Kim Wu reveal is a concerning matter

This thread kinda makes my head hurt.
Whole lot of the usual “if you like (X) then you’re just a sheep” vs “if you don’t like (X) you’re just a hater” sort of arguments that go down virtually all over the internet when it comes to any sort of debate.

I’m going to lay out some stuff.
Is the face functional? Yes. Eyes nose and mouth are all in the right places doing their usual thing, and they animate fairly well during her dialogue.
Does it look good? Entirely subjective, but just looking at the design it looks like the effort is there.
Could it be improved? Sure. Some texture work, smooth out the edges a bit, and it will probably look perfect.
Will the overhaul need to be drastic? No. It’s the way her face looks, it just could use some extra fidelity.
I don’t think it was in this thread, but when I see something like “I don’t like her skin color, make her lighter”" it sounds… Well…

Does it ultimately matter though? Well, like many have said, she’s still under development, and there’s still at least a month left. Characters have been reworked in less time. Remember when we didn’t like Omen’s mask? They changed it within a week.

In short: I think it looks good as is. It could stand to be improved as far as texture, but as far as animation and uniqueness from the other girls in the cast, it’s pretty great for a WIP.
Whether it does or doesn’t change, though, its not going to matter too much to me. I’m going to be focused more on gameplay than anything else. Her design as a whole is what we’re going to be seeing, and as a whole she’s a great modernization of the character.

There will be people who like her design.
There will be people who dislike it.
Death and taxes will still be happen in equal share.
Men will be substantially less likely to get pregnant than women.

Gonna go ahead and peace out of this thread now. Hope things are a bit more civil from here on out, maybe less “THIS SUCKS” or “IT’S PERFECT” and a bit more “Here’s what I like” and “Here’s what I think could be improved.”

Ridiculous. You know full well that none of us would accept that at all. This does nothing to prove your point, but instead only reveals your lack of perspective.

In addition, while it is important that IG/MS do what they can to please us, I also believe that they give their all to create to the best of their ability for their own passion and pride. I feel their previous work on KI shows that.

Criticism is fine, even helpful when constructive. I have no problem with people criticizing KI if it helps make it better. Seriously. I’m okay with your opinion being different than mine. However, just saying something sucks or looks like crap isn’t constructive. It literally offers nothing of value from which to work. If you criticize, be specific and coherent. Most importantly, don’t be a jerk to those who don’t agree or those who are creating.

Seriously. I took no issue to you criticizing what you saw, but instead took offense to the elitist, intentionally divisive remarks made about those in the community who don’t agree with you.

Finally, while we’re on the topic of criticism benefitting the game, the same applies to encouragement and affirmation. Those “yes men” as you put it are just as important when it comes to the game’s community growth and awareness.

I love this game, but there’s plenty of people already praising it.

I only speak of what I dislike. Because I want it changed.

If I don’t speak about something, you can almost be assured I love it.

I always complain about Omen, Maya’s animations, TJ’s looks, Kim’s face, retro costumes… it’s the things I dislike.

Most of the rest of the game I love, take it for granted.

But the things I don’t like… I’ll be all over the place

think of me as a KI SJW lol.
I’ll find something to complain and if it gets fixed I’ll jump to something else. :smiling_imp:

I’m honestly the polar opposite of this… I think the game is perfect as long as there is love going into the game (community support, tournaments and seasonal updates are examples)

And I’m like Extremely naive (not just with KI either) to problems that other people see and I…Guess.. I just don’t see it…

Not saying that your bad it’s just and observation. I must be the worst fan…

Its still a question of how you present your opinions. Lots of people offer good, constructive criticism. But that’s not what happened to start this thread.

I’ve been watching the S3 exhibition footage on Max’s YouTube channel and I still think Kim Wu looks good. I think her face looks good in profile, I like her animations and her overall design. I think the stage is gorgeous as well.

The one thing I notice that some people have pointed out is that, although the dragons themselves look good there is something not quite right about the way they move with her. There is an up down delay, but they seem to go left and right with her immediately. I don’t know if it’s because they are a little far away from her, so it seems like they are just swimming around rather than swimming around Kim Wu so that it seems unnatural when they move with her. Maybe it would seem more natural (and look cool as heck) if they hugged closer to her and swam around her arms and legs. Or, maybe just a little more of a weighty delay in their keeping up with her. But I would guess that they might play around with that - and it’s a minor detail anyway.

That’s how products and services get better. If they don’t, people simply stop buying (playing) them.

Having looked at things again, the “puffiness” problem I had with her face looks like it’s specifically related to stage lighting causing some odd shadows during her intro, which is why I didn’t see it outside of the intro.

The only other thing I’d like to see them adjust on her would be to reduce some of the visual effects on some of her moves and to change the way the dragons appear/orbit.

I agree for the most part.

That’s generally how the internet works, online forum communities always seem to have a lot of hate and complaining but that’s only because the people who are unhappy come online to voice their concerns while the people who are content with the game are to busy playing it to be bothered to post in the forums.

People who are unhappy are also busy playing the game. They are unhappy with elements of the game, not the entire game.

That is true, But you must remember that Adam Isgreen said in an interview that Kim Wu was finished, And that was before her trailer was shown.

All this talk about how I go about saying this or that, or what words I use. Listen in the end you all know what I mean and I’m voicing my opinion but you have hyper-sensitive people that nit pick at words but don’t look at the real issue that we are voicing our concerns on Kim Wu’s look which isn’t on par, that is all. Maybe it stings to others so in retaliation you attack what words I use but my message is there and you get it.

@BigBadAndy

You say I start this thread poorly? there is no constructive criticism? So you are basically telling me watch how I talk? Dude, this is me talking I’m not here bashing or threatening anyone. I’m speaking passionately that is how I am. If I simply make a list: Bad Face, Bad textures, Bad design etc. It doesn’t represent anything except a list of things I don’t like but I am actually articulating the very thing you are accusing me of not doing. You simply don’t like my tone and straying away from the real issue. You defending glaring issues and attacking people trying to bring out issues loud and clear passionately as I do just makes it come off as though you are trying to be the White Knight to IG. We are mostly adults here I presume so please stick to the subject.

I brought up points about lighting, textures, the situation that it is in a month before launch, asking if this is confirmed to be her final build - (no official response) VO, fluidity etc. through out the whole thread.

The forums are here to voice our concerns, wants, likes/dislike. That is the point to having the forum. The forum isn’t for people to zone in on those who you don’t like their tone. Why hasn’t IG suspended me if I’m such a jerk according to you

I’m tired of typing the same thing myself… She was obviously Beta… Why anyone would think that they revealed a finished product is beyond me… If that was it as far as the final Kim, then they might as well have released her now… The obvious proof is Rash, We had Rash, we played Rash, but we did not play The rash we saw at KIWC… From the beginning, the finished character always drastically surpassed and out did, even the version we saw in Trailers, they always went back and fine tuned everything to near perfection, so I don’t know why everyday someone new posts the same old complaints… SMH annoying at best

LMAO!!! That one made me cry! LOL!

NOTHING, nothing in your original post shows that you are really passionate about this! Its infuriating to read such an opening post. At best you listed stuff that might look a bit off. Aside from that, you’re simply bashing IG/MS.

No, really. How do you arrive at the conclusion that they’re under perfoming when they have;

Released an early and clearly not up to date build
In said build, you praise Rash (the finished product with a lot of detail)
Witness TJ Combo’s transformation

You have the chance to give constructive criticism and this is how you do it??

Lets see what you have to say

>Movement
Have you seen the character in action? If so, what are your suggestions to improve this? Is she too stiff? Too fluid? What’s making her animation lacking and which animations are you referring to? Is it her standing state? Is it her nun chuck attacks?
>Modeling
What are you suggestions to fix this? Is her anatomy incorrect? Does her hair need work? Does her face need work? If so then how? Should her eyes be widen? Should her face be less round? How do they fix this problem? Do they change her face completely? What makes Kim wu look un attractive or off?
>Textures
As I’ve said before Explain yourself. :expressionless:
>Lighting
As I’ve said before Explain yourself. :expressionless:
>Physics
Puddles with no splashing
You could simply tell them to add slashing

When you say not up to part with today’s standards, what are you referring to? Kim wu or the entirety of KI? Cause the most logical thing to claim would be that its not up to KI’s standards (that way we have a bar that has been set). If that’s the case, you should wait till she’s been polished.

Say it with me now guys

A. Point out the problem
B. Explain why you think its a problem
C. Give a solution, suggestion

Don’t go crying THIS IS BAD BADBADBABDABADBADBADBADBABDABDABD

No one knows what to do when you do this facepalm.

Face: needs textures like how they improved TJ. Better expression, softer features.

Hair: needs more work, it looks pasty

Movement: Needs to be more fluid, she is too stiff in her walk and stance, even her strikes look somewhat stiff and I’ll throw in the physics too where things don’t seem to react properly to hit detection.

Nunchaku: Glow too much, they should remove the glow altogether because especially when she has the Dragons, there is too much light saturation on her and her strikes. You barely see her weapon because all you see is light. The natural twirl of the Nunchaku is way better.

What I mean by standards is of today and what other KI characters look way better. She is not there yet like the rest of the cast. But I would also put better fluidity and movement for the walk and idle of TJ and Maya (they are still stiff looking)

There we go. Now, if you could put that in a constructive Kim wu feed back thread (if it exist) and have this one locked it would save IG a lot of time and it will be a lot more easier to find it.

I wasn’t going to post in here because of the vitriolic OP and subsequent posts, but because the TC finally posted (some) things that were actually constructive after a thread of 100+ posts, I’ll respond.

To address:
First, how about we agree to disagree with other posters? Calling people sheep, yes-men, or all the other things mentioned in here because they don’t agree is silly and juvenile. People have opinions. Respect that not everyone has yours, and be an adult about it.

Part of this is from the new lighting engine, as we’re not done lighting all the stages and characters. It can cause weird shadows and skin tones at times. Notice in profile she looks fine.

Her facial animations in intro/outro are WIP. Hair and earrings aren’t simming (being effected by physics) enough in many moves.

Not constructive. Be more specific.

Kim’s stance is part homage to Bruce Lee. He fights with a stiff back most of the time. That said, we are looking at loosening her up in forward / back movement (head especially)

They only glow when instinct is ready to use, as others pointed out already.

Here’s a mantra that I like to use in my daily life: ASSUME GOOD INTENTIONS

The development team is well aware of where characters are (or aren’t) in terms of look and play, likely to a level of detail that many people will never even notice. Politely pointing out the things you catch is great. Assuming we don’t want quality is simply incorrect.

Remember, we’re a “game in motion”.

Thanks for the (finally somewhat constructive) feedback.

Setting this topic to auto-lock in 24 hours. I think it has run its course.
