final count for Combo Beaker, and didn’t MS make a statement about the number of active players recently (I forget the number)?
I don’t know. They may have. And not to constantly be negative, but would it really be surprising for Microsoft to skew numbers in their favor? Just saying. But again, I have no idea. It’s just a thought. That’s all.
Edit: This might be what you’re talking about. It’s from April of last year after the game released on PC, which would naturally show an improvement in the player base since now you’re getting a whole new demographic (PC players). Whether the player base as a whole has gone down since then, I have no idea.
I mean I really don’t see any reason for the Devs to lie to their fan base especially one that has helped support it for all this time but I guess that reasoning is a bit naive so what can you do. I personally believe this game is constantly growing regardless of the loud few who dislike the game.
I know a subset of Fighting Game fans will always make jokes about the superfluous stories, but taking a look at how much time goes into them nowadays, I doubt there’s no real interest in them. Every Netherrelm game since MK9, all Guilty Gear and Blazblue, Skullgirls, even SFV tried with that story mode. Single player experiences with expansive character lore clearly have an appeal.
Whether we’ve grown tremendously or started to down slope a bit, we need to do our best to keep spreading the word. It’s always doom & gloom when there is no information for KI for a while. The community is fine. It keeps growing. I heard that this year, Combo Breaker has higher participants than last year for KI. I’m sure CEO will be the same. As for streams, we have more streams slowly surfacing, with them being very fun and entertaining. With all the fighting games that are coming out this year, it feels like KI won’t survive against these “AAA” titles. But, I feel like nothing will happen and a massive number will continue to play KI regardless. I heard people say that SFV & MKX were the “KI Killers” and that it was going to completely end the game due to no one playing it. We are still here and growing, because the community refuses to give up, and supports our game to the very end. All we can do is stay positive, and keep doing what we do best.
All this negativity and such isn’t helping any of us, nor does it help the game. Just keep playing, keep spreading the word of this game. Only reason communities die, is because people stop supporting them. Look at Super Smash Bros. Melee. That game is 16 years old already, with a dedicated community willing to back it up to keep playing the game they love.
So the devs could be lying because they don’t want it to look like their game’s not doing well. We have a well known, well respected tourney organizer possibly lying because we don’t have any hard numbers to back up his rather straight forward claim, and we have Microsoft possibly lying because they’re Microsoft.
For the record, I don’t believe you’re accusing anyone of lying. I think you just don’t want to take PR spin at face value and I can certainly respect that.
Still though, I think you might be moving the goal posts a little bit here. Three different sources seem to have indicated at various times or in various ways that the game’s growing. Now, we don’t have to trust any of them, certainly, but do we have any reason to distrust any of them?
Have there been stories published stating that MS likes to cook their books and inflate their numbers? I haven’t seen that, but if you know of this happening, please let me know. Have you heard of Rick putting out info like the Combo Breaker numbers, only to later retract his statement or be proven wrong? By any account I’ve heard, he’s a rather genuine guy.
Also, I might turn the question around on you. Do you have hard numbers indicating that the game is in a fixed pattern of decline? I mean, I’d have to assume that post season 3, the number of players and the amount of sales have steadily declined month over month, but I think that’s bound to happen in the absence of large content drops and big announcements. But beyond that, do you know when sales peaked, started to decline, and why?
I think that’s kinda how this board operates too. When there’s no large content drops coming real soon or big announcements on the near horizon, people kind of fall off a bit. Some come back, some don’t, and some new fans come in, etc. Circle of life .
Agree 100%. Again, I’m not saying you’re accusing anyone of lying. You were simply stating what’s theoretically possible and really, there’s no way for us to know unless people suddenly decide to open their books, which I don’t think is a very realistic expectation or something we should ever be entitled to.
All we can do is either trust them or not trust them. I’ll be really curious to see if there are any KI related announcements at E3. If the game’s fanbase is still growing, I’d tend to think that MS would want to keep that momentum going, right?
EDIT: Mods, if this is too off topic, then just let me know. I’m not trying to pick a fight by any means and I feel like the topic of KI’s viability is intrinsically tied to the viability of the community, but maybe I didn’t tie that in well enough. Either way, if I need to delete anything, no problem. I just thought the discussion was interesting.
Exactly.
I fell the same , cause its really a long silence, that remember me before eyedol launch too, that mean something big is comming soon,
medusa
Eyedol with three heads confirmed?
Just dropping in one last time to say:
Criticism is welcomed as long it’s constructive.
But you don’t start talking S*** unless you’re looking for a fight.
It’s so simple.
Just don’t talk without thinking it through.
I think i was right all the time.
People here acted like i was the villain for tell them the truth.
Nothing better than your words turns into fact.
Bad decisions on season 3 and the horrible battle direction destroyed the game.
Constructive criticism;
-Ms needs to make ki2 with new developers and a new direction. Thats the only way to save this game.
Good start. I don’t agree but good start.
But how should they do that? What would you do to make it better?
That actually makes me feel bad.
I’m sorry. It wasn’t my intention.
I dunno, they are the business mens!
I would like to see air combos and a more fluid gameplay like guilty gear, but with ki core mechanic.
That sounds more like Umvc3?
Idk I haven’t touch GG in years.
Go on though. What else?
Not exactly umvc… Ki combo mechanic must be there.
More fast paced ki, with better animations and air combos.
And without the bs keits did the with chars. Also those MS chars ruined the s3, they are not cool AT ALL. I just want a way to remove Artiber and rash from my game, i cant even look to them.
Every season, ki started more and more generic and uninspired, removed things from your characters, making them completely different… This means one thing: BAD BATTLE DORECTION. No-secure decisions.
People AVOIDED the game, and they and the fans dont accept the mistakes.
