Wow, this thread just keeps taking strange turn after strange turn lol.
As far as Scalebound goes, Phil tweeted this in response to someone on Twitter:
From Xbox Follower: “I wish you and the team nothing but the best, SB cancellation did hurt me personally since it was my most anticipated this year”
From Phil: “It hurt me as well and to the community I apologize. I want everything we start to turn out great, to take risks, create diversity”
Now… Having that dude having the name Xbox Follower and saying the cancellation “hurt me” aside, it was nice to see Phil respond. I guess I’m just having a hard time reconciling what I want out of Xbox with what we’re getting.
Dont’t get me wrong, I LOVE Killer Instinct. Couldn’t be happier with it. But outside of some really good experiences like Sunset Overdrive and Ori, which I’m sure would be considered “risks” since they were new IPs, what I really want, and what they keep refusing to deliver is actual, reliable franchises with high quality iterations.
Now, I’m not saying I need them yearly like Forza. In fact, if anything, I’d like to see them pull back on Forza a bit. But they have so many great IPs in so many genres that aren’t shooters or racing games, but they’re seemingly nowhere to be found.
Crimson Skies was a very well reviewed game and I still see people wanting a sequel all these years later. When anyone talks about great OG Xbox games, that game tends to come up along with Riddick, Fable, and many others. Same goes with great 360 exclusives.
Why they seemingly don’t want to build those fanbases up and give people titles that they can expect along with a sprinkling unexpected surprises is baffling to me. Utterly baffling. Again, I’m not asking for 50 exclusives a year. But a nice mix of rebooted franchises, even if some of them are done on a budget, mixed in with a new triple A iteration or two on older games, to help supplement a new Halo game here or a new Gears there… Is that asking too much?
I dunno, either way, I hope that some serious discussions are happening at MS about the direction of the system and what games they want going forward in the wake of this, well, backlash, I suppose.
I know that Scalebound wasn’t at the top of everyone’s wish list by any stretch of the imagination, and sure, some people just look for a reason to complain or to roast an opposing fanbase any time something bad happens. But I have to think that given the current 2017 lineup, the weakening of the Halo, Gears and Forza franchises all coupled with yet another canceled game has to give people a real genuine feeling of “okay, what the hell is going on here exactly?” and that it’s not all just the normal, usual, internet outrage.
