Tusk's face

Well honestly I don’t see much of a difference. No I don’t think that’s too much and I think you misunderstood b/c that was never my point. It still comes across a being upset because the devs visions fall outside the binaries of your expectations, but I digress. What exactly makes Tusk Tusk? What are the defining features that specifically identifies this character to be Tusk? What are the characteristics that should’ve been preserved that weren’t? Kim was easy, just a red head asian female. Yeah you say he’s not bad, but then you say to IG that “Tusk can still be saved.” So if he’s “not bad,” as you say, then why does he need saving, and if not that, then what does he need saving from? Just picking your brain.

Don’t forget non-elderly, on top of red headed Asian female.
But thank you. That’s exactly my point. It should have been easy to remake Tusk for the same reason. Non-elderly, tall blonde muscular barbarian with a big sword.

So tell me, how do you suppose excited Kim Wu fans would have reacted if she had been revealed with a wrinkled, 58 year old face?
Because I imagine they would have reacted much the same way I’m reacting…

He’s SUPAH KAWAII DESU! <3
PLEASE NOTICE ME, TUSK-SENPAI!

Well I must thank you because you lead me to my next point. It is possible that there’s a story driven reason behing him looking older and not just what the devs perceived Tusk to be. They’ve aged all the charcaters and it seems Tusk is no different. To answer your question, I can only speak for myself. If Kim was 70 I’d at least keep an open mind and trust that there’s a good reason behind it. Some things will preserved and some won’t, but that goes along with the meaning of being different. Funny thing though is that of the things you mentioned, they preserved two out of three so I’m guessing it’s strictly an age thing that’s getting you. Like I said though, perhaps there’s a story driven reason for it, so I’d keep an open mind. Again if he’s “not bad” then why does he need saving and from what?

I wouldn’t mind wise and older kim wu. Heck I’ve been waiting for street fighter to age ryu for years, old man bison and old akuma are the only characters they’ve done it with and those looks were awesome.

This has been explained ad nauseam. I suppose I could simplify it:

He’s “not bad” because whoever this stranger character is, he looks good as a grizzled old war-weary Viking.
He needs saving because Tusk’s youth was an iconic trait for the character.
He needs saving from not being Tusk.
Everything about the character was perfect…
But the face ruins it.

This was not one of those “Well you’re just impossible to please!” things. I’m very easy to please. I’ve never seriously complained about any of the other characters.
There were a multitude of directions they could have gone with his face that I was prepared for and would have loved. I was completely blindsided by his face being elderly and somewhat ugly. To me, those things are the antithesis of Tusk.

@Archon879

I just hope his Retro keeps it similar to what he was in KI2, but IG never really made a true retro costume so I have a feeling he won’t be clean shaven with war paint and will be just like this one but only with his clothing from KI2.

Cinder is a true retro.

Ok I can understand that, but the fact is, every character in the game has aged by some degree some a little some a lot. However but I have to disagree with you about youth being iconic for his character, especially with him being in his 30s. Even in KI2 one of his endings made a point of the fact that he’s getting older.

Skin pigmentation aside, I don’t see him having a nordic phenotype. His eyes look east asian, and his nose looks aquiline or as some would say “roman nose”.

I think if they alter his nose, his eyes, and possibly his brow ridge he would look a hell of alot better, or at least nordic. Something must be done about that chatterbox as well, it’s unsightly to see. To be honest I think it might not even be the teeth, it might be him lacking an upper lip. I know nordics have thin upperlips but this guy’s upper lip reminds me of firemarshal bill from in living color.

Lol@’ 70 year old Kim Wu ’

That’s being said, KIM OUTRO looks absolutely STUNNING.

THEY GOT HER face muscles right and her expression with one cocked brow is miles better than the grimace of 2nd edit and the blank nod of the reveal trailer.

The stream of her facing arbiter proves she is NOT to be f with.

goooooooo Animators I’m happy.

Good luck with tusk lol

I agree! I was never worried about Kim Wu’s face. I’m loving what has been done with her.
But with Tusk, the lack of polish we see on his face isn’t the problem. To me, the big problem is his age. I just don’t like it.

If they change his face texture to be more youthful in his retro (something I don’t think they’ve ever done with a human character), then I can embrace this as Tusk.

I agree, his nose is too prominent and his eyes do look slanted. To me though it’s also his facial expressions. They look a bit goofy, especially in his outright, I’d post a pic but I don’t know how.

agree with this. Original Tusk seemed to be an furious man, a warrior of flame, and new one is… a washed man, tired by this condition. Meh.

Good point! I might have seen this subconsciously. Definitely part of why I don’t see Tusk in the new character. Old Tusk was energetic and passionate. New Tusk looks worn and haggard. Even his voice sounds tired!
Listen to that outro. He just kind of mumbles: “Death comes to all. Deep sigh, Except me…”

Oh and Kan Ra. And Spinal. And Fulgore. And Aria. And Aganos. And Hisako. Possibly Cinder. Possibly Glacius… Geez, does death come for anybody in this game?!

After three seasons it’s very clear that old Rareware designers and musicians were more talented than the people at IG and DH. There isn’t more than that tbh.

How is it possible that 20 year old 2d sprites have more personality and weight to their moves, faces and voices than 2013 characters? Because the artists who created the old ones were the best of the business back in the day, and they would still be today if they were still in the business.

Old Tusk’s fight stance, moves, voice and music are superior to the new ones, saving the technological gap. You could say old Tusk is better than new one “pound for pound”.

You can say the same for Jago’s voice, TJ’s looks, Tusk’s moves…

DH did their best, as IG is doing. If I hadn’t played the classics, I wouldn’t know.

But the way Rareware worked their magic back in the day… it’s gone. That’s why they were the best in the industry.

I really like the new Tusk, but let’s stop comparing him to the old one.

I would have LOVED to see Tusk look like this!!!
Don’t care for him bearing his teeth all the time but that’s minor.

If the end product looks like this, I will write up a formal apology for my lack of faith to IG on this forum.

I really think he just needs more time in the studio for them to iron out the kinks. Kim was the same way at first but they prettied her up good. I think Tusk will be alright  Face looks amazing in the pic btw. @Filemoncio I agree.

yea kim wu and tusk face need to redesing or redone or something else
