Putting KI on PS4 (Hear Me Out) #Fight4KI

Good point. Instead the thread is about whether porting KI to PS4 would be worthwhile. Not to beat a dead horse, but even if you accept that multi platform games simply have a larger reach because they are on multiple platforms (which I do), that isn’t enough to show that putting KI on PS4 would have any significant impact on its tournament presence.

Remember when everyone was lobbying for a Pc port to “save” the game? Because I sure do. I remember hearing about how it would get so many more players in the FGC to try it etc. But I don’t remember @LCD (what the heck is his tag now?) pointing out that no one ever sets up a PC at a tournament. That’s weird. I guess it wasn’t too much hassle then, but it is now.

Games that aren’t SF don’t spend a long time at EVO. And the SF IV community dropped that game like a dead possum and switched to SFV immediately, even though that game was demonstrably not a better game. The developers are continuing to support the game (KI) and a competetive scene for it. But there’s not going to be a magic moment where the game takes off at this point.

And, just to be a jerk - what if we all agree. What if we all buy in to the fantasy that a PS4 port would blow up the tournament scene? It isn’t going to happen. So why are we here?

Fair enough. I agree with healthy refinement and criticism. I didn’t know the game was in a better place because of “constant negativity” …

hmmm …

I thought KI got better firstly, because we are blessed with devs that are continually looking to make a better game, and then, because we have great community members that give great feedback and positive criticism.

Regardless that we have different opinions on how KI came to be in a better place, I’m glad we can agree that the game is indeed in a better place. Here’s to you spreading that “KI is in a better place, go #PlayKI” to all of your followers and viewers!

Oh, and fyi, if you’re interested -

Takeaways I think would benefit those that I at times call negative:

  • Observe the impact of your comments. If you care about your comments being constructive, you’ll want to make sure they had the desired impact.
  • Use the “sandwich” method. The “sandwich” method of criticism is very popular because it offers positive feedback and constructive feedback at the same time. This makes it easier for people to receive without getting defensive or feeling badly about themselves. Begin by mentioning positive things about the person or their work. Then mention the parts that need work, and then end on a positive note. This helps keep the receiver’s self-esteem strong and keeps them interested in improving.
  • Recognize the role of tone. Tone can vary widely in constructive critique, but there is a difference between blunt and cruel. Because a constructive critic cares about improvement, they will not tear down the recipient. Ideally, constructive criticism is gentle enough to be taken in by the recipient. Blunt feedback can be okay, too. However, some people may bristle at it. Cruel feedback should always be avoided.

Look man, I get it, say what you want to say and how you want to say it. It’s everyone’s right. I only post about being positive so that folks, especially well-known KI content creators who have audiences (which again, I definitely appreciate!), are aware that the negative speak can play a part in shrinking KI’s player base.

Back on topic - I’d actually be down with KI on PS4, but only with crossplay, and to get more tournament numbers in. Not sure how MS feels about this though. And, I’m not sure if how the whole buy once, play on all things Windows, would work with a PS4 version. Possibly worth it for more players and better tournament numbers. But I think althought MS/IG may care for tournament numbers, I have a feeling they’d prioritize sales so they can continue doing game development.

Ultimately, I say we just start developing our local offline scenes more and that’ll translate to higher tournament numbers.

I guess what MS could do to get more xbox’s in use at tournaments would be to release another fighter to make the xbox worth using at tournaments. But then that might take away resources from KI, so …

Those two criticism tricks can be found in any corporate HR book. As great as they are, it is sort of insulting when you know that is what they are doing.

Only if you expect never to receive negative feedback…

This all just further supports my theory that the more you know about a game (frame data etc) the less you are capable of enjoying it.

Eh? I’m pretty up on my frames and game knowledge in general, and I love the hell out of KI. Being knowledgable about a game doesn’t preclude enjoyment - I find it’s quite the opposite actually.

Re: SF4 changing over its lifetime, there was removal of unblockables, delayed wakeup, red focus, punishable FADC’s, no FADC’s on fierce DP’s…Ultra was a much different game than vanilla SF4. A better game IMO (eff Elena though), but pretty different.

Regarding writing on the wall because of Evo…meh? Most games not named Marvel or Street Fighter don’t last more than 2 or 3 years at Evo, and KI’s had a good run. It’ll still be at tournaments in 2017 looks like, and Brandon has stated his intent to continue the KIWC next year as well. While I’m extremely dubious about the community hitting some massive inflection point where it takes off in the tourney scene (and don’t think porting the game to any other system would affect that at all), there’s also no reason to think the game is up against some hypothetical death either. KI will likely continue to be what it has been since its launch: a smaller community that’s beloved by its community and generally well regarded, if not played extensively, by the FGC at large. We won’t be main stage at most tournaments, but whatever - we haven’t been main stage at most tournaments in a while anyway.

nope even doe it is on pc in it not realy a point in buying a one cuz all the games that are on one come to pc any way i reahter them work on new things for the game then to work on porting the game for ps4

As much as I understand the logic behind the OP’s idea, I very much doubt it would ever happen. That and your Nintendo logic is relatively sound and makes sense given that the only competition Nintendo has would be a rehash of SFII with some extra features.

PS4 servers has already been hacked once so…no.

I’d rather have another Xbox One exclusive fighting game than to ever see KI on PS4.

A PS4 version of KI is never gonna happen. Period.

The only chance we have is if we can pressure both @Oxygen (Microsoft Studios) and Phil Spencer (though social media) into convincing Sony (or we convince them ourselves) to end exclusivity agreements to order to get PS4 fighting games like KOF 14 and Guilty Gear on the Xbox. Then maybe we can play said game on any console we choose and that we don’t have to get the other console and get buyers remorse a few months. I did and I frankly regret my PS4 purchase to the point where I may just sell it and put it towards something else.

But Microsoft really needs to start listening to their fans, especially after the Scalebound cancellation backlash (I wanted that game too) because they need to have a more diverse lineup rather that generic first person shooting game number 851 every week.

I don’t think Sony paid for GGXrd or KOF, their studios just decided not to put those games on Xbox.

When the 360 was more dominant in the western market they might have had more reason to, but with the Xbox One not taking off as well that old Japanese xenophobia rears its head.

I mean you’ve got studios like Namco and Koei who would already rather put some of their games on the friggin Vita than an Xbox.

Solution. Microsoft buys Japan.

+100 this.

or…you know…japan buys microsoft…i wonder how that would affect the world at large lol.

if sony buys game division of microsoft in some alternate future or some other japanese company straight up takes over the entire microsoft company. the kind of ramifications to the economy of the world at large would be interestng to see

This is why the game is in the state its in. Nobody wants to support the game as is or on the platforms its on. Ps4 would do nothing for the game, everyone would still play sf5. You know the platforms its on, support it there, stop crying about every little detail and just start playing, get your family to play, get your friends playing, start talking POSITIVELY about it instead of going on a 9 month tangent about how kim wus face is ugly. Then maybe we wouldn’t be here asking to put a Microsoft owned property on a competing console and actually be in the EVO line up.

Well it’s no surprise. Japan’s been dominating since the dawn of gaming and that’s most likely not going to change any time soon.

Rather extreme don’t cha’ think?. Personally I don’t care what country the developer originated from. As long as there able to make great games then it’s fine.
