Mods for PC version?

In my opinion, the only things that really need remodeling are the season one retro skins; the season two and three retro skins are perfect :smiley:

Wrong. I understand some very few developers will give you the SDK and modding tools, that does not mean they will fix your game if you break it. Releasing modding tools is not supporting mods, it is just allowing and facilitating mods, unless that is what you mean , I am misunderstanding and we are disagreeing about semantics.

Here is my honest approach or pitch to them.

I want to remake the retros, plain and simple. They stick out like a sore thumb in this game, which is sad, because it is one of the things that a lot of people were the most excited for. I’m not saying they are just ok, they are REALLY bad, and I can correct them and get people really excited for them again. This will help KI immensely, because a lot of people like to put down on KI because of the bad models. I want to put a stop to that. KI was groundbreaking and made its name in the arcade by having amazing graphics and sound (and a combo system), and it can again.

I am a professional 3d modeler. I do a lot of contract work on various titles. This is not a hobby for me, it is my career. There is no learning curve for me, I can step right in and help immediately. I would much rather be helping out to make the core game amazing for everyone instead of just trying to tack mods onto the PC version, but I am doing all that I can with what I have.

I would be more than willing to submit to any intro art test or anything they need me to do in order to get to help out. There is no doubt that I can get it done, and get it done quickly.

As for a budget, I have pitched it for free because of the urgency I feel about the need to help out, and my all around love for the KI franchise. I have been there since the original arcade release, and I am still here today. I want to be a part of it and help it be amazing. I luckily have built up a skillset, and see a need for it, that can help me do that. I want it to be a zero risk, all reward option for them. But if they wanted to not go with free, and come to an agreement for a modestly budgeted agreement, I have no problem with that either. Either way is completely fine with me, because either way, I am doing it anyway.

I will, very soon, have up to 3 full retros ready to be shown and ready to go. This is more than enough proof that I can get the job done, and more than enough of a demo reel. While I admit I have been a little abrasive on this board in the past, I have also shown that I know what I am talking about, and have the skillset to get the job done. I really want to just change my tone and help out.

So that’s really it. I just want to help them make KI look amazing. A really good starting point is a new retro character pack. I want to make that happen. They could sell it and make some money, or just give it away. It should be a no brainer since I am offering my service at such a great budget lol.

I really wish someone over at IG would take notice and give me a shot, but even if they never do, I’ll still be right here posting new stuff for people to see and use just because I love doing it. It’s all up to them.

This is as formal as a pitch as I can make short of getting my demo reel together and just applying to work there. I would love to come at it more from this angle though. I want to contribute, so that it is even less of a risk for them, and they have been really good about working with people in this way (Max, Little V, and others), so I know that they are open to it. I just hope they will extend an offer such as that to me.

We’ll see how things go though, either way, look for new models soon!

You’ve got to approach it from a more formal angle I say. Though, if you build a convincing profile then all is well. I saw Keits speaking/joking to someone about sending in an application to IG a while back in the twitch stream. If the offer is as good as you say it to be, they’l consider it, and that’s a start I guess?

I would humbly suggest if you do want to make a serious pitch then to message keits or Adam on here just asking for leads or feelers on your situation, or even going to IG’'s main website, which last time I checked should have an application/email for perspective employees/consultants

It would be better to simply pm the mods to check the actual chances of something nice happening.

Or simply do your best, show the finished models, an see if they think they are worth their time.

I remember back in the Season 2 forums, when the textual stream about Aganos was posted, they showed this picture…

This got me thinking, this is totally in-game. especially when you see Glacius. Now I wonder if it’s possible to mod stages into something simple like that? Maybe we can chroma key our beloved KI fighters, especially Rash with his glorious taunt…

I extracted the levels, and yes, it would be just as easy to mod them.

I am working on changing the globals as well to fix the way some characters fade out (due to particle problems). The overall bloom and post effects are available to change as well in the xml files.

Also, it is fairly trivial to swap attachments for characters as well because of the way the settings are laid out. I am working to get some custom geometry in there now so that we can add new customization sets.

spinals retro is fairly simple. its just a skeleton with a sword, shield, and a headband. (since the belt he wore is now an accessory) how did his model turn out? what about DHs version? i can wait patiently because you are quick. i just want to know how he turned out specifically.

is it possible for you to apply spinals laugh to every single sound associated with him? his laugh is infectious.

also how low can you make the effects like shadow moves and various fireballs go without turning them off completely? the amount of effects bothers me a bit with how important noticing animations are.

you should also do a comparison from original in game to your version in the videos. sorry for all this text. ■■■■■ excitin yo.

The one thing I can’t help thinking about all this is how will changing the models work with regards to hitboxes, in-game animations, etc?

Spinals retro is actually one of the better ones. It was kind of hard to mess up a skeleton lol. I can touch a few things up on him though.

Just looked through Spinals config.

Each character has their own configs for which particle effects and sound effects are triggered when they are used. It is easy to switch them around and change them. This can be on hit, on defend, or on event it seems.

You could look in his event config and just add in and specify the sound from his library there. That should cause it to trigger. You could also look in his impact setting and make him laugh everytime he takes a step lol.

Love that laugh. I would post it here, but I still dont know what is acceptable and what is not. So I guess maybe PM me. Im going to make it my “Youve got a message” tone on my iPhone.

The Orchid you made looks pretty ■■■■ good, so much better than the default one made by the actual devs of this game. The same thing happened in SF5 they released Alex and he looked like a homeless guy, then some guy on deviantart god bless his soul, he made an actual 3rd strike Alex mod and everybody applauded him.

Capcom still thinks ronnie coleman is the way to go which is sad had they done basic research they would known the Arnold Greek statue look is actually the way to go as coleman looks repulsive.

So, what you are saying is that for example retro Orchid is one character and the ki1 and ki2 outfits are accessories, right?. So for every returning characters we can have their ki1 AND ki2 outfits? :smile:

Hey SightlessKombat changing things like clothing and skin tone, wouldn’t affect hitboxes.

As for body size tweaks, in doing some street fighter body size mods myself in streetfighter, some things that people like to tweak (sizes of arms, legs, etc) can actually be freely inflated or deflated without changing hitboxes whatsoever, since those seem to be based on the centerpoint coordinates of each model.

There’s an interesting grey line we walk with mods, especially pulling things out and then sharing them as individual downloads. That’s essentially piracy.

So the core ask is don’t post links to directly ripped files like music, effects, models, stages, etc. Essentially, mods shouldn’t include any of the original source files with them.

If you want to post images of WIP in modding, and it’s not outside of T rated stuff (because nude skins are a thing) then that’s OK.

As @rukizzel said, since we don’t officially support mods at the moment, we would prefer if you don’t post “how-tos” regardless of how safe and bug-free they were for you to do, because no two PCs are configured the same, and we won’t offer support if you run into any issues while using them.

Man, that orchid skin is way better than the horrendous crap we got from Double Helix (no offense to them.) I’ve noticed lately (especially with SFV) that fans have been able to do better costumes than the actual developers (sorry if I offended anyone at IG, just my honest feelings).

I think I offended a lot of people so I’m ready to be burned :y

that actually reminds me. how easy would it be to make hisakos victory animation not tear the textures so hard? it ruins the effect. she looks fine until she wins.
