MS has shown that they know how to make sexy female characters that are not just Cheesecake. I know a lot of you are young guys, but sexy and âshowing lots of skinâ are not synonymous.
Lets drop the âsexyâ from the thread - although I have nothing wrong with sexy, I do have something wrong with sexy meaning âin their underwear.â Glamour, however, is a different think an could be very cool.

Well again we got a retro KI ocrhid. Thunderâs is a differetn case since thatâs not even his retro look. Ocrhid at least got hers from KI.

Overtly sexualized female characters became a rather lame tradition left over from the 80s and 90s, supposedly before we had the varied community of players we have these days, so I guess I could understand sex appeal being used as a call back to those times.
Iâm just not entirely sure âsexyâ out out of context costumes are really needed or necessary, especially when the characters werenât designed to be appearing in a wedding dress or a sexy ninja costume, that just isnât who theyâre supposed to be.
Take Mai Shiranui from King of Fighters for example, ridiculously over sexualized? Yes. In keeping with character? Yes, absolutely 100%.
She is a character who does what it says on the tin and if she were to appear in a game fully clothed it would be totally out of character.
Orchid in KI1 was bizarrely dressed but at least the outfit was streamlined enough and barely practical enough for her to be semi believable as a secret agent fighting in a tournament. Then came KI2 and the barrage of ridiculous cheese wire thongs, one of which appeared on a character from a time period in which the g-string probably hadnât even been invented and suddenly the game had even more awkward, leering shots of itâs cg rendered characters striking sexy poses for no apparent reason other than the fact theyâd just won a fight.
KI2 in my opinion, was a much worse game for this reason, they managed to make a pretty bad â â â female character in Orchid (boob flash finisher aside) in favour of making all the females in the sequel bethonged window dressing, panting and posing awkwardly because sex sells.
Donât get me wrong, thereâs nothing wrong with a little sex appeal, but if itâs going to be there, it should at least be fitting, otherwise itâll age as badly as the attitudes towards the female characters in KI2, the outfits in the OP again would probably be" the âbad sideâ of sexy.
