Your dad did nothing wrong. ![]()
Well, crap. I had run into a few snags to where I couldn’t scheduling my licensing test for any other time this week but tomorrow at noon, and I still have a couple more shifts of the security job to finish this week, one of which was the midnight to 8 shift tonight/tomorrow morning…I just got a hold of my security boss to see if someone else could cover my shift tonight, but she seemed pretty disgusted…not so much about me taking off so much as Wednesday is the “end of the week” for the security scheduling, so just about everyone’s already pulled all the shifts they can for the week…crap.
I don’t know, she’s usually good about working with me, and I usually have been good about bending over backwards to accommodate whatever screwball stuff everyone else has needed to do…so hopefully she’ll come through for me.
Edit: she did. My shifts covered.
I swear, she’s the best boss I’ve ever had.
Oh no I ain’t saying that I had the worst homecoming experience ever, still doesn’t mean that it was pleasant either. If you don’t mind I would like to hear your horrible homecoming tale.
Same here, I’ve never been able to “woo” anyone. I only had the chance of a date through a friend. Hell the last time I dated was in 8th grade (girls are mean) and I’m almost finishing high school. Confidence has a real big factor about it but whatever, life moves on.
Worst part is I have to raise $50 dollars to fix my IPad for school. I guess that means I won’t be able to buy that Fulgore T-shirt i had my eye on ![]()
If it’s the eighty-sixed Fulgore shirt I highly recommend it when you can eventually get it. It is quite comfortable.
Life does go on. That’s actually the first step to gaining more confidence or whatever the issue is. You seem to have unwittingly figured it out! I will say, tho, you don’t have to be confident per se, but rather, be BRAVE first.
It’s hard to get rejected by someone you like. The fear is there and you don’t want to experience it. But I always feel much more relieved getting rejected than never asking and not knowing. But as you say, life moves on. There will be others. Shoot, even my grandma used to tell me “girls are like buses, there’s a new one every 15 mins.” ![]()
I’m 33, haven’t had a long term gf in 4 years, but not for lack of trying. It’s discouraging at times, yeah, but after a while it just becomes like anything a reasonable person learns to accept. I just treat it like my current venture applying for a promotion/lateral move closer to home - get used to the rejection or even me doing the rejecting and just keep doing what I do til something works out.
Today’s dating scene sucks, compared to just as recently as 7-10 years ago before social media took over, online dating became a thing, the mindset of not “settling” increased, and ppl seem to be less concerned w/ starting families, having an S/O, etc. There are more single and child-less 30somethings than ever and I think I hear/read more 20somethings whine and complain about dating or how insecure they are, etc than when I was in my early 20s. Not sure if that’s the times changing, what I notice changing, or just more accessibility to others’ thoughts due to the internet.
Some of this is the changing society and some of it is just your age bracket. Women in their 30s are thinking about families. The rest is just stuff people used to keep to themselves and now they splash all over social media.
Alright. At the moment, I have 4 A’s this cycle. 4 out of 8 isn’t that bad. The rest are B’s. I might be able to get 5 A’s if I get a 100 on my Chemistry homework. That will put my grade to an 89.5 which rounds up to a 90! I need to try harder next cycle ![]()
Well, that was part of my point is that they AREN’T. Or at least not all of them.
We literally have the highest % of single and child-less 30somethings than ever in recorded American history (and I presume other Western countries) dating back to the 50s. Plenty of 30somethings AREN’T looking for families, or at least realized it’s ok to take their time w/ it and didn’t rush to have a family at 20 like it was for previous generations.
To compound on the difficulty, the pickins are much slimmer in the 30s for obvious reasons – attrition. You’d think that’d make the 30somethings be less picky, but that’s not the case. At least not where I live, in a fairly large city where 30somethings embrace the single life due to enjoying playing the field looking for the right one, focusing on work, lack of money, not being pressured to “grow up”, etc
And that brings up another variable – location. I know in my old home town of 50k it’d actually – ironically – be EASIER to find another 30something girl looking to settle down, simply due to the small town mindset and lifestyle. In the bigger cities, it seems ppl – girls and guys – are down to date a lot, but long term commitment isn’t something taken lightly.
This is mostly anecdotal, sure, but I feel is still accurate based on experiences, observations, other ppl’s stories, articles and forums I’ve read, etc.
That is why the 30somethings are still single. They are to picky. It goes for both sides, male and female. Most of them think they are a 10 “when they really are a 6 at most” and want to only date someone that is really attractive “someone that is out of their league” I blame TV. It is always showing a program where some average looking person can’t find anyone, but are only looking at the super hot model types.
I am sure everyone here knows someone who would rather be treated like crap by a attractive person than be cared about by a average looking person.
If someone name WrathofFULGORE recommends a Fulgore shirt…you know I’m gonna work extra jobs to get that dough for it.
I honestly wish I had a t-shirt of the design in my avatar…it was my first Fulgore shirt and still my favorite…it was available through a catalog that came with a Nintendo Power subscription. I found one earlier this year, though it’s too small for me to wear, so I had it framed. ![]()
Still wish I had one I could wear though.
I had a crush on this girl. She always wanted to hang out with me. I thought she liked me. I liked her. She gave me attention.
This was high school time. Hormones and teenage emotions and what not. I felt wanted. She was nice. My friend at the time complained cause i always hung out with her. I asked her to the homecoming dance. She declined, said she was heading out of town.
I chose not to go. Why go? The girl i wanted couldn’t go. Come find out the girl went with her friends. She said “oh you’re cool and all but i just wanted to do something else”. Like a teenager with confusion, i took it well (HAHAHA that means i didn’t take it well at all)
After that, she acted like nothing happened and my dumb self didn’t check her on it. Come to find out the week of homecoming i asked her to to out but she said no. My BEST FRIEND AT THE TIME knew i had feelings but ended up going out with her.
I Went into depression. Self identity issues. I felt bad about my personality because i drove her away. Started getting shallow to other women for a bit.
It was a good 6 months i had to recover but Then i grew up ![]()
trust me friend. Whatever things you are going through now will pass. Homecoming is a time for fun and youth. Enjoy it.
Huh…maybe teenagers should take this advice more. I’ve never been one to really enjoy things (you can credit that to low self esteem and social awkwardness). Hell even my parents call me an old man. I’ve never been much of a partier (most of the dances are just grindfest anyways) but reading your story and that short reflection, maybe I should take that more seriously. Just go with the flow you know
. Why not, might as well go to the next dance, maybe actually try to enjoy myself.
YOU CAN’T ESCAPE! YOU’RE IN FOR A WORLD OF HURT!
Love that guy
Going through college, having a hard time dealing with physics, the plug and chug ruined everything.
This just about perfectly describes my Jr and Sr years in high school. Hormones going out of control and a fairly long string of painful rejections…I still can’t think about that time period for long without it making me feel like garbage.
@TheSkullAddict Pick Rick in KI would be extremely awesome…
Yep. Haha but you’re more on the older side than me. It worked out for you.
So i guess i have hope? Lol
Yup…I’m the living embodiment of the teen loser’s hope. I hold in my hands the gold from the end of the rainbow and it is GLORIOUS!!!
