If You Could Nerf One Character

I’d say remove fulgore from the game, he’s been nerfed like 6 times since s3 dropped and you people still think he’s OP despite nobody using him…

You should really ask @STLemonHunter to play a set with you @Paramisery. I feel like you’re missing some steps in terms of how dangerous Fulgore can be both offensively and defensively.

Playing a really good specialist can help out a lot with that; give you some additional perspective on how you can handle certain situations.

Funny you say that, I spoke with him the other day and while he was more optimistic than me, he didn’t disagree with anything I said.

I dunno. You seem very stuck on this idea that Fulgore isn’t really that good - I know for a fact that Lemon’s perspective on that does not align with your own (obligatory apologies if I’m misstating your opinion).

Is Fulgore OP? Nah, I don’t think so. But he’s still very, very strong, and undoubtedly still in the running for a Top 5 character.

Well, here’s my perspective.

Yes, I acknowledge that the character was definitely the best.

Since S3, Damage was nerfed, reactor speed was nerfed, fireball and laser damage was further nerfed, reactor speed was nerfed further for teleports, then instinct was changed to no longer give meter. Yes while it does let me pip cancel for free during it, they also removed pip cancelling laser into fireballs and it STILL destroys my reactor speed to use it, so when its over I’m guaranteed to not have meter.

I lose frustrating matches now.

I no longer see any pros using fulgore.

I still see people complain about him, but nobody seems to be using him.

I admit he’s probably in a good place as far how often he can pip cancel into mix ups now, however, the way he was nerfed means that he no longer can reliably EVER count on having meter to shadow counter or use a shadow move. As I’ve stated before, it would’ve been far smarter to increase the cost of his pip cancels, but to leave his reactor speed alone, but whatever, it is what it is.

The way I see him now, the fact that he has a DP is the ONLY thing keeping him good. Take that away from him and he’s a complete joke. Half the cast has mix ups as good as he does now, and they have normal meter gain.

No, my precious experiment

When did you ever see pros using Fulgore though? Honest question. In S1 you had Alex Valle and Rico, and in S2 you had Nicky and Rico. And now in S3 you have Nicky and Rico (he still pulls him out on occasion), with additional random showings from Grief and Cupcake. Fulgore has never been a particularly prevalent character, even when he was super ridiculous.

Unless you hit the opponent? I dunno man, I play a really mean Hisako, but even against me I expect to see at least two shadows from Fulgore even if I win, and probably 3 or 4 if the fight isn’t exactly going my way…

Okay, then you know what? Fine, you’re right, I’m done arguing. Fulgore is still OP, he could be nerfed 100 more times and he’d still be OP. Rico didn’t use him at KIWC, nicky used mira more than fulgore and KIWC, but I’m wrong, they both definitely still represent fulgore. Give me that kappa face, I deserve it for being frustrated when i use a character that’s clearly too good.

I really never wanted to be one of those guys who posted about quitting, but I clearly have no business playing this game if this is the response I get for losing and getting frustrated with a character that’s clearly better than everyone else’s.

The kappa wasn’t for you @Paramisery - I was poking fun at @SonicDolphin117 for the steady erosion of his thread (I consider him a friend, so just joshing him).

It’s not my intent to push you away from the game or to make you feel bad for using or losing with Fulgore - my only goal is to try to provide some perspective on his tools as I understand them and to direct you to players like Lemon who can maybe help you utilize his toolset to the fullest.

If I’m coming across as overbearing then I apologize however - that certainly was not my intent. I’ll refrain from posting further on the matter.

Its fine, I really don’t enjoy the game anymore. Its genuinely not fun to never have meter. I understand that fulgore needed nerfs, but where he is now is just awful and its even more frustrating that people don’t see it. And I don’t want to speak entirely for Lemon, but what I took away from our conversation was that even though he’s a hell of a lot more optimistic than me, he’s pretty much done with the game when Tekken 7 comes out.

I agree but if they could give him meter again they would have to decrease his damage output I think.

Resource management is hard, I will agree.

@Paramisery @STORM179 one thing I should say about our discussion though is that I don’t have very strong opinions (or don’t express them correctly) about tiers and balance though. Which is the reason I didn’t speak on the dealing with pressure thread and usually don’t speak on the “who’s top 5” types of discussions.

I do think fulgore is a strong (and fun. At least for me) character to play. Nowadays I try to prioritize meter gain quite a bit, and take the damage instead of the setup a bit more often.

Sorry if I didn’t express myself correctly when we talked about this, but it’s not quite true. I’ll try out T7 because I think it looks pretty fun, cool, and that it’ll help me learn more about fighting games. But 2D fighters are my bigger interest and more specifically KI and maybe (hopefully) a sequel to it.

Let’s play sets sometime Para, playing and exchanging some thoughts would be more effective than party chat imo

Also, my condolences to @SonicDolphin117’s experiment

its already been decreased 3 times! How about revert spin speed back to what it was at the start of s3 and increase the cost of pip cancels. That way he still can’t go nuts with pip cancelling, but at least he can use shadow moves again.

Uh…it never changed.

Are you talking about instinct?

the amount of spin speed reduction for using energy moves was increased, and then they later further increased the reduction for using teleports. On top of that (like you said) you no longer get spin speed for instinct, and actually still do damage to your spin speed for using your “free” pip cancels during it.

So maybe I spoke incorrectly, the spin speed itself has stayed the same, but the amount of damage you do to it for using your energy moves has been increased multiple times.
