Yeah, I think tis because of Orchids popularity its assumed that we should get another orchid. No offense but shadow type characters don’t add a lot to diversity on the roster.

Don’t really think this adds much to the conversation honestly. It’s also a bit slanderous imo.
It does express that someone like Eyedol can be more unique though.
Raam didn’t fit. Neither did Arbiter. How are they different? You talk about personality and style… Raam doesn’t have either of those. He grabs and stabs you, or combos and stabs you or tries to stab you in neutral all while doing nothing but groaning. Arbiter has a little sophistication in his linguistics but as far as style? Not much. Eyedol has plenty of potential.

Man I keep imagining Eyedol to look like the big bad ■■■ demon on the new DOOM! With a touch of Dark Souls type armor. He could be big, but really fast and technical. Like intelligent, brutal, quick, and balanced. Everything Gargos IS NOT!

Re: those saying that the Eyedol haters should avoid this thread, start their own thread, etc: see the thread title. By all rights, this thread is the Eyedol hate thread.
Way to deny others their wants and desires just because they happen to disagree with yours. Plenty of people hate Eyedol without so much as giving a thought to whether others like the character, let alone having the malice to just assume a contrary position just to ruin your day.

For my part, I don’t think a modernization of Eyedol is impossible, but I think the specific take that Eyedol fanboys are calling for – traditional villain, self-serious big-bad with the mocking quips that go along with that – is sorely undermined by his absurd, chimeric physical features, like the two heads and the hooves. I think you need to either play him for lols; or lean into a kind of eldritch “otherness” angle, kinda like the crones in The Witcher 3, or the Eldrazi brood in MtG, playing up this idea of there being an unnatural corrupting wrongness to Eyedol’s being that threatens to overthrow the minds of all who behold him. If you try to play him straight as an evil overlord kind of character like Gargos, you’re going to get a lot of raised eyebrows from people outside the oldschool KI diehard crowd.
The other alternative is to play him like Gargos, but give up many of Eyedol’s iconic features. But I think the Eyedol diehards have already rioted at the mention of this option. Which isn’t a good sign, considering that there’s a pretty good chance that this is what’s going to happen.

I think its because mechanics wise, theres nothing left of Eyedol that can let himself differentiate with the other characters. What else can they do with Eyedol that they already havent done with Jago, Shado Jago, Omen and Gargos? IIRC, Eyedol was the Taunt-heal punish on 0-frame boss character with OP damage. He was a giant impenetrable healing meatshield. He has a club, but what can he do with that club that Aganos hasn’t already done? Maybe its a normal move, but besides a good MP, what else does he have?
I want to see Eyedol, but theres not enough designspace for him. And even if they tried to fit him in, he’d be so drastically different that he might as well be a new character, or so bland/cloney that he wouldn’t stand out amongst the shadowrealm gang.

And by the way folks, it’s completely and totally unfair to post a thread title “why would you not want Eyedol” and then when people offer their thoughts jump all over trivial bits of their statement.
@ZDhome is pretty much dead right. The original Eyedol was awful. You all claim to want him and get in to say stuff like “of COURSE he will be redesigned” and “it would be SO EASY to update him for this game” and then you will see all the same people complaining furiously when they don’t get Eyedol “right.” See the threads for Gargos, Tusk, Kim-Wu , Thuder… Oh ■■■■ it. See these threads for every single returning character.

You’re right. The reason not to bring him back is because he sucks. Yes, Gargos sucked too. New Gargos is better. Could new Eyedol be better? Maybe - but only if they make him nothing like Eyedol.
The more of these IDENTICAL Eyedol begging threads I see the less I want them to make him. Stop flaming anyone who answers the ■■■■ question which is the title of the thread. Seriously, I’m really starting to hope they bring Eyedol back as this game’s Dan. Make him a two headed gnome with a tiny club and all his moves suck and he just waddles around the screen farting and falling over…

I’m really stoked about the idea of tiny Eyedol. Maybe he’s a giant in his own dimension but he’s a squirt in KI. We have tons of massive characters but no small ones. I’m thinking like Yoda small. Maybe he only hits you in the ankles…
I hope that Eyedol will not appear in Season Three, but would welcome him as Season Four fodder with open arms.
I wish to ride the KI train of epicness as far down the rails as we possibly can.

@BigBadAndy @ZDhome Aren’t you guys being just a little pessimistic here?
Sure, almost every classic character brought back thus far have had controversies over their designs. But most of those debates died down pretty quickly, and the ones that are still around (Cinder and Kim are the ones I see the most) are generally insignificant.
If the devs can completely redesign Gargos and have the community not be in a giant uproar about it, then I’d say please the majority instead of cowering to the few. And if many people who wanted Eyedol aren’t pleased with the way he turns out (like Shadow Jago’s moveset) then we get to laugh in their face.
In other words, there little reason to bring him back IMO, but there’s no reason to not remake him.
He hit them so hard on arcades and SNES that they really dont want to think that he could beat them really hard again. That is all. IMO
I guess it all depends on your perspective. I still see lots of threads and comments from people who have more interest in looking at the game than actually playing it. Gargos has a lot of hate out there. Whether you view it as significant or not is really up to you, but there is lots of volume on the forums devoted to hating redesigned characters. So to act like Eyedol is a no brainer and of course they will redesign him and people will love it I think is both naïve and a little dishonest.
But I guess to me the difference with Eyedol is that we have a group of people asking the devs to make a character they don’t really want to make. So if they are sitting in the office trying to decide I think it makes a difference knowing that these same people probably won’t be happy when they get what they are asking for. That’s different than people not liking Kim Wu’s face.
And yes, it’s pessimistic. But how many Eyedol threads do we need? These are not filled with hundreds of people demanding Eyedol. Just the same dozen or so saying the same thing over and over. It degenerates into “Anyone who doesn’t want Eyedol back is an ■■■■■■■. Why you want to ruin this for us?”
MS currently has a survey out asking what character we would like to see next. If Eyedol is number one (I would be surprised) then I’m sure we will see him eventually. Actually, I’m not convinced he isn’t the unrevealed S3 character. But we will see.
