Why are people so sensitive about Ultras?

This thread reminds of the DE topic where people got “shafted” for not getting the gold gargos skin.

…let’s not go there again…

Never said I want to. But it feels like we are…

People forget that we’re on Ultra-combo.com sometimes.

its the soul of KI. I’ve been begging for ultimates and some other finishers for aeons and all that its left are ultra combo. I’ll make like this never happened at all. Without ultras, KI would be something like Street Fighter. There would be no reason to be KI without ultras. Dont listen those complains about finishers, These sound like trolls to me. Ultra Combo are KI’s last name and the name of this respective forum.

I personally don’t let it bug me honestly. And to be honest I think Ultras get boring after awhile, same hits without any dynamic sense of satisfaction but at the end of it all: Ultras aren’t so bad to get hit with. I just turn away and do something while I wait. I can understand why some people hate it, because they lost and they just wanna move to the next match which is a valid reason.

Personally I just end the Ultra’s immdiately so it saves time and we can both move on to the next fight.

@CrimsonScorch88 I agree that Ultras are awesome but I still prefer Ultimates as they may just be much more fun, when you truely ended your opponent. Even so Ultras are just as important to have as Ultimates are.

True. True.

love this idea

That would certainly stop a lot of the whole “ultras are wasting my time” argument if their next match was queuing up while they sat back and watched a triple Ultra. I really don’t see that as being doable though.

thats all I use it for, payback. and only if I get T-bagged.

that’s how I deal with t-baggers/

Those people are likely already salty about the loss and they feel it’s like a double humiliation on top of the loss. I LOVE it!

This would be the perfect solution, the only problem would be the “best 2 of 3” but it would be an improvement, 1 triple ultra is better than 2.
@KnowledgeVIG in my case i just hate to loose my beloved time, im at school 10 hours every day and i dont have too much time to play KI (i also have another hobbies).

Because it’s not 1994 anymore.

I thought the soul of KI were the unique opener/linker combo system, combo breakers (Combo breakers are way more soul to KI than Ultras), and the unique cast of cheesy monster/ action movie characters

To me the soul of KI is the constant interactive nature of the game, even when you’re being hit. Ultras exist very much in opposition to that.

Performing an extended juggle/combo sequence when the match is already over is very much a single player experience, often with an unwilling spectator. I can’t argue that they AREN’T an implied “reward” for victory, they certainly are. But when you play a fighting game with an opponent, you are playing a game together - this is the premise of the agreement between opponents. 3xUltra’s violate that togetherness for a moment of braggadocio, while simultaneously delaying your opponents ability to move on and continue playing the game. To insist on breaking out the 3xUltra is proposing that your (play)time is more important than your opponents. For all the argument that 3xUltra exists, and therefore should be repped, I think folks are overlooking the Ultra Ender, and that it ALSO exists.

If one’s reward is to wile-out single-player, perhaps they should be playing a single-player game mode.

I see it sort of opposite. I would rather extend the courtesy of valued time to a stranger, and show off my sick non-gameplay combo’s to my friends whom I know will appreciate them. Elsewise, I’m asserting my enjoyment over anothers, and devaluing the time they chose to spend playing a game with me. Reserving courtesies for those we know is a disservice to the very concept of “community,”. And for what? Can anyone convincingly deny that the consistent performance of multi-Ultra on randoms is for anything other than inflating one’s ego? Does nobody understand the problem of egocentricity?

For the record - I play offline. I am not salty about some dude online breaking out a multi on me. It just blows my mind that so many have a pro-Multi-vs-randoms perspective, and can’t seem to fathom that it IS disrespectful. Not because you won so you earned it, but because a stranger agreed to play a game with you. To artificially inflate that expenditure of their time watching you play alone without their consent (and often, without even impressing them) is rude. You wouldn’t have played at all without “them” (in the macro sense), and so wasting their time is certainly not your reward. If you’re just here to watch yourself input mechanical sequences, there is a Lab and VS AI you could be playing, to whom time truly is meaningless.

If they’re a teabagger, or other sort of asshat, this logic does not apply. I’m strictly talking about non-provocational randoms.

I wish I hadn’t read this. This assertion is beyond absurd. Without Ultras, KI would still be very much different from SF.

Also, Cody’s Ultra Combo 2 is better than any Ultra that exists in KI. Interestingly, it has nothing to do with why I play Cody, or why I play KI.

No, the soul of KI is a combination of spectacle & technique. Go back sometime & listen to Ken Lobb talk about the experiences making the game, his main focus when he does is usually on 2 things, the combo system, and hearing the phrase “Ultraaaaa Combooooo!!!” being heard all the way across the arcade, and how it was drawing people’s attention to the game.

Really?! You cant be serious on this one. Its just a boring combo compared to KI ultras. What is wrong with this world to someone telling a poor combo like Cody ultra 2 being better than any true ultra combo from KI?Besides it was KILLER INSTINCT the inventor of ultra finishers. Street Fighter just has copied the name and idea. This comparison is a shame in KI history.

Cody kicks dirt in their face before wrecking it with a pipe wrench, while utilizing assets specifically animated for his U2. KI characters flail about with sped-up pre-existing animations that I already saw several times in the match that preceded the Ultra (with the exception of the Ultra Ender, and some mid-Ultra taunts).

The only comparitive shame in KI’s history is KI’s history.

Now you went really too far in that statement.

I like the ultras, i like the music on them and how some movements are applied. Think a bit on how hard was to design all that even using only movements that the char uses in the match, all the movements in the backstage etc. What i don’t like is to see people abusing them with triple, quad, specials spams… that sucks.
