I remember loving s1’s dark, brooding overall look. Reminded me of a Todd McFarlane type of art style. Glad it’s coming back.
I don’t know what I’m getting in KI S3. Cautious optimism is fine and fair, but I don’t think you can speak for the entirety of a playerbase when you say ‘we.’
What’s interesting is that they didn’t even have to divulge anything about how many stages there are at this time. They could’ve just said “All S1 stages, all S2 stages, and “ALL” S3 STAGES have this lighting. Yay! Be happy, guys! New lighting!”
Knowing this is a strong topic, they could’ve announced this later on stream with Keits immediately giving reasons why. Instead, it’s kinda just thrown into some good news as an aside with no reasoning to soften the blow, while defending it adamantly.
It seems really weird compared to how they’ve previously released information.
Great scott you have a point
I am happy. Because we get new lighting. They are just stages!
That’s fair. We don’t all have the inside information.
But it does seem like a pretty serious load drop, you know? Without much other information on S3 (aside from things we were expecting were part of the workload, like rebalance and new characters), we have no idea why suddenly this is too herculean of a task for the developers.
Telling the fans “you don’t have all the information as to why we made this decision” doesn’t really make them feel any better.
Even just saying something like “adding new stages is an exponential thing now. Our game already has a high saturation of stages to characters, and the cost of a stage is huge. The exponential cost finally caught up to us, and in order to release a large number of diverse characters, which is our #1 priority for this game and always will be, we sadly had to sacrifice some stages to keep the quality high.”
I don’t even know if that above statement is true, but if it’s not, you should replace it with a version that is. Give us a bit of insight into why the decision was made. Fans will still be sad, but they’ll probably be less angry.
Fulgore’s stage was really cool in S1 XD
Very! Happy that my 2 favorite characters are coming along with more.
Happy that we get new lighting and graphics for KI to look Great!
Happy that we get all new balances for the characters and such.
New UI.
New Themes! Costumes! Accessories!
3 Stages only is not enough to kill my hype!
S3 LET’S GO!
Yeah agreed. They destroyed the good news about the lighting by just dropping that bomb at the end. The lightning is being overruled by the only 3 stages news.
I’m very happy as well! I’m just looking at all the possibilities S3 could hold ![]()
I’m excited about new, return characters and accessories! But Tusk, Gargos, Eyedol and new characters won’t get stages…
I am happy about new lighting too. But what about stages?
Curse you Kan-Ra XD
How much season 3 will cost? 10 dollars??
Now THAT is deceiving, don’t you think?[quote=“LeoFerreis, post:165, topic:5032”]

The later we hold on to something like this, the worse it becomes. But to the next point, you were literally reading one of, if not the biggest reason as to why that choice was made. Actually the entire article sets it up.
If your trade off consists between cutting characters or cutting stages you are developing your frigging game wrong.
I’m not saying it is the actual case, but your example implied that.
who in their right mind trades new content for lightning changes? I feel this is a knee jerk move to update the look of the game to compete with SFV, because new players will be satisfied with 20 stages. But the fans who have been here since season one and expect one stage per character , ah, those can go f… themselves off.
I would like that.
@rukizzel Here’s a legitimate gripe that I have with the new lighting. In fighting games, I feel as if that when playing it’s important to be able to distinguish the characters from the background. I know Sadira’s stage isn’t the best choice to show ‘moodier’ lighting, but how will IG/MS circumvent the potential in visual issues? To be able to distinguish attacks and setups from the ground.
I know @TempusChaoti is a fighting game buff: Remember In Vampire Savior how Jedah had stage advantage by setting up his command grab, because the floor was really really red and that same grab setup is red? Making it difficult to distinguish the grab to avoid? KI’s new lighting engine won’t run into that issue?
I mean, look at the old-versions of Sadira’s stage with the characters – while low quality, Sadira’s body and Wulf’s body is completely standing out for better visibility. With the new engine it looks kind of naturally blurred together.
Maybe I need to see it in motion. I know Kim Wu’s stage looks fine to distinguish the characters from the stage, but Shago’s stage if that post on the KI Twitter means anything looks kind of tough to see Shago.
but again… how does relighting sell someone on S3?
it’s a universal thing, not S3 dependent.
Ah, my fault @CriticalSix4677. Didn’t mean to add you to a reply string. :x
