Considering the first pack has 6, and the amount of characters in the leak is 9, I think it’s safe to assume there are still 3 unknowns.
In that case my hipe for at least two of them would be.
1: Reptile
2: Ermac
I’d add Millennia but she sadly got the MKX Jade treatment which sucks for her fans. But I could choose another 3D era character as well.
Maybe Nitara or some other character.
I still think Reptile and Ermac are sitting this one out.
Ermac, I think is getting in. They wouldn’t redesign an outfit for him just for a Krypt scene. Reptile is probably out though
Kenshi is in the krypt…
I don’t think any of the rumors posing as leaks have turned out to be real so far. Those that have are just as likely to be lucky guesses as real leaks. I don’t know why people persist in spreading them. Especially those that don’t make any sense like 19 dlc characters. It’s a huge number, twice as many as any previous NRS game and more than 3/4 the size of the current roster. It would be an absolutely enormous undertaking and NRS would almost certainly need to be advertising if that much content was being released later.
I wish they would do this for PC and Switch as well, would make things much more convenient.
Quick FYI for the Switch version…do NOT put the Switch to sleep while doing Towers of Time, you will lose connection and it will boot you out of the tower you’re working on. I actually had one of the tutorial towers finished but the final results screen, put it to sleep real quick to take care of something else, and had to do the whole tower over. That would have really sucked if it had more than 4 fighters in that tower.
It sucks but there’s no way they can get everyone in the game without years of DLC, and since they turn out a new similar game every 2 years that isn’t going to happen.
Actually I imagine creating characters is tougher for Mortal Kombat than it is for other Fighters currently. NRS has to record new intro dialogue for every matchup, program and animate all the possibilities of them getting broken and torn apart including their actual skeleton, and make sure everyone syncs up in all the cinematic sequences like fatalities. Not to mention the variation and gear systems they’ve been pushing that every character must have options for.
Which is one of the reasons I’ve been saying they should drop gear/customization/variations. We don’t need it, and they’re working themselves to the bone to do it.
I’d love for that 19 characters thing to be true, even if it runs contrary to what Ed told GameInformer in that rapid interview with Ben. That seems like a good number when talking about “years” of content.
I get it, two is still plural, so the game could release in 2019 and still, through two DLC packs, have content in 2019 and 2020, which is two different years, but still.
As for the grind issues in the game, has anyone heard anything new on when they might push out that update that gives us the koins, souls and hearts? Can’t recall what other stuff they’re pushing out with that update, but hopefully the difficulty has already been lowered.
Kinda wish they’d also allow people to stay in a tower past its expiration. Like if you enter tower one with a second remaining on the clock, you should still be able to go through all four of those towers to get the items associated with beating it. Or, if they want to be more strict, at least let people that are currently in the 4th tower when time expires finish up that tower. Nothing like grinding against an overly difficult boss, only to lose out because time expires.
the leak posted should be taken with a grain of salt, some are probably accurate, most may be fake
The 500,000 koins, along with the additional hearts and souls popped up in the game as a notification. I press the button to claim them, aaand I don’t get them. Great.
I’ve had this happen before. It should “fix itself” after awhile. Good luck!
@CausingThought6 and @Blacklash93, it’s hard to have a good idea what the rate limiting steps are for adding characters in MK. I’d be really surprised if it was the gear. Cosmetics can be added to the game at any time, so they aren’t time sensitive and they just require the work of the 3D artists. The voice work is expensive but it can also run in parallel with the games development. I suspect the voicework means the DLC is already planned and fixed - they can’t just throw in a new character on a whim. But I don’t know that it would be especially limiting. I think the truly limiting step would be the character animation and the fight balancing. And NRS characters actually change substantially between iterations, unlike say SF, or Tekken (or Soul Calibur).
While I don’t have any insider experience, there is some evidence to support this. Animations are by far the most heavily re-used assets and in fact even when similar outfits are used they typically go ahead and remodel them from game to game. If you look at the recent article on “crunch” at NRS, it’s not surprising that it’s focused on the QA (quality assurance) team. These are the folks who have to go and play through the game and make sure all the character interactions are occurring as expected and see if there are bugs etc. This is an incredibly time consuming step, so there is no substitute for just having people put in the hours. This has to happen whenever they make major changes to the game and it has to happen AFTER all the assets are in place. So it is both critical and stepwise. So my guess is that this is one of the most (if not THE most) “difficult” steps in the process in terms of time and resource management. This also explains why sometimes you see a trailer of a nearly complete character and then it’s still weeks or months before it is finalized.
So, a bit of a ramble, but I just wanted to point out that I don’t think the gear assets or the voicework is likely much of an issue for the number of additional characters.
I understand. I just… I just wish that it wasn’t such a grind to unlock all this stuff. I hated it in I2 and I hate it here. I hated how you unlocked skins in MKX, some of them were so difficult yo do that I never did them. It never feels attainable. I’ve always wanted to just go to an in game store and spend the coins i’ve earned to unlock the costumes I want. You could even still give them weird unlock requirements to do it without grinding coins. I just want the option because I feel like unless I dedicate my life to the game (or spend $60 extra dollars a year to loose over and over again online) I’ll never see so much of what the game has to offer. It’s demoralizing. Especially sense I’m not a fan of the revenant designs for these characters or Dark Raiden. But the odds are stacked against me that I’ll see any other versions, ever.
Please tell me you at least unlock a skin by beating arcade mode with a character. They did that in X.
No question there are better systems. You have to acknowledge that some people have really loved the Krypt in past iterations (and in this iteration too - up until the recognized that the grind is a mess). But it seems a bit odd to me that you would rather have them not make skins and costumes rather than just letting it go and not worrying about unlocking them.
For what it’s worth, I don’t like the revenants and I never have. I don’t care for dark Raiden much either, although the red lighting is kind of a fun change of pace.
Have you done all the character tutorials for the characters with revenants? I suspect you get a living skin for each of those, based on my experience with Kung Lao. It’s maybe a five minute process and not difficult at all.
I haven’t even had a chance to play yet. The game shipped to my house, so I can’t play until I go home from college, so not until Wednesday.
I can talk about the story because I watched it online.
I was gonna do the character tutorials for each character though. It’s on my list.
I’m fine with costumes. But I don’t need 10 alt colors for each option. I don’t need individual custom prices of those costumes. And I don’t need optional ways to change character gameplay. In my eyes, MK9 and I1 did it right and every other game sense has made things worse.
I just feel like if I don’t unlock and experience everything the game has to offer, I haven’t gotten my money’s worth. And now that I have a job, and a humongosaur backlog, it just feels like I’m wasting time if I’m not continuously making active progress.
@STORM179 I had another Tower expire on me as I finshed the tower prior tot he finale. 30 min towers isnt enough time when the AI has tag team help plus high difficulty. THis is the 4th time Ive had one expire as I went into the last tower. I messaged the MK11 offical Facebook page and Im going to hit them on Twitter too. They need to fix this…its very upsetting when you work for 20-30 mins for a skin, icons, gear, ect…only to not get it.
Maximillian has a pretty decent recipe for an AI Noob that wrecks shop in the towers. Have you tried that?
How do you set an AI to run through towers? It surprises me that they’d include a feature like that.
I haven’t actually done it but there’s an option in one of the menus to set the AI preferences for different characteristics - like rushdown and combos. Then I think you can just assign it when you pick a variation.
