Why are people so sensitive about Ultras?

That is another assumption. It has nothing to do with the mentality of my opponent or anything to do with them if I do an Ultra. Some people that are against them always seem to just assume. If someone quits on me if I start an Ultra, who cares. I’m not worried whether or not they stay. I still got to play a match. I completely accept that if I lose, my opponent can do whatever they wish as far as style goes. So I believe that I should have the same privileges. It has nothing to do with disrespect, or holding someone hostage. I’ve had more people complain about my vortexy playstyle than any Ultra I’ve done. Ranked I can see a limit but, at the same time there are Qualifier, Bronze, Silver, and Gold ranked players. So reasonably, the only time I could see limiting Ultra’s would be best 2-3 matches. But even then, in tourney play players taunt, or full ultra to send a mental message. Whether or not you believe in that is up to you, but I’ve seen it have an effect. So regardless of opinions on the matter, whether I like them or not, tourney play isn’t a format I’ve played but I’ve seen it used as a tactic for victory. I’ve seen force picking what side you sit on as a tactic. Whether or not you feel it a waste of time, in ranked the goal is still to win. If doing an Ultra on an opponent gives you an upper hand, I say more power to you. I wouldn’t force a tactic out of someones hands just because I didn’t like it. I would learn to not be effected by it and still play my best regardless of what tactics my opponent might come up with.

1:45 is my example of this. If I can do an Ultra on someone and have this effect, that’s a tip of the match in my favor. They are not clear and focused anymore.

I’m glad that sportsmanship in general disagrees with your silly proposal that the winner of competition can “do whatever they want as far as style goes”. Do you think that it’s just a coincidence that every professional sport in the world has some standard by which taunting is penalized? I can’t even believe I’m having this conversation. I already knew this going into this conversation. People like you are going to cling to this idea that you’re doing it for style or you’re doing it because your opponent likes to watch etc. It’s all nonsense. I’m talking to a wall here. Hopefully this message will get to other people. I’m not so much concerned about convincing you of anything.

If you’re talking Football or Baseball, those are sports, this is a video game. I don’t think there has ever been any form of in game taunting that has been penalized. If I won the match, got up and shoved the middle finger in your face and called you something, yeah I would get reprimanded for that. But taunting in a match? There are compilations of taunts all over youtube from tourney play… So I don’t know where you’re getting that argument from.

Funny thing is, what does your example of doing it in a tournament have anything to do with the a-hole that 3x ultras in ranked or in exhibition and then leaves a lobby after going 1 and 10 against me? What kind of leg up are they getting on me in this scenario? There is no advantage. It’s just to be a prick. It’s to be a prick when you win, or when you finally win. I guarantee you that if you were able to somehow analyze those that do these long ultras, versus those that end ultras you’ll find that the former are much more successful people in real life (on avg and looking at annual salaries, educational degrees, skills etc). It’s a maturity thing. Personal growth. Quiet confidence.

If you don’t think that video games are a sport, then… ‘Sport’ is synonymous with competition in many ways. Anything that is competitive can be a sport. And most CERTAINLY, anything competitive that draws an audience to watch is a sport. The highs and lows experienced in winning and losing in a physical sport are the same as the highs and lows experienced in any competitive environment. Whether that be business, stocks, politics, poker, gambling… Do you really not know this?

I have never said I want no Ultras

I said I don’t want the AI doing full ultras because they literally have no reason to and I don’t want triple/Longer Double Ultras because they waste a long amount of time an Ultra Finisher or a single/short double would finish easily. When you force me to sit there for a solid minute or two, yeah I don’t like it; especially if you sit there and do it literally every match. If it’s short, sweet, and enjoyable, I really couldn’t care less.

Lobby and exhibition are casual modes, you have to expect that type of stuff there. I didn’t say video games weren’t a spectator sport, but the sports that don’t condone taunting or showboating are not the same. They are only the physical sports, football, baseball, but you’re too set in your arguments to see any other side, so whether or not you think it immature to do an ultra or something, I have proven a case for it to be viable in tourney, and in casual play, I’m sorry but having any expectations there in this internet day and age, I beg to differ that I may be immature or lacking in personal growth.

@Supermariofan20 I completely understand that, but the AI doing Ultra’s is more or less part of allowing the cpu decision making based on inputs in the game. That is something that hasn’t changed since the days of old. That one is hard to really fight against for me, yeah the CPU might double ultra but to me I just laugh at it because somehow the AI pulled it off when they rarely if ever do normally. Most of the time it’s just an ultra and it’s over.

Keeping an ultra short and sweet makes sense only in ranked to me, if you’re choosing to be a competitive player, but it is still an online community. There isn’t a single game out there that isn’t going to have some sort of people trying to cheat, some sort of people taunting or t-bagging repeatedly and regardless of any fighting game, there is always going to be someone doing fatalities, ultra combos or whatever finishers are in the game. I love doing ultra’s, I don’t do them every single time, but I stick to SL MP Exhibition and lobbies for the most part. If people leave after I do one, so be it. I can always search another match.

Whether or not people take what I said out of context, it’s an example of things that can and do happen online regardless of the game, not a comparison. There is more to that one sentence than just the specific line about people trying to cheat, there were 3 examples in total, and trying to control any one of them, only one of them can have actual consequences towards the player doing said things, and that is cheating. I’ve seen plenty of videos on Max’s channel of lag switchers in just about every game he has played, same goes for taunting/t-bagging(who knows if it’s just because they know they make it onto his channel) and people who ultra.

I would reread the entire sentence, because in no place it says, cheating or this and that are in defense of my doing an ultra.

You know what? Forget it. Any value in this thread was gone 251 posts ago.

This happened only a few posts ago, so there is still some value to glean from it:

Upon winning a boxing match, does the winner drag the loser through a choreographed dance routine?

Upon winning a chess match, does the victor put the loser through an elaborate secret handshake, complete with jazz-hands and shotgun-fistbumps?

Upon scoring a basket, does the b-baller put on a Globetrotter’s routine?

Upon winning a tennis match, does the winner put on a juggling show using their and their opponents rackets?

Upon winning a hand of poker, does the victor take that moment to display for all his neato shuffling trick?

If these comparisons were to take place at the local YMCA or poker hall, would that make them innocent and excusable in the name of good fun?

It is really quite simple - there is good sportsmanship, and there is unsportsmanlike conduct. The argument that a stranger would seek to oppress you by not wanting to have their time wasted for your amusement is shameful, to put it nicely.

But seriously, this thread is bouncing foreheads off of bricks, without all the fun of cranial hemorrhaging.

To be fair, it really isn’t. If they put in a button that let’s you exit to menu then I will agree.

This is just salt. I had a match against an eyedol while I was playing Kan Ra, and after he beat me (big hero) he did a full triple ultra for 150 + hits with juggle at the end and the whole 9 yards. It’s annoying, and that’s why people do it. But that’s life. People are wasting their time arguing about this.

Long ultras are disrescpectful vs Long Ultras are OK
CBs are OK vs CBs are not ok
S4 supporters vs New KI sequel supporters
Kim face is Ok vs Kim Face is not OK
Tier list discussions

Just some random topics where people can’t never get to an agreement.

IMO, depending of which Ultra version I eat when I lose, this is what I think about my opponent:
-Ultra into ender: Cares about time, polite, wants to actually play(I’m on this group!). Nice guy, probably would invite him to exibition if the match was interesting
-Full ultra: Likes Ultras, he likes to take his time betweem fights, maybe for watching his mobile or drinking. OK
-Full ultra in ranked: If there are more sets left, he may be using it as a way to slow the pace. If it’s the last fight, he may be enjoying his victory. Ok, mostly
-More than 1 ultra: He doesn’t care about my time, only his. Bad winer. Bad sportsmanship. Not OK.
-More than 1 ultra in ranked: The previous, but worse. Likes trolling. Hard to see in high level matches.

This applies only to strangers, not friends.

A friend can double ultra me without problem most of the time. They know that I don’t care. For that reason, no friend of mine commits a full ultra against me

Hello everyone,

is really funny to see how you all try to convince each other that what you beleive about one ultra, 3xUltra or whatever is correct or true. Dont forget guys and dont make the mistake to believe that what YOU believe is true nor correct. It applies to everyone.

Once said this I wanna bring my two cents here.

  • IMO no one like to be hit 100+ times when the match is done. I dont like it to be honest but I can handle it. I understand the other player can do it and has the right to do it, not cuz is his/her winning lap, but cuz It is a PART of the game. I dont care the reason why they are doing it It is just a fact that is part of the game and can be used, wheter we like it or not, period.
  • People are talking about wasting time… well I do agree that time is valuable. In fact I hate when people plays with my time or makes me lose it /waste it however when I ve never thought about 1 ± minute is really a game changer regarding KI. If you are so desperate to play another match maybe KI aint the right game for you and thats all besides it seems to me that all people complaining about this, have wasted way more time doing other s.t.u.p.i.d. s.h.i.t. so dont really understand why so annoyed about it. We waste time at a queue line at the mall, at the cinema, at some other stuff but is part of the experience, so in this case is part of KI the 3xUltra ( I dont do them really often, or to be mean, just some times I feel doing it and that was all) so come on, is it this one minute going to change the outcome of my evening having fun with a game I love playing?? is it really going to make a difference to play 50 sets instead of 60? I do have a busy life: job, girlfriend, friends and all that stuff thas most of us have so when I play, I play for QUALITY instead of QUANTITY otherwise I wouldnt enjoy the game, I would be always playing against the clock and wouldnt have fun.

In something related I guess this time wasting thing also has to do with gamers calling themselves pros and casuals. My opinion here is that we are all casuals, except the ones earning money from it. SO to be good in this game and do flashy combos, which is the staple of KI, doesnt make one pro. So unless you earn money in regular basis by playing Videogames just enjoy the ride, you dont have to train to win EVO or CEO, so you dont need to play as much sets as you can (thats why I mentioned this) and even so. It is a game and its very purpose is to be enjoyed
