XCom 2 rather famously assumes you failed in XCom 1. But the exception proves the rule, as they say and I agree with you that it’s very likely that the success ending in MK11 is the one they will carry forward.
I agree that it’s very likely, but it’s not a guarantee. Until we know for sure, anything we say on which ending is what and what the characters are doing post-game is speculation, not fact.
Heh. A goodly chunk of this thread (and lots of others here ) is based on guesswork and speculation. As far as suppositions go, I suspect the “good” ending for MK11 as basis for MK12 is probably a pretty decent one to make.
MK12 should have God Liu Kang and Goddess Kitana as secret hidden final bosses.
God. What if they follow that weird Japanese trend with prequels and they call the GKL era game “Mortal Kombat 0”
GKL? God Kang Liu?
But anyways, I’ve noticed recently a lot of people are getting sick of new characters being brought into the game, instead of revamping the older characters like they did with Tremor. At the same time NRS made it clear certain characters were dumped for good (mainly Hsu Hao).
What does everyone here think? Should they stop making new characters in favor of remaking ones like Kobra, Ashrah, Drahmin, etc.? I personally think all characters deserve to be good, and if remaking them in a future game to achieve that goal is what they need than so be it. I won’t lie though, Kotal Khan, Erron Black, and Geras were great, so I don’t agree with the whole “no new characters” thing that the angrier people have been going on about (though I suspect most people are just bandwagoning because of their hatred of guest characters as well).
Great Kung Lao
And I think there needs to be a balance. We definitely need a handful of newcomers. But we also need an equal handful of revamped non-trilogy characters.
No, because most of the 3D-era characters are not good characters.
Kobra is a poor Johnny Cage knock-off. Ashrah does have some potential, but was generally boring and feel flat. Drahmin, as I recall, Boon also said he does not like.
The truth is, though there’s nostalgia associated with the 3D-era characters for those of you who played them when you were younger, that was the true low point for the entire franchise.
Most of the new characters, however, have been well designed and properly fit the story and lore. There’s been some busts, of course, but more better characters than not.
Boon also said they do want to keep doing new characters.
I’m okay with 3D-era characters coming back in very, very small numbers, or being added as DLC characters, but the main roster should be the true, main roster.
I personally don’t mind most of the new characters. every fighting game needs to have at least a few new ones. I’ve already said my opinion on guests so I won’t go any further. But I think if new characters are done well they could be well received. Heck jeff took a liking to Kotal.
heck while devorah is not my favorite I did find an insect character to be very creative.
I also think new characters can be necessary for expanding the lore of a race or introduce a new one. or even expand the lore of a character. They could even bring in and officially introduce characters like horn buckle if they wanted to.
Gonna be honest, I thought you meant the New Era made by God Liu Kang and Kitana, and that you just misspelled GLK as GKL. With that said, I don’t see much in that front, unless we include the parts where Shao Khan conquered realms like Zaterra, Kuatan, the Osh-Tekk realm, etc.
Yeah I agree, the only ones I truly liked were Havik and Darrius (mostly because I liked his primary costume and gauntlet weapon). Ashrah was basically female Kung Lao, and Kobra had a cool alt costume but like Darrius he was just a Johnny Cage clone gameplay-wise.
Still, if NRS wanted to bring them back (like how they almost brought Kira back supposedly) and made them worth caring about, then I won’t complain. I’m more surprised that people are so angry about the newcomers/guests that they would literally prefer diving into the trash heap that was the PS2-era of MK games.
I mean, he already had conquered those places by the time of GKL’s torunament… I see it working in a similar way to MK9 with two to three stories building to a larger narrative, starting with the tournament where the Great Kung Lao finally beast Shang Tsung and ends Kahn’s winning streak, and ending with the tournament where he’s killed by Goro.
Regardless of how people feel about it, a FG sequel will pretty invariably consist of some amount of new characters.
I don’t really have much stake in the question of remaking 3D era characters generally. I think NRS has proven pretty emphatically that they can make a cool character design even with pretty garbage source material (Nightwolf, Tremor, Tanya, Skarlet), so I trust that if they do dig into that barrel then they will do a good job and most likely rework them significantly. I think the 3D era does have a few interesting character designs that’d be cool to see again, but a lot of them could stay collecting dust for all I care. It’s really all just about whether NRS feels attached enough to go for the revive and revamp.
Sindel kills Jax, Stryker, Smoke, Sub-Zero, Kabal and Kitana and nobody bats an eye.
D’Vorah kills Baraka, Mileena and Scorpion and everybody loses their minds.
Have a nice day.
That’s not true though. Just after launch of Mortal Kombat (2011) when people started completing Story Mode, people were freaking and raging over that Sindel scene, hardly believing how “poorly” everyone was “killed off.”
People were still complaining about it during Mortal Kombat X.
I think people stopped complaining when Sindel’s trailer was launched. That’s just me making a Joker reference though.
Even to this day I still felt Hsu Hao could’ve been remade into something better, like go full on with the cyborg angle to make him like a heavy version of Sektor. That’s just me though, no devs are a stranger to throwing away characters so I don’t know why people think NRS is required to salvage their weaker character designs. I think it’s just people being entitled again, thinking every character should come back just because it’s 2019.
Sindel looks fun! Can’t wait to try her!
I certainly don’t think they’re required to. Although there are plenty 3D Era characters who are already good concepts that I would like to see be brought back.
As someone with game development aspirations, it feels like an interesting challenge to take the flawed ones and make them good. Like for example, I think Kobra would work well if they went all out and made him a full blown Street Fighter parody to an extreme and comical level.
You know what I think would be an interesting project? A “what if” game, if Midway made Injustice during the MK Arcade era with similar digitized sprites. How would the gameplay be different? What characters would have made it? How would it have looked? Etc etc.
Mostly fixes. They add new mid round taunts, fatalities, and some various updates.
