Tusk's stage

what he is supposed to be, a barbarian

Barbarian is a very broad term. Vikings were considered barbarians. The Huns were considered barbarians. There were barbaric tribes in the Highlands.

Barbarian isn’t a specific group of people. They were called barbarians, because they were considered uncivilized and wild. And such people existed all over the world.

ok you just got me more curious about this with your definition, so i went and looked it up and i couldnt find any reference that says that Vikings or Nordic tribes were considered barbarians, Barbarian - Wikipedia

all i want is my Conaaan! hahaha

When the Christians came to Scandinavia on a mission to convert the Vikings, they considered them barbaric and uncivilized heathens.

It might not say so on the wikipedia page there, but that’s how it was.

As did the Romans when they went to Germania, Gaul and Britannia. And most were of a somewhat Celtic root.

Stage looks great no doubt about it. I’m more worried about his moveset being faithful to KI2 cuz I played that game alot when I was younger. Does he still have boot kick, skull splitter, and and his sword uppercut? (BTW, that uppercut had crazy range and the light version was safe on block).

They gave his boot kick animation to Jago as wind kick.
As a guess, I’m thinking they want him to feel heavy and might not give him moves that send him shooting across the screen.

Holy balls that’s a lot of detail

Look at these comments…now how can you say that stages don’t matter for the characters!!!

That stage is beautiful. Icy white, and full of detail. There’s a few wide shots in the teaser and i was just admiring the scenery. Tusk looks good from what i can see. I have yet to be disappointed with any of the updates to the KI cast, and Maya/Orchid in particular look vastly better than their old arcade originals, so i’m not at all concerned about Tusk’s look. Really glad that Tusk got his stage as well. Roll on the first of March! Speaking of… Hoping that someone breaks embargo. I wonder if Kotaku are going to the media event, they often dont seem to care about leaking stuff, as evidenced by them having details on the recent Assassin’s Creed games months before they even get announced.

What if during an ultra combo something pops out of the ice or meteors rain down in the backround as a tribute to tusks old ultimate/ no mercy.

I hope dawn boreal.

In fact, the term “barbarian” simply meant “babbler” back in the day, without negative connotations about violence, althought it was derogative. It simply stated the language of foreigners was impossible to decipher.

Cool, didn’t know that part, actually.
But it doesn’t change that the term Barbarian was also used as I stated.

I also think it’s important to not that “Barbarian” is generic. It’s not like there was a tribe of Barbarians living in barbarian style homes and eating barbarian cuisine and celebrating barbarian religious traditions. It’s a generic term.

But if you look at Tusk, he’s a barbarian because he is a knockoff of Conan. Well, Conan is a type of Barbarian that never existed in the real world. He’s a fantasy creation. So if you want to look to the real world and find a close approximation you are going to be looking in Northern Europe somewhere - just to find a culture that favored longswords and two handed swords. Scandinavia, Denmark, Germany or possibly Scotland, pretty much because of the shared heritage and the movement and assimilation of Vikings. Looks like they opted for Scandanavia, but we will have to see what the story is. Maybe Tusk is from Florida and he’s just passing through the stage lol.

I guess they could have gone full in fantasy for a jungle tusk, but this would require an explanation of how or why there is a gigantic Caucasian dude living in the jungle. They could have made a more Celtic Druid Tusk, to fit his Stonehenge connection. But this seems like a very reasonable decision to me that lets Tusk keep his major distinguishing characteristics and still be a fresh take.

First, Denmark is part of Scandinavia. As a Dane, I feel like I need to point that out, since you mentioned Denmark seperately.

And second, this has always been the estimation of where I’ve thought Tusk comes from, since his bio says he is:

“A barbarian killing machine from the cold wastelands to the north”

So it always made sense to me that he was either from the Highlands or Scandinavia, so either of Celtic or Viking descent. And with his KI2 stage being a Stonehenge arena, it just fit.

Awesome explanation, btw. ^^

I’m telling you, Tusk is a modern day Heavy Metal vocalist for Amon Amarth and is searching for lyrical ideas for the next album. Boy…is his next album going to be awesome!!

Couldn’t he at least come from a good band?

;3

There is no better Viking band! I mean I could say he is from Morbid Angel or Death, or Black Sabbath…but it wouldn’t coincide with being a North-man!

What band would you like him to be from ? Sheeple? LOL

I was just kidding, Amon Amarth is a good band.
