Hisako Matchup Thread: Jago

It may be a bug I don’t know, but sometimes I press de K counter, and it’s the PPP animation I get. Sometime I press the PPP and still catch-counter an obviously low attack (like Sabrewulf run+LK).

This often happen when I was using Instinct, but it also happened when I was not.

Well, that’s supposed to happen in instinct (that’s one of her instinct’s properties). It’s decidedly not supposed to happened outside of it, however

i fought a pretty decent hisako last night as fulgore. got my ■■■ whooped hard lol. he was hitting me with TK ORZ one after another in instinct lol. i also liked how he was able to influence command grab me, then instead of following up with shadow ORZ or something else, he instead went for another THEN he followed up. i learned something new…

Yeah, Hisako has some of the nastiest throw resets in the game. Once she’s in instinct, it’s not a terrible idea to just hold up as you try to break and everything.

I’ve recently added it to my Hisako game - you can get really stupid damage tossing throw resets at people. It’s also fantastic counter-breaker bait - people tend to get antsy when they’ve got 40% white life flashing through that super long influence animation.

So I earned my first win against a 1-star player last night… and it was a Jago!

I have the match captured, but I still need to edit it and upload it to OneDrive.

I’ll link it for you guys when it’s done!

I also played Thompxson last night, who is a Jago that consistently places at online tourneys. The first of 3 matches was a supreme in my favor; the second match was close, and by the third match he’d downloaded me and returned the favor of my Supreme Victory with his own Supreme Victory. It was a really fun match, and I learned some things.

im still losing a ton of matches due to rust, but my hisako is starting to get back up to speed. i still have such great difficulty landing her influence grabs, if there is one thing i need to fix is that. and i need to start pulling off throw resets and other more advanced stuff. but first things first…need to get back to my former glory.

Influence is definitely suited to specific situations; what makes it more difficult for us, is that each of the 3 versions of Influence are all suited for different situations, so it’s often a matter of picking the right one.

That said, I’d say 65+% of the Influence grabs I land are while I’m applying wakeup pressure.

I’m also able to land a fair few of them dashing up to the opponent after a combo breaker and “Influencing” them as they rise from the ground. Considering that other characters get to land combos after breakers, I find this to be a nice thing to have available.

Are you able to backdash or escape these Grabs, of are they pretty much frame traps?

Any grab from neutral (as opposed to the rare situations that you can grab in a combo, such as after a wallsplat), frame trap or not, can be escaped by nature as it can only hit you when you are out of hitstun/blockstun, meaning if you were, for example, holding up or mashing backdash you would escape every time. I should point out that against Hisako’s possession (which isn’t technically a grab but largely operates in the same way) jumping is preferable to a backdash as you will just get sucked in after the backdash.

@Marbledecker: when are we moving into the next character? These have been interesting threads - it’d be kind of cool to have a list of matchup-specific threads in this sub-forum.

@Marbledecker If you do happen to make another, I have a secret TJ Combo not many people know. I will gladly share knowledge as well.

Omen, Fulgore and Spinal are in my opinion the 3 other really hard match up for Hisako (beside Riptor).

But the matchup you really have to know when you play Hisako in my opinion are “vs Glacius” and “vs Kan-Ra”. Without knowing them you will likely be bodied most of the time and supreme losses will rain on you. But then, if you know what to do, this can change drastically.

Sabrewulf can be very tough, but you can deal with him by abusing catch counters. I love wake up shadow eclypse…

Hey there team! I’ve been indisposed for a few days. I’ll get around to uploading that Jago match very soon.

I’d like to create another matchup thread this week! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the threads thus far… it was totally my intent to have each matchup covered by a thread at some point!

Excellent! This is one of the matchups I feel pretty confident in as Hisako, so I’m sure we’d both have some good thoughts to share!

I definitely plan on creating that thread sooner than later. That’s my pocket character, so I’ll hopefully have some good info to contribute!

I can totally agree with this… I find that I either do really well in these MUs, or I get absolutely murdered. It’s totally worth it for us to explore those MUs in depth.

I also definitely agree with Fulgore and Spinal being rough for Hisako. A string of my recent losses against them is getting reviewed in replay as soon as I can get a little free time.

abusing counter against smart wulf isnt a good idea. they’ll bait it and just throw you all day lol. but yeah i look forward to seeing what you have for me as far as info marble. wulf was my starter character, and he has now become my bane. i think i am going to learn him…

Huh. I actually think she does pretty well against Spinal - she kinda obliterates him on knockdown. She doesn’t have too much to help deal with his vortex though, so it can definitely get kinda nasty if Spinal grabs the momentum.

I think she also does fine against Fulgore, if Fulgore isn’t playing super keepaway. I ran into @MrHero0fTime a week or two ago, and it was absolutely brutal trying to run him down. Hero played super runaway, and after he popped instinct there was simply no catching him as he wasn’t too interested in spending pip cancels after it ended. It was actually very informative, if annoying - I never knew Fulgore’s medium laser had that much pushback. I’d actually love to run that match again with Hero at some point over a longer set - I’m curious to see if there’s a way to cr.ack (really censors? Really? :unamused: ) that that I simply missed over the standard first to 2 Killer rules.

Super excited to hear more of your thoughts about these MUs in their respective threads!

But it works REALLY well against a dumb Wulf. Really a whole lot, hehe.

Definitely going to be discussing this MU sooner than later.

What MU would you guys like to discuss in the very next thread?

  • TJ Combo
  • Glacius
  • Kan-Ra
  • Spinal
  • Sabrewulf
  • Aria
  • Omen
  • Sadira
  • Thunder

Fulgore has teleport, projectiles, lasers, can grab from miles away… he has everything to annoy Hisako.

I am probably missing something against Spinal too, because “oblitarates him on knockdown”? I never did that to a Spinal with at least one skull…
