Mortal Kombat 11

At this point I have no complaints with the beta. But it was nice of them to add the Kustomize mode. I wasn’t expecting them to give us any more than a few characters but it is fun.

I’ve pretty much already shared my current gripes about the game but that could change soon.

Is there any offline stuff I can do in the Beta?

You can play Towers (Not towers of time of course.) you can also do customization too.

Eh, I think I’ll sit out and wait for the base game. The towers probably don’t even have endings yet. What’s the point without endings.

While I’m hoping to not be disappointed by the roster I will say this.
They are getting more creative with their fatalities.

Well, keep in mind that’s not what he’s said. He hasn’t said that he’s having trouble winning. He’s just said he’s not having much fun. So I’d give him the benefit of the doubt.

I know it’s a bit off topic, but I’m on a plane that has lost its hydraulics… we are circling to burn off fuel and then attempt to land by putting the gear down manually. There’s a good chance it all goes fine. But well, if you don’t hear from me, it’s been fun.

Edit: on the ground and all is well. Now I just have to figure out how to get where I’m going.

I think it’s pretty undeniable that MK11 is a well produced game, but whether it speaks to you or not from a gameplay perspective is very much up to personal preference. I don’t like the feel of NRS games for instance, so I don’t think I’d have much fun actually playing the title. Thought doesn’t care about character customization, so that’s not going to be a selling point for her. Different people value different things in their FG’s…it’s perfectly fine for something to just feel ok or ambivalent about (or even just not like) MK11.

And I dunno @MandrillManiac, assuming the beta is a reasonably sized slice of the game (which it seems to be), MK11 may just not be the game for you, in which case having it on preorder doesn’t make a ton of sense. I love watching NRS games played, but the feel of them is just…not my thing. The weight of the characters and moves feel off, the string system is unpleasant for me, etc. So I don’t buy them, because they’re not titles that I will particularly enjoy. If the core gameplay loop speaks to you then a game can be worth the purchase even if it’s flawed (goodness knows this is what Anthem is for me :joy:), but if the core loop is just ok or not great for you then it’s probably not worth a buy no matter how well-produced it is.

That’s just my $.02.

EDIT: glad you made it in ok @BigBadAndy. Where are you this time?

Newark. On the way to Barcelona, which should have been a fun work trip…

Ah, Newark. One of the airports that’s managed to make it to my “under-no-circumstances-fly-through-there” list :joy:

And of course now it’s a mob scene of people trying to get on the hotel shuttle etc. United customer service is… well United customer service.

My US colleagues told me to never fly United.
But enough about me, glad that your safe.

I think the game is beautiful. I don’t recognize Skarlet and Jade as I no longer get that female ninja vibe but they look stunning. Same for Liu Kang, just awesome how he looks.
I never liked MK’s combat system (I feel too boxed in if that makes any sense) so I will probably do more single player stuff but no complaints from me on gameplay at this point…

Both times I went to CEO, my flight was delayed, and it was nearly a fight to the death with me having to empty jump Critical art the nice people that were delayed too and trying to cut me in line for a hotel stay.

Anyways, since I got into the stress test, I played some of the Closed Beta as well without pre-ordering.

It’s cool, Jade is now on my “do not play” list, because she’s kinda boring to be honest. Not many combos, and she’s literally a Zoner with not much combo potential besides the corner. Kinda sucks, because I do like Jade. Oh well. Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Johnny Cage seem the most fun to me. Can’t wait for the full release.

Lol. United has made my list of airlines to never fly under any circumstances…they screwed me over one too many times, and now I’ll just pay an extra $50 or $100 to keep from giving them another chance at it :joy:

I actually was kind of underwhelmed by Kung Lao. Some of his stuff looked really cool (flurry punches ftw!), but a lot of his hat shenanigans were more “meh” to me. Liu Kang’s basic moveset was really cool I thought, but the stance stuff didn’t really hit me (and like Swordsman I though the nunchuck reflect seemed a bit impractical). I’ve always had a soft spot for Liu though, so overall I was super happy to see him looking good and animating better.

Jax was cool, but I just couldn’t get over how his arm mechanic was basically a mashup of Tusk and Kilgore’s heat effects/mechanics :joy:

Gonna elaborate! I had a lot of fun with MK9 and Injustice 1 (Mostly the latter due to most of the super moves Being Super-Powered)

These games ( i2 Mk11) just don’t feel right for me. I was excited for Baraka coming back. That’s why I pre-ordered. But all in all. That’s not enough to keep hooked I feel. Due to the gameplay feeling super not fun for me. Injustice 2 was overhyped for another reason that I don’t remember.

I hope others like it though and I did not mean to sound like an edgy ■■■. I was just ranting. Pay this maniac no mind.

@FallofSeraphs76 @STORM179

Also @BigBadAndy are you from NY or NJ?

Well dude I’m sure they can improve Baraka to make him fun for you. Don’t give up man.

I live in northern Virginia and had a connection through Newark. But I did live in Central NJ for about 15 years. You from around here or just curious?

Thanks for sharing your additional thoughts on the game. I sort of understand about Injustice 2. I loved the first one and the second one is better in pretty much every way but just didn’t capture me the same way. I liked Grundy in the first game because of his slam strings. Neither game really paid off for me in terms of return on investment. But they are great games and I’m happy to have them in my library.

Lots of people are disappointed in the lack of combos in MK11. I actually think there’s lots of combos, but people are really complaining about the pace of the gameplay. It’s too bad because I really like the pace of the gameplay. But as @STORM179 says, different games work for different people.

Newark is my go-to airport. Was just curious.

And no problem. Just trying to shed some light on the subject

For some reason I thought you were out in Washington State… any ideas of fun things to do in Cartaret? We are stuck here for another half a day.
