Hisako Matchup Thread: Jago

Of course, you have to adapt yourself to the opponent, and if he know the MU, Sabrewulf won’t rush you down like he usually does BUT If you don’t abuse catch-counters… he will.

i wanna know how all of spinal’s pokes seem to beat everybody i use lol. i swear trying to hit this guy in neutral is borderline suicide for me because the spinal will just tap his medium punch or whatever other button and im combo’d.

as for wulfs, ill counter the crap out of the dumb ones. but its the smart ones we’re trying to learn how to beat better, the ones who know that you’re gonna do it

Cast your votes! That way we can keep this thread on topic and discuss other MUs at great length! :grinning:

What do you guys usually do against a blocked wind kick. I find it frustrating I’m eating a lot of dp. If I backdash I get hit by the DP, if I block I get thrown.

Unless it’s a heavy wind-kick, I wait/keep blocking. Light and medium wind kicks are more or less safe, so it becomes a matter of “what are they gonna do next?”.

If you get someone who consistently throws you after blocked wind-kicks, Heavy Influence will beat the throw with its throw-invulnerable frames. Another option is Naginata Normal > ORZ, to begin a combo, since attacks beat throws.

If you get someone who consistently DPs after wind-kick, block it and punish with whatever you’d like. The punish should vary based on the strength of DP they’ve used; variance should also be varied based upon what would be most advantageous for you in terms of spacing/momentum. I have often waited until the exact moment they land, and grabbed them with Influence or Possession. Sometimes I’ll dash under their DP to cross them up and punish while they’re adjusting to the new block direction (especially useful if that will get you out of the corner).

All of this is hypothetical of course; as is the case with Hisako, more often than not, you’re relying on a good read and/or reaction.

If it’s a Heavy wind-kick… that’s unsafe as balls, punish the heck out of it.

Is the OS rekka/counter a good idea against a blocked windsock ?

Throw = Meaty
Dp = Counter
Block = Rekka

Just throwing an idea I’m still not used to do the OS.

I don’t think that’s going to be an option, since Jago’s still on his feet in this scenario. I haven’t tried it, to be honest, but that OS is anchored on the opponent performing actions on their wakeup.

I’m more or less of the opinion that Spinal gets blown up by pretty much the entire cast on wakeup actually. What’s he going to do to you as he’s getting up? Teleport? Command grab his bony ■■■ out of that once or twice and he’ll stop doing it. Possession beats backdash, meaty beats any jump attempt, etc.

She can’t really just cr+LK option select him like most of the cast can (as far as I know), but she has more than enough tools to hurt him as he gets up, and he has no DP to ever make you really regret it. True, she has to make some hard reads on what he’s going to do as he gets up, but she pretty much has to do that anyway. Even the famous meaty->rekka/cancel OS doesn’t catch everything, and if you want to catch those things you’re going to have to take a guess. The important part is that they have to guess too, and their penalty for getting it wrong is generally steeper.

So yeah, I think Hisako bl.ows Spinal up on his wakeup. If him having skulls means he’s likely to try to teleport cancel his way out of knockdown pressure, then use that against him and punish the attempt.

As promised, here’s my match against the 1-star Jago.
Feel free to critique; I can see several mistakes I’ve made already, but I’m always down for feedback and you guys might catch something that I haven’t yet.

Round 1:

Round 2 (far more mistakes on my part):

I can’t see these videos, but, I think I found them on xboxdvr.com :

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Marbledecker/video/10228161 (round 2)

Easier to watch, and you don’t have to upload them on onedrive

edit: reverse the order

Yup, those are the ones!

Thanks! I’m new at this whole “sharing my gameplay” thing. :blush:

EDIT: I was wrong about the link order, the numbered naming convention confused me.

So far, Sabrewulf is in the lead for the topic of the next match-up thread…

Why didn’t you play Thompxson or ..gosh I can’t remember his name, Bill White? Bill something … White something? I don’t remember but he often plays Shadow Jago using Color 2.

I played Thompxson that same night! I opened with a supreme victory, then he won the subsequent two, ending with a supreme of his own. Fun match.

Votes have been cast for Sabrewulf, Cinder, Glacius, Sadira and TJ Combo.

Thanks for the input, team! :smile:

Yeah, I’m the guy who voted for Sadira. I’m very bad and quite green, but from my limited experience online she seems like another one with options I can’t catch counter or outmaneuver. I really appreciate these threads as a rookie Onryo!

I’m happy that you’ve found some value in these threads! All of the matchups that received votes will have threads created before those that didn’t :grinning:

I got a question. Is Hisako’s teleport move (whatever it’s called) is it unsafe? Because I found myself with Jago hitting her out of it most of the time. Because I found that I could hit her sometimes, but I didn’t know if it was just because I was reading the move quicker than her reaction.

You can catch counter all of her cross-up attempts, so just block the medium widow’s bite and mash counter and it’ll work. Because of that though, a lot of Sadira’s will come in empty off their widow’s bites, so be ready for that as well and react accordingly depending on their tendencies. I actually have a lot else to say about that match-up, but for now I’ll just say that your ideal space for that fight is middish to longer range. This is one of the few fights where you shouldn’t have a full wrath bar all that much - use your long air normals to punish Sadira’s attempts to jump in on you. Hisako can control that aerial space in front of Sadira in a lot of the same ways that Glacius can, so use that to your advantage.

Oh goodness yes - descent is wildly punishable in all neutral situations. You can special cancel out of it, so assuming you know what your opponent will do you could theoretically come out on top in all situations, but as you don’t know what your opponent will do in all situations, it’s generally pretty risky. I only recommend using it at pretty particular times, or if you really think you have that read on how they’ll respond to it.

Thanks friend! I’ll be sure to carry this contribution into the Sadira thread! :smiley:
