Thanks for the reply, it’s really cool to see the other side of it in a professional response.
No argument from me
…Shoot. While I was typing Adam stole my thunder.
I think the way you express ideas matters a lot - and to that end I apologize for anything (and everything) I said that was not conducive to a constructive conversation.
Well…I guess that’s that. Adam has basically told us in a way that he’s seen all of the posts, and working on it. This thread was just interesting to say the least.
Farewell Community… We will see each other soon…
Just to be clear, I’m not saying “don’t post your issues or concerns” – that’s not what we want.
What I am saying however is “be polite, respect others, and post your issues in a constructive manner”, as that’s the adult thing to do.
I completely understand. There is a difference between Criticism & Constructive Criticism. Sorry if my post came out a bit harsh in some sense. I meant it in a positive way.
All the issues I had with Kim’s face stem from the trailer through a twitch stream. As mentioned above these will be addressed. So that “quality” issue will fix itself. Very happy to hear that indeed lighting was a factor.
I have deleted the rest of my very long rant on this topic. I have been tempted many times by both sides but need to refrain
Game play, can’t win hearts of people who haven’t played the game.
Thanks. I wanted to hear the truth from the source because there are so many people saying things that they heard but I never really found any confirmation from the source if what we saw was an old build, beta, or what not.
If so then what you suggest (at a guess) is to stop these showcases of characters to come.
I for one enjoy these showcases. WIP or no, it builds hype and it gives IG a chance to tell us what they’ve been doing and what we are to expect.
We know how the game plays out and when they go through a characters moves, we start working out what is possible with that character, because we know the gameplay in general.
It can’t assure it’s going to win hearts, but it helps.
If you mean it won’t win the hearts of anyone who hasn’t played the game, then I can’t say anything against that, cause you could say the same for every game that gets shown off like Kim Wu was.
Do you watch E3? Do you get hype for a game you know nothing about except what they show you? Then how can you claim that what IG showed off can’t win hearts?
I don’t know what else to suggest, except maybe a stick cam, so people watching can see how the player affects the character?
IDK:S
Don’t know what forums you are browsing but these complaints seem to be the biggest in KI history. It’s pretty clear that people feel this is a controversial subject that needs to be addressed. If it were not a concerning matter this thread wouldn’t have reached (as of now) 152 comments.
I’m going to disagree, Three words:
Season 1 Glacius.
Everyone hated the design. But now look at it him. People Love the thing and I’m willing to bet People will love Kim wu and her face. Just give it time.
I always thought Glacius was fine. It wasn’t his new design that won people over, it was his retro which was pretty faithful to his original design. Same with Cinder. People complained about his look but his retro pretty much eased a lot of the complaints, they even posted his classic costume on the forums to ease the complaints.
In Kim Wu’s case, we don’t get an alternative option. People on here are saying that it’s not her final look but if we look in past cases like Omen, there were plenty of complaints and even the devs said it wasn’t his final look and that his mask was an accessory. Turns out it wasn’t true, it indeed was his final look. This is worrying for us who don’t like Kim Wu’s current look. It could be true of what people are saying on here that it isn’t her final look but the devs haven’t said that and even when they have in the past it has turned out to be a lie.
We don’t want to be silent because in that past when they have said it wasn’t Omens final look we indeed went silent but were sorely disappointed with his final look. Fool me once…
It wasn’t his final look. They changed his mask so it blends in better. The original mask looked wooden.
This is what I was refering to. It’s not as big as the omen/Glacius Controversy.
It’s gonna be the same with Kim wu.
But Let’s Just agree to disagree. How bout it? This thread has run it’s course anyway.
Doesn’t matter if it isn’t as big as omen or Glacius, that’s just a redirection of the argument at hand. Point is people aren’t happy now. It’s not going to be the same with Kim Wuu because it’s not a complaint about her skins which is easily replaced but her face. Something that won’t change if she gets an alternate or classic skin. Not only that but people still complain about Omen and even Max brings it up every time he plays Omen and he even made a video about his thoughts on his character design but it landed on deaf ears.
It’s not that people got over it. It’s that our complaints were and are ignored on Omen. There isn’t anything we can do and I can personally understand the situation. I hate Omen’s character design and complained since day 1 till the day they change him but am not going to complain about it every day on here because I know that KI is a budget game. There isn’t much that can be done to change him at this point unlike Kim Wuu whom still has a chance at change.
It’s a feedback thread. There is no end to feedback.
I do think Adam needs to clarify how he wants his constructive criticism though. It’s obvious that a ton of people aren’t happy with the current look of Kim Wu. A lot of us want our voices to be heard and not ignored. So far it seems like a lot of it is being ignored with only one person getting an official reply because our feedback isn’t constructive enough. We aren’t developers so we can’t express in a formal language what we don’t like about her looks. A majority of us can’t say the textures on her face need to be re done because a lot of us don’t speak the language of a developer. We can’t say they need to go back to Maya(the software) and rework certain characters animations because a lot of us never used the software. A lot of us don’t know the difference between the benefits of high poly and low poly models.
The criticism that people are throwing on here are as good as it is going to get but I think they expect a well written essay on ways to improve her but fail to realize they are the ones who are the experts in their field and we can’t write something on par to what they want. We are just the judges of the product and people on here telling us to not leave our thoughts, to just drop it and be quite, fail to realize that this is a feedback forum. If you watch the original Double Helix documentary videos you would hear the developer saying that he wanted us to leave feedback. He didn’t want us to be quiet and just “agree to disagree”. Every single complaint went straight to the developers phone and they read them. If Double Helix ignored all the feedback and just said “This thread has run its course” they wouldn’t have built the game we see today.
Anyways, it doesn’t matter since this topic will close in a few hours.
Sadly, this is why people only judge thing son the outside.
What was shown was a season 3 Dev build.. meaning..not final release. As for reflections n all that.. many reason for leaving out elements and engine/memory limitations.. plus time and money. Being all hard up about a non AAA game not comparing to the likes of MK and SF is stupid
lol well yeah that’s sort of the point of what I said. People who are watching streams or Max’s youtube videos can’t experience how awesome the game feels so that’s when visual presentation has the most impact on people who haven’t played the game. Some people only play characters based on looks. I mean Akuma is nearly identical in terms of gameplay with other Shoto characters but his looks pretty much make him his own.
We see plenty of great posts on here and elsewhere with well-thought out perspectives on KI that don’t go into the esoteric language of game development.
We don’t care if you can’t specifically say “hey, the shader or lighting or physics or…” but we do care about framing and approach - put things in context if possible; when it happens; where; what’s different or not when you see it or don’t; information that helps us hone in on the issue you’re expressing concerns on.
Additionally, you get better results if you talk to us like a rational person that is standing right in front of you, not screaming anonymously across the internet. Would you walk up to someone on the street and use the words and tone to them that the TC did in the OP and subsequent posts?
Why say it that way to us, then?
