Alright, I feel I need to clarify things a bit as far as my sentiments on the sale of the game.
It’s not just this I’m worried about, and in fact, this is far from the biggest concern I have about MvC Infinite. What I’m really worried about is Capcom pulling some stunt that is in the larger scope of things dishonest. For the last few fighting game releases, in some manner or another, Capcom has tried to do something that essentially has made me more cautious about approaching ANY product they sell, given that something will inevitably come up that either shows the had some dishonest intentions from the start, or had the audacity to try and sell a product that doesn’t measure up to the standards they promise, only to have it proven the day of launch or some ways down the road.
With IG, though they always seem to play really close to the chest when it comes to timelines, they deliver what they promise, and when they can’t they are up front to us about it. In terms of communication, I’m satisfied with the way the developers present us with information, and even share with us in the development process at times. They don’t say they promise one thing, and then either deliver something else entirely, or fail to deliver what they original had marked down. At the beginning of season 3, they told us a big story mode type experience with lots of replayability and use for the KI gold with the preorder was coming, and as far as I’m concerned, promise fulfilled.
Capcom on the other hand has had a recent history with nickel and diming people in what, as far as my perception of it, is dishonest business practices. On top of that, they have launched incomplete, partially functional products to market. With each recent title, there has always been some point of controversy or something that comes to light later on. It’s made it REALLY hard for me to trust them, and why I still haven’t purchased SFV on PC, and why I most likely won’t ever. SFxTekken, MvC3, SFV, they have all some issue that shouldn’t have happened, but did.
Now I can understand Capcom has to employ the best strategy within the current digital sales environment and consumer demand for constant fresh content, but with all things there’s a right way and a wrong way, and they tend to lean towards the latter, which quite frankly I feel is putting them in the financial position they are currently in, more so than the fact that the FGC is a niche fan base to sell to or any other potential excuse.
That’s my perspective of the situation. Whether it’s valid or not, I leave that to you, but as much as I want to be excited for this new title, any hype I have has been overshadowed by a great deal of skepticism and overly cautious analysis from being burned on their past dealings. I hope I’m wrong, and perhaps they launch this game with a well crafted netcode, potential to expand, working day 1 multiplayer, and a game that innovates and is set apart from its predecessors, and above all, is fun to play. However, their record is against them, as far as I’m concerned.
