Souls Series Action RPG thread!

Thanks dude! Yeah its a damn challenging game for sure…way harder than Dark Souls IMO. It reminds me of something like Alien, or Event Horizon as far as the setting and the dark suspense of being in a factory with the light flickering and robots/zombies hiding around corners and such. I just snagged the IRONMAUS armor, which is a steel armor suit based off a Comic book Mouse hero int he games lore. Its a secret armor set. Its really good but looks silly.

I too only have so much time to play games so I have to choose wisely and maximize my time. Unfortunately there are so many game i either haven’t been able to finish or haven’t even started. I wish I could do better at sticking with 1 game until I finish it…but if I get in a rut or bored I tend to move on to something more exciting and then try to come back with a refreshed outlook on the game.
Well I’ve got the 4 Lord Souls in Dark Souls, so before I go down to defeat Gwyn I’m gonna go for the Artorias of the Abyss DLC stuff. I hear it’s difficult but very good!
IM not gonna lie dude…I coudn’t beat Black Kalimeet and Manus in the DS1 DLC. I beat Artorias but the other 2 were so hard I got into a rut with them and had to move on to DS3. I came back a month or so later and almost beat Manus but he was just too tough…I even spent a day finding and level in up the special cross bow with lightening arrows that you find int eh Archives…I cant remember the name of it… it works well on Manus (as long as you dont get hit)
Good luck!

THe DLC also has PVP areana…but unfortunatley no one plays it. I could never find a match :frowning:

I also have a confession. I never beat The Nameless King or Soul of Cinder in Dark Souls 3. I never got around to finishing the game because I was so determined to try and kill The King. I feel the need to rectify this once I beat DS1

LOL! Man they are both tough…took me prob 15 or so tries for Cinder and about 10 on King…but I ended up having to use help on the King. Once I get stuck for a week and cant progress I need to move forward other wise Ill end up moving to a different game.

Unfortunately DS1 you cant find any help do to inactivity with the PVP. I had to SOLO that entire game except for Manus and Kalimeet. Hell there isnt even a PVE summon for those guys ( Sif doesnt really count fro Manus IMO)

There is nothing wrong with using a summon IMO… thats what its there for.

Now that Ive moved froward on the Surge is much more enjoyable. I was able to pick up 2 more Drones. One is like Arias jet drone that flies across the screen and smashes your opponent, and the other spray an exhaust coolant like Killgore that slows your enemies stamina and energy.

Now the fun begins!

So that game Ashen looks really cool. It had an interesting take on co-op, and the world looks really cool!

No Bloodborne 2…whaaahhh whahh waaaaahhhhhhhhhh :frowning:

@FallofSeraphs76 @TempusChaoti I’m looking forward to finishing DS1 and starting Bloodborne! Any non-spoilery tips for a new hunter?
Edit: Adding @xSkeletalx to the list because I remember you on a lot of Souls threads

Oh hell yeah! Start out using the Saw Cleaver… new players should use the Axe IMO but you arent a new player. BE prepared to take damage and use your weapon to gain energy back just like in KI with Potential damage.
You are gonna love it…but being you beat DS3 and DS1 you will do fine…not much I can really advise you but to enjoy it and find every item and every quest…GET THE DLC!!!

Well, never actually got around to finishing 3 proper (gonna fix that soon though), but I definitely agree I can afford to mess around with some more high end stuff.

I must ask. How are the big weapons in Bloodborne? I’ve heard it tends to favor fast weapons but I do love thumping people with huge weapons

The best weapon is the huge great-sword …its a long sword that transforms into a great sword within its sheath! the sheath is just brutal.
LUDWIGS HOLY BLADE!!!

Id start with the Saw Cleaver and the hunter PISTOL…Id ont care for the Blunderbuss.

Dont start with the threaded cane…thats more of a Dex weapons and makes the start much harder.

Be sure to get down in the sewer and find the Hunter outfit to help you in the starting areas with a better defensive “armor”

I’m a dodge / dex player in the Souls’ games, so my BB advice is somewhat different than that above.

 • Cane whip is the ultimate weapon, used in almost every speed run of the game. The range is insane in whip mode. It does make the game more challenging at the start though.
 • There’s no turtling / blocking in BB so be fast on your feet and just dodge and kill.
 • Get used to getting hit and recovering by hitting back quickly.
 • Don’t bother with the stat that raises your gun skill (Blood? I can’t remember). There’s no really great guns in the game that are more than a novelty. Start with the pistol and you’ll likely end the game with it. At NG+++, I still never bothered with it. There are some spell / items that you’ll miss out on using, but they’re not hugely impactful.
 • Get comfortable with shooting to interrupt attacks. You have to experiment to figure out the timing, but the crits are well worth it. You will die a lot and use up a lot of ammo figuring them all out. Just accept it.
 • You’re going to get massively sick and tired of farming blood vials and bullets. It’s the biggest flaw with the game and it never goes away.
 • Late-game, the Sword / Hammer is very useful for knockdowns.
 • You will only get 2 (likely 1 because of how you get the 2nd one) of the highest-tier upgrade materials to get a weapon to +10 per play-through, so make damn sure it’s the one you really want to upgrade before you use it. DON’T use it on a gun.
 • Many more enemies in BB have grab / insta-kills than in the 'souls series, so always be on the move.
 • Chalice dungeons are fun at first, then get kinda annoying late-late-game with all the tiered requirements.
 • Make sure you die early so the doll at the lodge sets up for leveling you. If you don’t die early, you can get kinda screwed out of a lot of your initial XP. Also don’t forget to pick up your weapons from the hands on the stairs!

Since invaders can heal, I suggest just running off a cliff / suiciding when invaded, simply because you can have 20 minute fights that use up all your blood vials, which leads to more very painful farming of them. Normally I like invasions, but because they can heal, it’s just not worth it for the loss of vials you could experience. I’d generally fight for a health bar, then just sit down or run off a cliff if I hadn’t won by then.

The DLC is brutally hard compared to the regular game, which is no slouch either. Bagmen and Ladle Ladies suck.

With its focus on speed and replacing shields with guns, plus the focus on Horror and monsters, it almost sounds like Bloodborne is Dark Souls mixed with Doom. I’ll be right at home!

So the gun works like a ranged parry then? Good thing I just started getting good at parrying

Its a ranged parry yes… the only way to back stab is a charged R2 that staggers them and then you do the back stab. The front back stab comes from the Gun to the face interrupt stagger and then riposte

There are more ways to get Blood rocks "+10 weapons upgrade"
There are 2 in the main game and 1 or 2 in the DLC… you can also buy a Blood Rock with 60 Insight ( a secondary form of currency)

I disagree about the gun stat that @TempusChaoti mentioned… the gun parrys come in very handy and the lower your stat the less likely you get a parry on larger enemies…the larger enemies are the ones you need to parry not only to destroy them to progress but to also farm large chunks of "souls"
There are runes you can equip that give you 30% more souls buy way of parry kills. this can net you up to 15,000 souls in one kill. Very helpful for leveling up, buying fire paper, or bullets and blood vials.
To me the weakest stat is Dexterity… I ran 40 strength, 40 health, 40 bloodtinge and 30 arcane and 15 dex or 20…i cant remember.

But I do like the run off the cliff when invaded idea… brilliant lol

Unfortunately I do not have any advice about Bloodbourne to offer, as I do not own a Playstation system and have never touched the game. The victorian-esque setting didn’t quite catch my interest either, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about the game anyway.

To me it’s dark souls meets London and berserk mixed in with some Cthulhu flair.

Im Streaming THE SURGE if anyone is interested in watching me get wrecked. Im about halfway through the game…maybe more. Its getting really tough and lots of action…heading closer to the Black Cerberus boss fight. No camera on me though…only my mic.

Attention to anyone who hasn’t already played (i.e. Me)
The Dark Souls 3 Season Pass is available for a wonderful discounted price of a whole $10 USD!

I’ll try to play through the DS3 DLC before I pick up Bloodborne in the next few weeks

I finally beat Shadows of Mordor and I reserved the Gold Edition of Shadow of War today as well! What a great game! Now time to start the Nemesis Forge in preparation of Shadow of War!!!

I know that this post a bit old, but wanted to second this. Stopped playing the pc version now because there is talk of a Nintendo Switch version, and this would be a great game for on the go
