Why are people so sensitive about Ultras?

First things first - this is really cool. Like, really really cool, no sarcasm.

…you have no way of knowing their feelings on the matter… why make assumptions?
Couple things I should clear up. Perhaps my choice of phrasing is muddying my meaning with unintended connotation, coupled with a healthy dose of flusterdom. Replace all use of the word “disrespectful” with “discourteous”.

I am not saying that Multi is inherently malicious. There are plenty of innocent and fun reasons to Multi a person, sure.

Making assumptions is not inherently bad, either. The “xss of you and me” proverb is fun, but unsound. It is safe to assume that two players meet with the mutual intention of playing the game together. It is safe to assume that both of you enjoy playing the game. It is safe to assume that both of are playing the game because you enjoy spending your time playing the game.

It is courteous to assume that another person, a stranger, values their time. There are time-efficient ways to go about ending a match once the win condition met. There are time-consuming ways to go about ending a match. It seems very plain, I can’t explain it better that.

And really, let’s all be honest with ourselves- have you ever triple ultra’d a random for mutual benefit, in the spirit of camaraderie?

EDIT: OMFGWTF @DEClimax I spend too much time trying to phrase it all juuuuust right, and you ninja in 1min before me with nail-bat concision. You made me the triple-ultra-guy.

I remember when SF and MK tried 3d versions, and they were both nasty. I am happy that they both went back to the 2d versions of their games.

If i remember right, I also think the sales on those sucked as well.

I don’t know if this means anything in terms of sales, but I had hardly ever heard of the SF EX series, and I’ve been keen on keeping up to date on most Street Fighter games.
I don’t know if the same can be said exactly for the MK series. Deadly Alliance, Decepticon, and Armageddeon all did at least decently as far as I know…if the did badly they certainly didn’t kill the series. Hell, MKvDC didn’t even kill the franchise off.

Basically, you shouldn’t try to control something you cannot control. It will drive you nuts. Which boils down to, people are unpredictable. I’m not going to be a submissive person and stop enjoying all aspects of the game for a little bit of someones time. Whether you can tolerate that is solely upon you. I don’t expect someone to just ultra ender their victory, so I won’t let someone expect me to do the same. I’m not going to determine what their actions should be, that is not up to me. So logically, you can’t do that either, mostly because I don’t have to meet your expectations. If that is a selfish way of thinking, so be it. My goal when I turn on KI is to entertain myself that’s it. If I want to ultra a few times, I will. I’m not going to worry about the crappy messages I get for doing it. If I had fun, I have no regrets. Simple as that. As I said, the people who don’t want their time wasted can always Alt F4 or quit out. The load times in this game are much longer than the time of any Ultra. I did the math on that one. You lose 30 times more of your personal time to bootup, loading and match searching than you do for any Ultra even triple anyone can do.

This is precisely why it is discourteous, despite the “no-penalty opt out” mentioned by @WrathOfFulgore.

That’s all I’m saying.

The point of this whole thread was to antagonize those who are invested in gaming for a bit more than narrow self-gratification, I’ve just been trying to get someone from that camp to acknowledge it.
It might be one of the most successful troll topics to have spawned here. It is interesting that it stemmed from a poster whom frequently requests threads get closed, and it has survived beyond 200 posts. The folks here at UCForums are grade AAA turd polishers.

I do believe the phrase goes:
“Gr8 b8 m8, I r8 8/8, no h8” or something like that.
Indeed, like I said before, if you’re really concerned with any part of KI wasting your time, play KI on a mid to high end PC…load times are virtually non-existent, unless you play cross-play with a XB1 player.

People that support 3x ultras and wasting stranger’s times are a scar on the community, and a scar on sportsmanship as a whole. @MDMMORNING, you are absolutely correct in your assessment. Some people are just immature. Some people always will be. I like PLAYING the game with my opponent and so I end matches where I win quickly, so that I can move on to the next match.

Often times, the 3x ultra opponent is the one that has lost 5 or more straight matches against me, I slack off in the 6th round and they win and then 3x ultra…Followed by them leaving the lobby. Sometimes they’ll toggle their cursor over ‘rematch’, ‘character select’ or ‘leave’ as a way to try and further aggetate before they leave like cowards. These are the exact people that are defending 3x ultras here at the forums. Don’t expect much out of them.

Actually I, being one of the ones defending full ultras here, tend to end my Ultras pretty quickly, like 98% of the time…not because I really want to mind you…it’s because of the stigma that players such as yourself tend to perpetuate that players that want to enjoy the full extent of their victory lap, so to speak, are just arrogant jerks that are wasting your oh so much more precious time.

That’s the thing though - it’s not that the time of one is more precious than another, but that time is valuable.

It is one thing to spend time playing a game with a stranger. It is another to spend a stranger’s time.

Quick question. For all those who don’t like wasting other people’s time, what about just a single full ultra? I think the best solution is to just let the opponent have an option to leave the match once the ultra is initiated.

Speaking generally: people love to flash and show their deftness with the moves they’d practiced hours to perfect. I don’t care for all that extra, but I do like to see how far they can go during the sequence. Other people though, they waste money by breaking controllers and systems because of that rage out issue. Such a shame. I’d say avoid games with a high degree of competitiveness and work yourself back into them slowly if you have that tendency, find your trigger points. Get a stress squeeze toy and have that near you, I dunno You spend your hard earned money to buy a system and content for a game you KNOW is going to frustrate you, only to destroy it when the inevitable happens.
That’s already in the game.

Personally I think limiting Ultras to 1 in Ranked and let full triples be either free game or a toggle elsewhere would fix the issue the best, short of the amazing suggestion that was made earlier of queuing up your next match while the Ultra is going on option, but my guess is that would take a ton of reworking the game at the core level…perhaps something to think about for a sequel?

I don’t have an issue with letting a single Ultra rock. Of course I would prefer an opponent end it early, considering the option is available, so that we can get on to our next match(es), but a single Ultra isn’t necessarily an eye-roller to me. Some seem sort of long, but it is what it is.

I haven’t played thru the Dojo lessons after the obligatory run thru - does the Dojo cover Ultra Enders, Ultra extensions, and whathaveyou? I don’t recall it covering anything other than the Ultra itself. If that is the case, both cancelling early and extending are both extraneity. This would suggest that the implied “reward” is a full, singular Ultra, and any more or less is a matter of user preference.

My point revolves around the nature of that user preference. Does your preference consider your opponent an equal or an entertainment medium? Is the Multi having fun together, or at one another’s expense? Is it kind, or unkind? Is it sporting, or unsportsmanlike?

I always let the first two hits of Omen’s ultra come out (the f.HP) before cancelling it. I think of it as the Supahman Dance.

^^These are primo #1 A+ suggestions. The latter would be the ideal solution, but the former seems more realistic. I commend you, and whomever thought of the other one.

It isn’t in the game. You have to use an external method. The only thing is the game doesn’t punish it at that point. It think that you should be able to press pause at that point and go to the main menu. Would be fair.

Right, that’s what I meant…sorry.

I dont have that tendency and ill never have it.

I’ve acknowledged it before, but the fact of the matter is that both sides are the same boat. One wants the other to not Ultra, and the other wants to Ultra. It’s selfish to want anyone to do something you want them to simply because you do. The question I have is why all of a sudden in S3 has it exploded this large for people to be salty about Ultra’s? Did it stem from the tourney scene to casuals? Or has everyone just let it be a ticking time bomb? That I don’t know.

A little over the top to claim that just because we preform an Ultra or 2 that we are a scar on the community don’t you think? I have an average win rate of about 80% that being the training period I had for the first few months when I hadn’t played FG’s online before. I don’t lose that often unless I get matched against top tier Killer players. Am I still a scar on the community? By that assessment KI4Life is a scar on the community. TexAce is a scar on the community. Flash is a scar on the community. There are plenty of others too that are on the tourney scene. I respect people’s opinion that they don’t like Ultra’s but I don’t lump them into a derogatory group. Their ability to have that opinion is the same as my ability to have the opposite opinion, that doesn’t make me bad, that just ends up being your opinion which I don’t agree with the use of because it directly targets people rather than having a reasonable argument behind it.

There should be an option to LEAVE a lobby once someone starts an ultra, other than quitting the application. What’s funny is, these 3x ultra people aren’t fond of that idea, because the only reason they do the 3x ultra in the first place is to hold hostage the opponent (and this os definitely the cas if you are playing against a random). To waste their time. Lol. And for no other reason. Immature, bad sports. They can make up all of the excuses for doing their 3x ultras all they want, but the fact that they are against somebody that would like to find a more mature opponent and getting more play time rather than watching a minute of 3x ultras exposes them for their real motivations. Lol. And Ranked should of have 1x ultras max.

*When did I ever say that my argument depends on the skill of the player? If they are a scar on the community, then they are a scar on the community. I would especially claim a more recognized player that participates in this sort of immature behavior that you are so fond of a scar on the community. They promote this toxic garbage. So, the answer that I have for you is yes. If that is your practice, then you are a scar on the community. A scar on sport in general.

*I must say again that most of the players that perform 3x ultras aren’t very good. Real competitive players like to get off by beating you when you’re actually fighting against them. Not beating up on a rag doll. There are high-level players that have beat me 10 times straight, sometimes 20 times straight. And, it’s never a problem because they can go right into the next match after they do their ultra ender. That’s a real competitive player. And after I finally get a win, I’ll end my ultra quick too. And go right back to getting my ■■■ handed to me.
