I just picked up Tekken Tag Tournament 2, since someone here put it on my radar in another post a few days ago.
And whoa, havent picked up a 3d fighter since tekken 2 I think…it just feels completely different from anything I am now used to such as SF4 and KI.
Any pointers? Because at the moment I’m just button mashing. And soooo many characters too choose from, kind of lost…some I remember from Tekken 2, but most just look the same, lol. Glad KI has such diversity.
Had some fun with the arcade battle mode just now though, so not a waste of money.
Just remembered that I played a lot od DoA4 on 360, so that was my last 3D fighter, it seemed ‘easier’ to pick up though…
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my Xbone, played Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mortal Kombat X on it along with many other games. But lately there hasn’t been released any good games on it (imo). I bought a PS4 for Street Fighter V and Guilty Gear Xrd, and now Tekken 7 as well.
but I’m talking about xbox1, not 360.
360 was the de facto console for big name fighters in the us at least. I remember even daigo used to play on 360 online, on sf4.
fast foward and now you have a console that has to rely on backwards compatibilty to get ‘‘new’’ games.
and just to let you know, sticks dont even work on backcomp ttitles, so what’s the point? unless they fixed that problem of course.
me saying how things are is not trolling anybody, you may wanna re-read my posts.
Sticks do work on backwards compat just not on skillgirls for some reason.
Second this gen has only seen SFV not come to xbox the only other current gen game that came out was MKX and we got that so what are you even saying?
I highly doubt Tekken 7 will even be exclusive at this point as they will lose money on that too seeing how SF is way more popular than Tekken and that did horrible.
So out of the two current gen game releases SFV and MKX we only got one congratulations.
I missed all of season1 KI but I did acquire an xboxone when Maya came out as I was waiting for Kim Wu (hint)
But I did pick up a lot during the time with Xbox
Just got my PS4 Xmas in anticipation of SFV & GG so I was happy to add injustice ultimate and Skullgirls to SFV & plan to add GGrevelator, FF & maybe tekken 7 but that tron bonne girl scares me
I will probably get creamed for this, but I always enjoyed the DoA fighting engine more than Tekken.
I am pretty rubbish at Tekken but I would focus on finding quick openers that lead to juggles. Tekken is unique in that they will list out 10 hit combos, but you can actually get blocked in the middle. So unless you want to impress somebody. Those aren’t the best use of your time.
Defense is really character specific and the huge roster makes learning the match ups a real challenge - at least for me.
This counts for me too. I would get DoA 5 too if It had an affordable version with everything. All those costumes cost a fortune, and I’m a bit ocd about getting everything in a game. Got the combopack for Ki season one and it annoyed me for a long time (till games with gold gave the Ultra free).
Anyways, thanks for the tips, it will probably be my casual fighter on the side, but any advice is welcome
Now I need to figure out if the Skullgirls encore game (backward compatible) is worth the 9.95, any advice?
Value is a tricky proposition. I don’t know how much disposable money you have lying around, how much time you have to play games etc.
Having said that, Skullgirls is a very good game - well worth $10 and it plays great on X1. You can’t use a fightstick with it unless you use a cheat device, which is a bit of a pain. If you are OCD about colors and characters they will hit you up for quite a bit more money for four (or five?) new characters at $5 a pop and some special colors you have to pay for. But the game is wonderfully animated and occupied a sort of unique place in fighting game history.
I think the possibiliy of Tekken 7 on xbox one are very slim now. Because AKUMA has been added as a guest. It seems SF characters are now exclusive to sony and Sony will probably no allow Microsoft to get Tekken 7.
They could add a KI character or someone from a other fighting game or leave him out all together. Soul Caliber had console exclusive guest characters once if I recall correctly.
Tekken 7 was stated to have “PS4 exclusive content” if this is for PC or both PC or Xbox One no one knows. It hasn’t been decided yet since they released a survey not too long ago asking if people wanted it for xbox one and other stuff. We will see.
Like in the soul calibur 2 days ? That will be great but times have changed. Bandai namco will definetly follow capcom to SONY side. and a KI character is not possible at all. if you ask me
Thanks Andy, might try it out then and add the other characters if I like it. I have some money lying around, just didnt want to waste it. One question more though, how many characters are in the encore edition and what modes do you have?
I’m not at home right now, but I will try to check later. It’s plenty. The game can be played with single characters (like KI) or with teams of two or three lik the MvC games. There’s a story mode as well as at least a few more.
Okay @Draigh, Skullgirls has three single player modes: arcade, story and vs. CPU. Several multiplayer modes including tournament mode, local play and quick match (ranked) as well as unranked room option. There are some decent tutorials in training mode as well. So plenty to do.
Slightly off topic comment from me, but the team behind DOA mentioned that their core is based on Virtua Fighter. But, unlike both KI and VF, DoA has too many clone characters imho. This can make matches repetitive despite deep gameplay and strategy options available (you hardly need to apply different strategies, even though you can in theory)…
