Level 4 Ender Opinion Poll

IG/MS should just make it so that ultra enders have this animation and not level 4 enders. that way we only see it once per match guaranteed and they can still have their new “toy” in the game.

Just going to pop back in to say that I feel the complaints (yes, even Infil’s) are overblown. And I say that as someone who has said multiple times that the 3D level 4’s need work.

  • There is no dropping of frames in the 3D level 4’s…it’s the exact same animation as a standard level 4, just with a dynamic camera.
  • Comparing a GIF from a non-60 FPS stream to a GIF from another random stream clip (from who knows what source quality) is not an apples to apples comparison.
  • All level 4 enders use “recycled” animations, and always have. Thunder does his overhead in some, Hisako does a rekka swipe in another, Sadira does a close HP in another. Many normals that you see in a level 4 are and always have been normals that a character actually has, just with additional hitstop, shockwaves, and all that other jazz for more “impact”.
  • In general, beware slowing down animations too much to dissect them. Most animations are meant to be viewed at their intended speed, and slowing things down too much (as we tend to do when really analyzing a new graphical feature) will often reveal flaws and inconsistencies that are completely unnoticeable in real-time. Watch a big-budget 3D movie sometime in slow motion - you’d be surprised what the animators have gotten away with.
  • It is not/will not be impossible to tell positioning after the transition, so stop acting like it is. All the level 4’s that I saw ended with more than enough time to get your bearings.
  • Believe it or not, not everyone hates the effect, so beware this apparent sense that “everyone” thinks the new enders are bad. I asked some of my friends who are interested in the game what did they think of the 3D level 4’s and they loved them, even when compared side-by-side to me playing the game. Anecdote is anecdote, and rarely a good way to determine the popularity of a thing.
  • It is not necessary to continually tag the devs on this thread. They’ve shown time and again that they keep up with these forums, and it’s probably annoying to keep getting pinged on a thread they’re watching anyway. I’m sure they’re taking all the feedback regarding the 3D level 4’s, even if they don’t choose to respond here.

As I said however many posts back, I think the 3D level 4’s need some additional TLC. Right now they are a bit too jarring, some are just a bit off, and others reveal strange quirks of KI’s ender animations that were previously hidden by being on a 2D plane. That said, I actually do think the mechanic has merit and can work, and think that, done properly, they can be additional sources of hype within the match.

…that just might work.

It’s only one hit so the hit stop would be to bad and it could put more emphasis on Jago’s ballerina skills.

I especially thought tusk Kim Wu and orchids look awesome

Lol yeah, true but some characters have ender tricks to do more than one like Jago, Fulgore, Glacius, etc.

That screenshot looks like they’re at a disco lmaooo

Okay but at that point the opponent doesn’t have to see them and you (the person doing the ultra) is just doing shenanigans and it doesn’t affect anyone’s gameplay except your own.

Well they would still see it, it’s implemented in the game so it can’t turn off but it doesn’t affect gameplay, will just look awkward.

Who knows though, they might just make it Ender = Blowout to prevent anything after.

The camera angles and excessive cutting is the part that really bugs me. Its like Michael Bay on crack.

LOL!!! I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who thought Mick Bay with the shaky camera.

Everyone seems to love it on SFV and games like persona and tekken even marvel vs capcom so

Pretty much looks like it’s in the game. There’s not an option here.

And I love how rukari responded to a dweeb who had the audacity to ask why they were listening to cinder theme on Fulgore level

‘Because we CAN’

I wish I new how to make gif’s some weren’t too bad others were just…wow.

I’m not opposed to cinematic camera movements during a canned animation sequence. These are just poorly executed hack jobs.

You know am one of those people. In fact I recall writing a post on here that KI needed more personality. This isn’t what I had in mind and instantly regret saying that.

The thing about SFV, MvC, and the Guilty Gears is in those games those supers have style. They have personality. They transition well into the move and look high quality.

I think the best way I can explain it is by showing you two videos. This is a video of a tech reviewer back in his early days. Look at the camera work in the first few minutes. Forget what he is talking about just the camera work. Watch the camera work until the 1 minute mark and then watch the next video.

Now look at this review of the same phone by The Verge, another tech news site. Look at the camera work. The subtlety of it. Back then the guys at Technobuffolo tried emulating the style of the Verge in a lot of their reviews, sadly it was very amateurish.

This is what I see when I look at KI. It’s trying hard to have its own style and trying to make something as unique as those close up Xrays, Supers from SF, and other unique wow factors. It just doesn’t land on its feet and it looks awkward like that first video. It’s trying to emulate something epic that other fighting games have accomplished but it comes off looking bad and clear as day they don’t have the technique to pull it off.

The good news is they can improve, in time. Just hope they don’t rush it and just throw anything out there until it looks good.

Here you see a modern video from them. You can clearly see the quality jump. Hopefully the devs see what I see and realize what I find distracting. Also, the point of these videos wasn’t to show the camera work but how the emulating at the beginning was bad.

I like it… new cameras are the way forward they just need some love and more effects.

I have less of a problem with the camera shifts than I do the screen blacking out. I’m really opposed to the screen blacking out, though I feel the camera work isn’t too good, it could be made to work. Maybe make them more subtle and less extreme? It would make the wonky animations Infil mentioned less noticeable, not to mention if you just take out the black out, you have stuff in the background to also distract from it. The black out just feels way to sudden, drastic, and imposed. Even if technically there is no difference in terms of gameplay, it just feels awkward and It makes it feel like there is a difference. Just looking at it in terms of “epicness” subtle camera effects while being able to see the background is much cooler than drastic camera changes with a black backdrop, with some blue. It’s just not good, really ruins the flow and impact of watching KI gameplay. It’s very off-putting. If they take out the black out and fix the camera angles, awesome. If they just take out the change all together, great. Otherwise, the game is gonna be much much less enjoyable to watch, and I’ll probably try to avoid doing too many lvl 4 enders…

That’s a promotional cam angle from killer instinct reveal commercial versus an in game demo of a work in progress.
I clearly see life bars and the angle of the former is not an available angle in the current KI.

When the game releases in 2 weeks, feel free to stop On by with an exact copy of in game comparisons.

This would lose in a court of law.

Then, I’m not the developer, maybe you can express your sorrows and disappointment to them in a private message.

The stream seemed to have the guys at MS in a huge heap of fun, maybe you want a graphic accomplishment over fun godspeed and good luck if you can program a better game.

The promotional cam angle is very close to what is currently in the game and is what MS/IG should probably be working towards achieving.
