Scalebound officially cancelled

WOW. I must say, I’m rather disappointed.

There really aren’t a ton of Xbox One exclusives that I’m all that psyched for in 2017, but Scalebound was one of them (not that they ever announced the game was coming this year).

Man, first Fable Legends, then that Phantom Dust reboot and now this? On one hand, I’m glad they’re keeping their quality standards high, but goodness. There’s really not a ton on the horizon right now. I’m really hoping MS can pull out all the stops at E3 this year.

Terrible news if true - this was one of the games I was most looking forward to.

NOOO! Scalebound was one of the main Xbox exclusives I was looking forward too.

First Silent Hills, now this? At least I still have KI and Gears of War…

Holy crap! Thats a huge letdown. Awful news.

So I have to wait even longer for a new game from Hideki Kamiya? If this is true I’m very disappointed.

Edit: Confirmed.

As a Platinum Games fan since before Bayonetta even came out, this bites hard. :disappointed:

What if MS shut it down cause they wanna fund something else. What if that something else was Killer Instinct. Eh, wishful thinking.

Never liked Scalebound, as it didn’t appeal to me.

Man, first Fable, then the Phantom Dust reboot, and now Scalebound? I’ll be honest, Fable Legends didn’t look like something I’d want to play, but I still wanted Fable 4. Now that doesn’t seem like something that’ll happen any time soon.

I was curious about the Phantom Dust reboot. Now we’re apparently getting a rerelease or some sort of remake? I dunno. Whatever. Scalebound was really the last big ticket item I was kinda psyched for.

I’ve got a serious case of franchise fatigue where it comes to Halo and Gears, and while I like Forza Horizon, I’ve played three of them now, so I’m not dying for a 4th one already. I also don’t care about the Motorsport line, which I know is coming this year.

I also don’t really care about State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves or Crackdown 3, not that the latter two are even guaranteed for this year.

Outside of a few indy darlings like Cuphead, Ashen, Tacoma and Below, all of which I feel like I have preview fatigue from, what else is there for 2017?

I mean, okay, the year isn’t a desolate wasteland for people that aren’t me and still like Halo and like State of Decay and what not and I’m sure they’ll have announcements at E3, but good lord, there isn’t a single Xbox One exclusive I’m looking forward to this year. Not one. I can’t remember the last time that’s happened.

Really hope KI Season 4 gets announced at KIWC or E3. I’d love to see Lost Odyssey 2, a Crimson Skies reboot, perhaps a new Banjo, Conker or Kameo game. There are plenty of MS franchises I’d like to see again. Here’s hoping a few of them make appearances sooner rather than later.

I was cautiously optimistic for this game - particularly the cooperative gameplay. This is very sad news. It now goes to the wishful thinking Valhalla of games that might have been great (but probably would have been terrible - otherwise they wouldn’t have been cancelled).

But it’s kind of a big black eye for Microsoft’s game development. This thing has been in development for what, 3 years? Ugh

I followed the game for a bit and thought it might be cool, but wasnt convinced yet…that said, for the people who were really looking forward to this, I know how it feels, I was really upset about the Fable Legends cancellation.

I do hope Microsoft realises they need new BIG games to take the place of these kind of games. And I really hope they have been investing in games we dont know about yet…perhaps some Scorpio launchtitles, even if they will be playable on xbox one aswell, the added graphics power should nicely promote the new console.

I hope the freebie of lost oddesey means a sequel is in the work, and they used it as a sneaky promotion.
Also, loved State of Decay, thought it was one of the best games of the xbox360 (funwise, its technical side was a bit wonky), did you try the original @Iago407?
Part 2 looks to rectify the bad technical hiccups, but adds multiplayer, Indont know how I will feel about that, but I have faith in the team working on it.
I have less faith in Rare’s team, but I would love to be surprised. Sea of thieves looks like fun, but I really dont have any inkling on how it plays…seems like fun in short bursts but no depth yet…also not used to playing with big online groups where working together is a must, might give it a try if a lot of forum members here will get into it aswell…

Really hoping for some new games with the rare IP’s though, new games have been really hit (they were fun) and miss (they didnt really sell big time)…Sunset overdrive and quantum break were both awesome games which were completely overlooked, and the big sellers are always the games with the big history (Halo, Gears of War, Forza), using the Rare characters means build in nostalgia, all they have to do to have a big hit, is make them good, which seeing sunset overdrive and quantum break (as mentioned) is doable.

An awesome beat em up adventure game with the battletoads, or a new banjo kazooie game (look how trending yooka layla is…). Use the characters to make a racinggame a la Mariokart, like they used to do with diddy kong racing. And certainly a new perfect dark but with a team backing it like Halo and GoW (after putting Joanna for free in KI off course (big promotion tip here MS, your welcome ).

Waiting for Microsofts E3 though, I have a feeling they want to follow up on Scorpio’s announcement with some big games, last year Ms limited themselves in the gamesdepartment mostly on the games that were going to release in 2016, so perhaps many surprises await is (lets keep positive, right?)

P.s. dont you dare cancel Cuphead!! :rage:
P.s.s. Fortunately they cant cancel Mass Effect Andromeda, most likely my game of the year

I know we’ll never be privy to any behind the scenes stuff, but the results are now Fable Legends cancellation (and studio shuttering), Phantom Dust reboot getting announced and then cancelled within a year followed by Scalebound, arguably one of the biggest non-Halo/Gears/Forza exclusives they have gets cancelled after years of development?

MS has a few black eyes on their game development right now. Obviously I take no joy in saying that or pointing out the failures of hard working people from out here in the cheap seats. But as someone that wants as many great reasons to own the system that I’ve chosen to invest in, I’m really rather disappointed with MS right now.

Granted, they have games on the way. I know that. It just so happens that I’m not interested in any of them. Ugh, I sound like I’m sulking. I don’t mean to. Hopefully E3 brings some awesome announcements and games that I can’t wait to get my hands on.

Of course, that’s assuming those games don’t gestate for a few years before MS squashes them. I don’t mean that as a cheap shot either. You cancel 3 of your somewhat bigger exclusives, and people are starting to whisper about Crackdown 3 possibly being vaporware and who knows what KI’s future holds… Sadly, it’s not a crazy thing to wonder about anymore.

Will there ever be a good JPRG on the Xbox again?

Who knows.

I’m still holding out hope that one day we’ll get Lost Odyssey 2, but obviously I’m not holding my breath. Hell, I’m still waiting for Phil to make good on his promise to make “make it up” to fighting game fans for losing Street Fighter to Sony. Not holding my breath on that one either lol.

Upsetting as that is, I must admit it’d hurt me waay more if you could actually play as the dragons then some dude.

On that note though it’s still pretty upset. It’s still horribly upsetting that it happend though. Here’s hoping the folks at MS can do something soon for the people who want it. I admit this thogh, I’d love to have a new Halo but I’ll only give it any attention if split screen and Elites are back.

Crackdown was touted as a game using the power of the cloud, lets hope it didnt make development hell aswell…

In case anyone didn’t know, MS has officially commented and the game is officially cancelled.

Changed the thread title.

Honestly, I really don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility anymore. Fable Legends may not have been a big, numbered sequel, but the fact that they took one of their bigger franchises and said “nope, you’re done,” and cancelled the game and shuttered the studio, and have now cancelled a 3rd party partnership three years in to development…

I don’t think there’s anything they’d look at and still put through if it wasn’t up to their specifications. On one hand, great, no crappy games. Maybe after garbage like Fighter Within and titles with less than sterling review scores like Crimson Dragon and Ryse made it though, they decided to change things up a bit.

That’s all fine and good, but the horizon looks really grim right now in terms of exclusives.

That would be great, but I recall reading somewhere recently (apologies for not remembering where exactly), that they weren’t going to be buying third party exclusives anymore. I’m not sure what that means for partnerships like this one with Platinum, but most of what they seem to have in development at the moment is straight first or second party stuff like Halo Wars (343), Crackdown 3 (ReAgent), Sea of Thieves (Rare), State of Decay (Undead Labs), Forza 7 (Turn 10) etc.

Unless they’re buying some more studios and not telling people, I’ll be really curious to see if they have a whole lot more in development. I mean, I’m sure Mojang is working on more Minecraft stuff. It’s far too soon for Armature and The Coalition to be announcing new games. We might see what Remedy’s working on at E3, but there won’t be anything exclusive.

On a side note, seeing former first party studios for MS breaks my heart lol. Bungie, Lionhead, Bioware, Bizarre Creations… So much talent…

Oh man, you and me both!

I remember checking it out, but it wasn’t really something I’d normally be interested in. I should probably give it another chance.

And yet another game that could have been great will never see the light of day. It’s like hearing the news of Silent Hills not happening all over again.

This remind me of Prey 2… :sob:

Scalebound was the only game I was looking forward to this year. I wonder what they will have to show at E3. Probably the highlight will be Halo like always. Yawn.

There really is no way they will be able to sell that Scorpio if they don’t have anything up their sleeves besides what’s already revealed and the usual Halo, Forza, Gears. Who’s going to pay 400 dollars just to play Sea of Thieves at 4K. lol no one.

Well, look at the bright side - we still have Sea of Thieves to look forward to.
