Honestly I share @OlafBludhaven 's ideals when it comes to this game. It doesnt really belong in other games nor would a “crossover game” work. MKvKI and SFvKI would both crash and burn just as hard as any other fighting game crossovers. Guest characters are…less than savory in my opinion. But in my desperation and fear i looked to the trailers and content for S3 and saw Rash and Arbiter in action. I love them. I have a lot of fun with Arbiter and main him. I suck ■■■ at this game but there is no way any company could make Killer Instinct mashup with any game. Let alone MortalKombat. Even StreetFighter would be just bad. To even try. Think about it from a game standpoint. all of these games are completely different from the play-style to the art-style. There is just no way. It would be worse than the Arkham Knight port. It would flop harder than that ET game that was set to launch on the NES. its just not feasible. Its not even flupping qualifiable
As long as it’s not made by NRS, I’d love it. Would be awful if NRS stopped 2 whole years of proper MK developing for a (probably nonsense) crossover game.
MK vs DC was bad, really bad. Theyvwent in the rightbdirection when they decided to do a just DC game (injustice) but with soooo many characters that DC has we got scorpion as dlc.
If there was a KI Vs MK and the roster was limited to 14 characters,7 per franchise, who would would be in your line up.

If they did this: IG should handle the core gameplay and netcode, NRS should handle other content like story mode, costumes, towers…pretty much all the extra fluff they’re good at.
And no fatalities…instead have Ultimates: highly entertaining brutally violent (but not gory) endings…see boss Shago’s Ultimate for reference…since it’s about the only reference you can go off of …
…but yeah, no Jago getting his lungs pulled out of his butthole or Kim Wu’s face being sliced off…that just sounds wrong even typing it out…

If they keep KI’s energy & spectacle in game, I think it would still make a fun and exciting game and wouldn’t need gore but pour on the violence. I’m not talking about them pulling out another MK V DC…that game started out bad, and it was obvious they were struggling to figure out how to do finishers when they had DC looking over their shoulder saying nope to their heroes doing anything gory. But then Injustice came around out of that and the game works fine without fatalities.
& that’s what I’m saying. Give them finishers akin to Shago’s Ultimate or Injustice’s super moves…let a match end on a grand finish…just leave out the gore.
Examples: (dynamic camera angles on all of these, I might add)
Glacius slowly forms an ice tomb…similar to Aganos’ stage ultra.
Scorpion: Pulls off his mask, stabs his opponent with a sword, spews fire on them, opens a portal to the netherrealm, and gives an overhead swing that throws them in.
Sadira: wraps her opponent up in webs and her big ■■■ spider shows up & drags them off.
Thunder: he either summons a flock of crows or lightning.
Fulgore: either his KI1 or KI 2 ender where he transforms and shoots them.
Raiden: Reaches up to the sky, camera pans to sky where lightning is flashing all around, then a bolt comes down, hits his hand, he forms it into a ball in his hands, and throws it, electrocuting his opponent in a shower of particles.
Riptor: Have a scene similar to the “clever girl” scene in Jurassic Park where several Riptors attack in a pack. Actual attack shown off screen, similar to her ending animation now.
Keep in mind these are just some ideas I’m coming up with off the top of my head…I’m sure they could come up with something better.
I get it…but I’m a mortal kombat fan. Mortal Kombat fans like fatalities…that’s not an easy decision to make.
Right, & I understand. But I think a lot of the issue is with there being a bad example people can look to in MK v DC. But it’s obvious with how they’ve handled Injustice they’ve learned from their mistakes, and personally I feel like they could manage not having gore rather well and still make a satisfying experience.
Ignoring my bias against MK, I don’t think it’ll work. KI has a unique combo system, whereas MK has its dial a combo system. Since only one model can be used, lots of fans may not bother with the game if it doesn’t suit their preference.
Second of all comes the story mode. This is mainly preference, but some people may not like/care about a story mode in fighters. It would suck if story got priority over other things like online performance and game balance (this is directed at broken characters like Tanya and the horrible netcode up until a whole year after MKX’s release). If the story were like MK’s cinematic stories, then, in my opinion, there would be no replay value. I would rather focus on gameplay that keeps me playing over some cheesy story like MKX’s underdog teens beating a fallen god because of some cliche “I get strong when people I love are in danger” theme.
Another fear of mine is the game not being supported. NRS usually stops supporting their games after about a year, and I fear that could happen.
Well, overall, I just don’t like the way NRS handles their games, and KI and MK focus on two different aspects (combo system and story, respectively). I would rather the two games stay away from each other.
What I’m saying is. Is not that I don’t think they CAN DO IT. Is that part of why MK VS DC was a failure is that MK IS BUILT ON GORE. That’s like a KI game WITHOUT COMBO BREAKERS. Will the MK community want to play a game that appeals more to a KI audience? In games it could work, but if doesn’t sell they it will fail.
I dont want WB to have any influence on KI.
It would be terrible. Combat systems completely unalike. It might sell well, but I have no interest.
- Use the UE4 engine
- Have a mode where it plays like a KI game
- Have a mode where it plays like a MK game
- Be the first fighting game in history to support two entirely different game mechanics with the same characters.
Microsoft should fund this right now for the scorpio launch.
Then we can have a tournament for each style! Meaning 2 tournaments for 1 game!
I have the exact same idea, where Killer Instinct VS Mortal Kombat has retro graphics, sprites directly ripped from KI 1 & 2(GOLD), and MK 1-3, actual stage selection, and the option to switch between the MK and KI announcers and character select music. In fact, have u ever heard of MUGEN?
