I can’t speak from season to season, but the similarity in moves across the cast absolutely kills me in some cases (shoulder bash anyone?)! The problem is that there’s only so many ways you can realistically move the human frame.

thunder & glacius & jago have some of the most fluid joint movement animation in the game
Watch how glacius feet are actually animated even when hes down. Air launches etc
orchid as well
watch sadira & spinals hands / fingers in idle or character selecT. Amazing
Then watch tusks retro feet / combo & kanra feet in barefoot they are mire like static boots as feet kan ra barely has toes

IMHO DH did an overall better job, the game was more streamlined, simpler, easier to pick up… IG went too wild with all the stuff they added and removed and then added and removed and changed and added and changed again, etc, etc.
That being said, I think if they’re given a chance to do a sequel, they might do better than both companies combined. They probably learned a lot in the way.
IG may be making a lot of adjustments (which I approve of because it’s given KI such a long, active lifetime) but I think a lot of people who say things like the above forget all the big issues that S1 had; the retros which people don’t like were DH-created, we had super broken unbreakable combos (Sadira’s loop) and some really OP mechanics (like Jago’s manual stuff) and other things. You also only had 8 characters (since Shadow Jago was a skin), meaning it’s a LOT easier to balance everything out in less patches.
If you preferred DH’s way of doing things it’s fine, I just think it’s unfair to not address the issues DH’s version of KI had to go with it as well!

Sure, DH’s version had its issues as well, like some people above say… but they were literally racing against time. I would’ve loved to see how their vision of the game would’ve ended up.
I think we’re all curious how DH would’ve made S2 and how (if, really) the game would evolve further beyond that.
I just dislike it when people automatically believe they could’ve done a better job because they had a solid base with 8 characters and very few modes.

Hmm, as someone who has come into all this quite late (as of just after the PC release) I’d like to see KI carry on for a while yet. Whether that should be an actual season 4 with new characters, or bug fixes, stages, extra content and game modes, I’m not sure.
I think we’re in quite a good zone with characters, with each of the cast feeling fresh and different compared to one another, and not much rehashing of ideas.
Too many new characters may cause the team to eventually run out of ideas and dilute the diverse character pool to the point where we end up either with some characters being far too similar, or we could at the point that the cast is too large to balance effectively and that could potentially become a major issue.
I mean DH and IG have done an amazing job so far, I just worry about them spreading things too thin and instead losing something in the process, rather than striking a balance that works.

That’s at least partly true. Although DH put out a few videos talking about their philosophy in making the game and I really found their thoughts about designing the game to mirror my own. There was an idea to keep it simple and accessible and a genuine affection for the source material. Either it was a great group of guys with a fantastic vision for the game or a terrific video editor. I actually bought Strider just because DH made it despite having no interest in that series (pretty good game, for what it’s worth).
I was blown away by KI season 1 - it played just like I always wish the original games had played. But I don’t think we do any favors by kidding ourselves either. The game was rushed and the two S1 post release characters were delayed. Yes, there were many technical issues and bugs. I also think people are blind to the fact that DH put out Spinal and Fulgore who are two of the most complex, trait heavy characters in the game. A DH season 2 wasn’t going to be 8 more Orchid/Sabrewulf/Thunder style characters. And remember MS has a team involved in this process - so I have a feeling there is more continuity there than people give them credit for. It could well be that a DH S2 would have had Aganos, Kan Ra, dagger juggling Maya and burnout Cinder.

Have you seen riptor and hisako? They to have those little nuances. Fulgore doesn’t really. If you watch riptor I love her claw tapping independently.
You say that kan ras feet don’t really move but what about his bandages? Each character has their own wee things.

Something tells me that Cinder and Maya wouldn’t have been as complex if DH had made them. But hey, no point in discussing it really, we’ll never know.

I think the balance changes throughout the seasons would have been the same.
True. Most of S1’s character’s are easy to pick up and learn.
DH was not aggressively bought out by Amazon, they left because the money and logistics w ere better. This IS the future of ki DH set.

personally I like how Cinder turned out. Is his game play complex? well yeah obviously but for those who like to practice and do fun set ups and juggles I think it’s great. Really adds a ton of fun to the game.
Besdies wulf and riptor already cover the quick and easy rushdown market.
As far as season4 goes I would like another season to be honest, but I hope this will actually be the season that gives us Ultimates finally, especially after three long years of waiting. I had my hopes brought up to fast and the result being that season3 may of had it’s moments but is porbably my least hyped eason because ultimates weren’t a thing.
I want something to look forward to come season4.
