Mortal Kombat 11

Shaolin Kahn? That’s nightmarish.

The rest? I’ll decide this weekend if I should really keep going.

I hope this movie is a box office hit. Honestly.

ROFL! Stupid autocorrect. :joy:

I think it’s best to not worry about it becoming one and just hope the film hold sup well.

The “we’ve got fatalities” thing actually bummed me out quite a bit more than I would’ve thought. As I’ve gotten older gore and violence have become bigger and bigger turnoffs for me in movies.

The first MK movie is absolutely beloved, and it was a very tame film in terms of violence. People loved it because it had good fight choreography, a great soundtrack, and fun and memorable characters. New MK leaning a bit more into the (absolutely on-brand) “fatality” aspect doesn’t preclude all of that of course, but that being the first thing that gets mentioned makes me worry their focus might not be where it should be to make a great film.

Time will tell I suppose.

I admit, I’m not super enthusiastic about it either. Partly because they have two choices - kill off beloved franchise characters (not great), or introduce new characters or generic opponents to be on the receiving end of fatalities. The biggest problem for me is that the meaning of death in a movie is so different than in a video game that it’s not really going to capture the essence of a fatality anyway. So it’s just adding gore.

As you say, it’s certainly on brand. But I don’t know that it’s going to make for the best movie. I think most people don’t really want it. And the people who are excited about it now are all going to be disappointed (and probably angry) when they see it on screen.

Who knows…maybe they’ll address fatalities in a way that allows gore yet keeps characters intact…like maybe they have some sort of post-fight revival service or something. I mean death in the MK universe is mostly meaningless anyway save for the spectacle.
Then again the generic opponents could be made to be interesting in several ways. Like maybe not Baraka dies but other Tarkatans do…stuff like that. Or they could kill off minor MK characters. Like would anyone miss Hotaru or Tsu Hao?

Ok so I finally completed the Kombat League Monthly Blood challenges! Whooo…that was tedious but worth it I guess.
I do want to say that there is a large portion of opponents just just rely on 3 characters that I came across after having to complete 50 sets.
Scorpion, Sub Zero are about equal and then Jax coming in 3rd place. All though you do seldom come across an opponent that utilizes these characters very well…most only do the same crap that unfortunately will catch you a lot and beat you.

Scorpions teleport and spear shenanigans leading into jab throw guessing game.

Sub Zeros constant slides into eventual krushing blow for 50% health. (OMG this ■■■■ near mad me throw my controller through my TV! LOL)

Jaxs 50/50 head punching combo …OMG I hate this ■■■■ combo!

I tried very hard to look up techniques to get around these things but I didnt find much. Basically you just have to read your opponents patterns and have a quick enough eye to block high or low. This is no easy task. It really takes the fun out of the game.
My best offense against this was to get the upper hand, knock them down and try my best to stay on top of them and not let them have the ability to get me into a blocking state.
Over all I think I did well but I do see how many people have frustrations and IM not sure who’s fault it is. These people just want to win at any cost so they are going to use whatever tech gets them the win. Can NRS even fix this at any point? Im not sure…but I do feel these moves need to be a bit more react able. They are way to fast.

As I understand it, you should generally just be blocking high against Jax. All his big damage stuff comes from overheads.

So, I’ve been playing a lot of MK11 again recently, and now I’m Grandmaster In Ranked! Trying to go for at least God rank.

I’ve been playing a combination of Kung Lao, Shao Khan and Johnny Cage.

Learning Kotal Khan. Even though he isn’t the greatest right now, I really enjoy him and his character. Maybe I’ll be the best because no one really uses him :smiling_imp:

Also a Grand Master (currently). Good god… Scorpions EVERYWHERE. I know there’s obviously an aspect of improving your own skills but man, I despise fighting Scorpions. That teleport is insanely fast compared to every other teleporting character. Also, the death spin feels like it has zero start up. His damage and combo potential also feel super good as well.

I can do 311 damage as Kung Lao (which is somehow down from 346 prior to Shang Tsung’s arrival) using two bars and I see Scorpions getting 300+ routinely. Last one I fought got 416 without the use of a crushing blow (if I recall correctly).

I dunno. I hate to yell for nerfs, I really do, but it just feels like so much of the roster is behind him in enough areas that I’d like to see some small changes made if for no other reason than to encourage the 70% of people playing online to find a different freaking character.

Okay, salt over lol

Lol. You laugh, but being able to make a good run with a mediocre-to-poor character will generally get you more plaudits that consistent Top 8’s with a top tier :joy:

But yeah…Kotal not so great right now Ostrich :-p

LOL not you too :sob:

Lol. Don’t mind me. I don’t play the game, just keep up with it. So most of what I know probably a bit of my own observations layered over the distilled conventional wisdom. Conventional wisdom says Kotal’s bad, and I haven’t seen enough of him played to have any other ideas about him than that.

You a grown man - do what you want :3

Kotal is one of the struggle characters for sure. But, he’s a pretty interesting character to me. Plus at the time of this writing I just beat a Sonya Blade in Grandmaster Rank with a 4 Win streak with Kotal. :smiling_imp:

I love Kotal. One of the coolest characters introduced in my opinion. Just messing with you

Kotal actually has potential I think. Just that his tournament variations are kinda crappy, and the fact that he gets zero oki from his command grab is super rough.

I doubt those guys will be in the movie.

I know you are right, I just have a bad habit of blocking low… and he does have a 50/50 where he can go low when you think he is going over head. Its less damaging though so I guess its better to take that small low combo then take the big over head.
It all just moves so fast… all the characters…except mine lol… Kabal
