A “remix” character is still within the spectrum of what a clone character is. No matter what you call it, it is still a character who takes on stuff from another character instead of being its own unique creation.
When you see the Money Faerie again, can you send her my way?
In return, the next time I come across the Djinn’s Lamp of Reasonable Expectations, I’ll make sure to shell out the extra dough for over-night airmail.
Spectrums are steep slippery slope that lead to absurd places
Fulgores a jago clone and Orchids a Sadira clone and Chun Li is a Ryu clone… on spectrum~
I’d say Kilgore is our first (playable) clone, the others were drastically different in comparison to base character. (Well not counting s1 costume Shago)
No, Shadow Jago is also a clone character. A very obvious one even.
I’ve already stated numerous times what I define as a clone character, and that’s what I am sticking with. When something more logical turns up, I’ll change my views, but it hasn’t yet.
Pretty weird thing to say imo. Kilgore seems, to me, like a much more different character compared fulgore than shago is compared to jago.
I think it’s annoying to even have to discuss this but incubus has made clear that he doesn’t care what others will think when he says “clone,” so that’s where we are.
When someone makes a more logic point than the one I am following now, then I will. Again, so far there hasn’t been one. You sure didn’t provide anything useful last time we discussed this.
This thread started by posing the question “Why are people hating on Shorchid?” and has devolved into “What does Incubus think about and define as a ‘clone’” - because people mentioning or discussing the details surrounding the recycling of animations in fighting games prompts you to type the same ■■■■■■■ two, maybe three, sentences over and over and over and over again.
We are all very much aware of what you consider a “clone” and how you feel about “clones”. If you are so hip to redundantly and petulantly preventing conversations from following natural courses and growing out of their infantile argumentative phases, particularly wherein clones and animation recycling is involved, might I suggest the Test Your Might forums?
I’m not the one preventing the discussion to lead anywhere. On the contrary, other people are trying to argue with me and try telling me that I should NOT use certain terms for certain characters, even when I have made a logical explanation to why I do so. They can disagree, sure, but that doesn’t change anything. Only thing it does is exactly what you are accusing me of doing.
I have answered on why I dislike the idea of Shadow Orchid, and then others tried to tell me I was wrong in thinking so. Apparently that means I need to repeat myself time and time again, because those people don’t seem to understand my reasoning. That’s not my fault.
However, if you wish to be so childish and point fingers at me for having an opinion you and others disagree with, then might I suggest you go back to elementary school? Because such mentality belongs there.
I dunno, I wasn’t trying to bait you into more redundant explanations when I quoted you a few posts up, I was trying to have a slightly more fun conversation than “clones: good or bad?” - but I foolishly quoted you, so you decided that we needed another reminder of your opinion of clones. You could have just not said anything?
It’s not pointing fingers at your opinion, fella, so much as your Stewart method of presenting it. You just whip that bad boy out at any ol’ bus stop, don’tcha?
Have you? All I’ve heard is “I’m going to say this, and I don’t care that it will cause misunderstandings.” This is reminding me of when people were trying to explain why guest characters may be necessary for the game, but you refused to actually acknowledge their point.
No no! I fully understand why developers put in guest characters in their games. I know why that happens! It’s to try and expand the fan-/playerbase, to lure in the fans of those characters, to make them interested in the game.
“Look here, all you Halo fans! We put a Halo character in our game: Arbiter! You like him, right? See! Now you can play him in our game! Come play our game! Buy our game! It has Halo in it now, and you like that, so you should spend your money on us!”
That’s what it is. And I fully acknowledge the process and reasoning for doing something like this. I understand why they do this.
That doesn’t mean I have to like it. It doesn’t mean I need to accept it.
Same with clone characters. I understand why clone characters happens. It is easier and less costly to copy/paste character models and do some tweaking to them to make them appear a bit different. It is easier to copy/paste character animations and tweak them as well. It is easier to copy/paste moves and tweak them to do something else. They have already done most of the work already, so to copy/paste these things and mix them up a bit to make a “new” character… it’s just easier and doesn’t cost as much as starting all over on a whole new model with a whole different look with a whole new animations set with a whole new moveset…
I get it!
But again, I do not like it. Why? Because I like originality, I like uniquity, I like NEW things, not semi-new things, not copied things, not palette-swapped things, not cloned things, not remixed things, or whatever you wish to call it.
But don’t get me wrong! I KNOW why they make clone characters. I KNOW why they make guest characters. And I acknowledge why they make these things!
THAT DOESN’T CHANGE WHAT THEY ARE!
A clone character is still a clone character, no matter what you may call it. You can call it a different name, you can disagree with me calling it such or even thinking it is such, you can like those characters, you can accept them, you can do whatever the f#ck you want… I will NEVER tell you what to think and what to like, and what NOT to think and what NOT to like. I will never tell you what terms to use, I will never tell you that you are wrong in using them, and I will never tell you to change your opinion.
However… I WILL explain myself when people ask me about my opinion and I WILL defend myself when people tell me I am wrong. And I will reserve the right to change my opinion, should someone present to me a good enough reason to do so.
And THAT you have not. When you do, then I will listen, I will read your post and I will respect your arguements. Until then, feel free to move along instead of trying to point fingers at me, just because you don’t agree with me.
All this said, I have absolutely nothing against you or anyone else on this forum. We’re all part of this community and we all add our own feedback, opinions and arguements to the many topics and discussions on here. We are all fans of Killer Instinct. And it is completely alright not to see eye to eye with others in the community about some things, but when all is said and done, we all just want to enjoy this game.
I have acknowledged that the game has guest characters and clone characters, and I have accepted that I can’t do anything about it. But I CAN provide my feedback to the developers and the community, telling them about my displeasement about their inclusion and that I would rather want new content. And that is okay! Because that’s what this forum is for!
I feel like I should preface this by telling you that your above post is appreciable and you are absolutely correct. I just wanted to pull out the snippet that I think is indicative of the misunderstanding and at the heart of this whole ordeal that I have regrettably exacerbated. Sorry, homie. I had misunderstood where you were coming from.
This is the thing - “accepting it” is actually sort of binary in this case. You HAVE accepted it, and I know you have accepted it because you are still here, passionate as most, discussing and suggesting and arguing for what you believe is the good of the game. If you hadn’t accepted it, you would have ceased to support it, you would stop indulging in it, and likely would have moved on from it (and really, relative to this specific topic, most of the genre). If you stuck around the forums after having decided that you do not accept this practice, it would have been to troll or doomsay (to discuss at length why x is bad for the game) - on the contrary, about the strongest stance you have taken in this discussion is “I don’t like clones but I understand them”. That tells me that you HAVE accepted it.
The misunderstanding, I think, is in some of your phrasing implying or outright saying “I do not accept this” and people equating that to all sorts of stuff that you’re not actually saying… Am I in the ballpark?
I can see your point, but I don’t fully agree with it.
When I say I don’t accept it, I mean that I don’t want to see any more of it and that I would rather the game was without any of it at all.
But just because I don’t enjoy that part of the game doesn’t mean I don’t like anything in the game at all! I still play and enjoy most parts of the game, and I try and avoid the parts I don’t like.
To come with an allegory… I have a sister and I love her. But she dates a guy who I don’t like for some reasons, however, my sister loves him and continues to date him. I don’t accept him though, because of reasons. But that does mean I will completely cut my sister out of my life! I still love her and want to spend time with her, I just don’t want him to be there. I acknowledge that she loves him and doesn’t want to split off with him, but I’m not going to pretend that I like him or spend time with him. And I’m not going to tell other people or my sister to NOT accept him or NOT like him just because I don’t, but likewise, I don’t want them to tell me that I HAVE to accept and like him.
So I guess if I have accepted anything, it is that it is not up to me if the clone/guest characters are in the game. But again, I will tell my opinion about the matter and then just not interact with it.
People keep saying that we don’t even know if she’ll be “Shadow Orchid” at all and to calm down.
However the entire point of that part of the survey was asking what themes we wanted for the remixed characters, Shark TJ, Human Cinder, Ent Aganos, Shadow Orchid. They didn’t say alternate Orchid, or remixed Orchid. They asked about the theme, Shadow Orchid. Its just wishful thinking to assume that they didn’t mean “Shadow” Orchid when they said Shadow Orchid.
Ahh, that actually makes more sense. Thanks. ^^
English is not my first language and sometimes the meaning of certain words escape me, which seems to be the case with this one. I did not see the word “accept” to be so ultimative, that by not accepting one thing about something it means that you had to completely cut it out of your life. That just sounds incredibly petty, really… So I can see why that would cause misunderstandings, because that’s not the case in this situation. ^^
