Ultimates are coming!

Yes.In MKvsDCU:

  • There are charred bodies.

  • There are skeletons.

  • There are impalements.

  • There are gunshots (granted the headshots get censored).

  • There are broken necks.

  • There are characters getting smashed with objects falling on them.

  • There are characters blowing up.

  • There are heads getting squished.

  • There are characters getting frozen and shattered.

  • There are characters getting dropped from great heights.

  • There are spine breaks.

  • Missile strikes.

So far, KI’s ultimates have:

  • sword/knife attacks (already in normal combat)

  • fireballs (already in normal combat)

  • punches (already in normal combat)

  • slams and stomps (already in normal combat)

See the difference?

I’m not arguing. I’m discussing. But you’re trying to make points without including all the facts.

Making a point whilst including ALL the facts would be a novel on a forum post. At least as far as THIS topic goes, and Andy is known to be pretty thoughtful in any discussions he enters into.

Yeah but most of those are SEVERELY toned down in terms of actual gore factor. You say someone’s head gets squished, but it looks borderline comical. Broken necks? The loser turns and looks to the side. Dropped from great heights? Okay, they just land on the ground, but up in the air. It looks silly. Characters blow up, but they disappear, leaving a bloodless skeleton behind. None of this looks violent to me except for maybe the knife / fan throws and the bicycle kick to the loser on the ground.

Sorry, I’m looking at the same stuff you are, and I just don’t see it he way you do. Like I said, if MKvsDC’s fatalities are a 6 / 10 on the violence scale, KI’s not far behind. They’re about a 5. If you want to say they’re a 4 or a 3 or even less, feel free, but I don’t see it that way, and this is coming from a lifelong MK fan, so I’m not trying to show some sort of KI bias here.

I just don’t see Jago’s huge fireball as being something that’s ā€œalready in normal combatā€ and I don’t see a huge difference between Kilgore on the ground, on fire and any of the fatalities that involved a character in MKvsDC ending a fatality on fire. There’s none at all in my mind.

Really, the differences on a vast majority of these are mild, at best.

you also haven’t seen the other 10 finishers in KI yet either. : p like KI’s oldschool finishers and even MK’s fatalities we’ll see a mix of good and bad regaurdless.

So was Shado Jago’s and Thunders, though , I think Riptors would get an off screen kill even though ti would show her doing the kill.

There is one big difference between the MKvDC fatalities & KI Ultimates that I don’t think anyone has addressed: Ultimates flow better. They’re a natural extension of the match. The action and flow doesn’t exactly stop so that the Ultimate can start, it just flows right into it.

The MKvDC fatalities, everything stops while the game says ā€œHey, look at this thing! Ow! Wasn’t that brutal?!?ā€

So there is a difference in focus with the different finishers.

All-in-all it’s a matter of comparing apples to oranges under the basis that they’re both fruit.

But apple and oranges are perfectly comparable Kappa. I seriously don’t understand the comparison between fatalities and ultimates. Ultimates aren’t gory brutal deaths. They are just a way to kill the opponent. It can be brutal but it doesn’t have to.

I would like to submit exhibit A:

In particular I would like to point out the effects of the first finisher on Glacius and Sabrefulf, as well as point out the vast improvement of the ā€œelectrocutionā€ finisher in the current KI by showing his old version.

I’m sorry, but those are NOT better than ultimates. There’s nothing even remotely cinematic about them!

That game was pathetic though. Go look for MK9 or MKX instead for some real gore. This is KI, take it or leave it.

Fact: developers want this level of violence
Fact: they could go a bit further with gory content without loosing T rating
Fact: they don’t want to do that, otherwise it would be done

A) My opinion (which some may share): the game looks great this way, and I don’t want more gory content
B) Other people opinion: they prefer more gory content

Conclusion: make peace with facts and accept being A) if you aren’t already, because B) people will never get what they want.

This game aims for a lot of people, not just a concrete group with concrete preferences

Sometimes you just deal with it

And I’m fine with that

Edit: substitute "gore"for ā€œmore violentā€ or ā€œmore explicitā€ if you prefer. The point remains

Did you even read any of the other posts in this thread? Nobody is looking for gore in the ultimates. MKvsDCU was used as an example of how to make a finisher brutal without being over-the-top and gory.

No gore in KI please.

You’re being ridiculous… Ptsd? Stop. Please

As a friendly reminder, if KI was more gory, I would never have gotten involved with the game, and I doubt I’m the only one.

You might not be affected by gore (and want more of it), and that’s fine, but KI is not that game, and it is a make-or-break factor for lots of people.

Same. Gore is one reason why I don’t play MKX and I’m a big fan of mortal kombat.

I think he’s asking for more creativity…not necessarily gore

I didn’t read the whole thread, but I saw several messages that were like ā€œif only they showed more bone breaking, or didn’t cut away from the gruesome parts, it’d be better.ā€ It’s fine to criticize lack of creativity, but it seems they were directly talking about the violence level.

Obviously nobody reads thoroughly. And you’re correct. I want the ultimates to be more creative and brutal, not gory.
