Making a point whilst including ALL the facts would be a novel on a forum post. At least as far as THIS topic goes, and Andy is known to be pretty thoughtful in any discussions he enters into.
Yeah but most of those are SEVERELY toned down in terms of actual gore factor. You say someoneās head gets squished, but it looks borderline comical. Broken necks? The loser turns and looks to the side. Dropped from great heights? Okay, they just land on the ground, but up in the air. It looks silly. Characters blow up, but they disappear, leaving a bloodless skeleton behind. None of this looks violent to me except for maybe the knife / fan throws and the bicycle kick to the loser on the ground.
Sorry, Iām looking at the same stuff you are, and I just donāt see it he way you do. Like I said, if MKvsDCās fatalities are a 6 / 10 on the violence scale, KIās not far behind. Theyāre about a 5. If you want to say theyāre a 4 or a 3 or even less, feel free, but I donāt see it that way, and this is coming from a lifelong MK fan, so Iām not trying to show some sort of KI bias here.
I just donāt see Jagoās huge fireball as being something thatās āalready in normal combatā and I donāt see a huge difference between Kilgore on the ground, on fire and any of the fatalities that involved a character in MKvsDC ending a fatality on fire. Thereās none at all in my mind.
Really, the differences on a vast majority of these are mild, at best.
you also havenāt seen the other 10 finishers in KI yet either. : p like KIās oldschool finishers and even MKās fatalities weāll see a mix of good and bad regaurdless.
There is one big difference between the MKvDC fatalities & KI Ultimates that I donāt think anyone has addressed: Ultimates flow better. Theyāre a natural extension of the match. The action and flow doesnāt exactly stop so that the Ultimate can start, it just flows right into it.
The MKvDC fatalities, everything stops while the game says āHey, look at this thing! Ow! Wasnāt that brutal?!?ā
So there is a difference in focus with the different finishers.
All-in-all itās a matter of comparing apples to oranges under the basis that theyāre both fruit.
But apple and oranges are perfectly comparable Kappa. I seriously donāt understand the comparison between fatalities and ultimates. Ultimates arenāt gory brutal deaths. They are just a way to kill the opponent. It can be brutal but it doesnāt have to.
In particular I would like to point out the effects of the first finisher on Glacius and Sabrefulf, as well as point out the vast improvement of the āelectrocutionā finisher in the current KI by showing his old version.
Fact: developers want this level of violence
Fact: they could go a bit further with gory content without loosing T rating
Fact: they donāt want to do that, otherwise it would be done
A) My opinion (which some may share): the game looks great this way, and I donāt want more gory content
B) Other people opinion: they prefer more gory content
Conclusion: make peace with facts and accept being A) if you arenāt already, because B) people will never get what they want.
This game aims for a lot of people, not just a concrete group with concrete preferences
Sometimes you just deal with it
And Iām fine with that
Edit: substitute "gore"for āmore violentā or āmore explicitā if you prefer. The point remains
Did you even read any of the other posts in this thread? Nobody is looking for gore in the ultimates. MKvsDCU was used as an example of how to make a finisher brutal without being over-the-top and gory.
As a friendly reminder, if KI was more gory, I would never have gotten involved with the game, and I doubt Iām the only one.
You might not be affected by gore (and want more of it), and thatās fine, but KI is not that game, and it is a make-or-break factor for lots of people.
I didnāt read the whole thread, but I saw several messages that were like āif only they showed more bone breaking, or didnāt cut away from the gruesome parts, itād be better.ā Itās fine to criticize lack of creativity, but it seems they were directly talking about the violence level.
