In truth, Glacius mains would benefit from the Xbox Elite controller as you can set the paddles underneath to punch buttons of which will allow you to do fancy Hail setups.
Triple hail might not even be all that common if each additional hail adds 25 frames to the startup; and you may find that (even when you do triple-hail) you basically never have to hold both light and medium hail whilst letting heavy hail fly, so you can just tap one of the face buttons and then hold the other.
I suspect that double hail will be the most frequent application by far.
I agree, double hails should be enough as they are. You can go for a setup and keep your defense.
Guess I’ll put these extra button to use on the elite controller
Probably the biggest change will be hail doing 50% less damage.
Since Glacius can put out more, this is hardly going to be an issue. Simply because it’s used as a keep away tool. As a zoning character this will not even phase him.
But for those who have to get in, this will hurt alot.
I get why they did it. However, I think, in practice, you won’t be afforded time for many multi-hail setups in most of his matchups anyway. Honestly, I think the most significant change will be hail staying off screen.
not really you jus tgotta tap a button and you’ll form another hail, it’s not that different from Fulgore being able to fire different fireballs at different speed.
It’s not a matter of execution; it’s a matter of time. There aren’t many matchups that will allow you the time needed to perform multiple hails without being punished.
Also to keep in mind, if you opt to use multiple hails, you severely limit your other tools (ice lance and shatters associated with those buttons).
You don’t have to hold them in some cases to keep them at bay. For guys like Cinder you can hit him out by just throwing different hail around, he won’t be able to dodge all of it. and if you need some defesive maneuvers one hail should be good enough.
As for Sabrewulf just the let the hail fly in different spots you’re not gonna miss if ya do it right.
Really when it comes to just throwing the hail you’ll certainly have a great advantage. And don’t forget, you also get:
a better mobile puddle move for escape, a homing puddle punch in Instinct mode to name a few.
Glacius is probably going to be the toughest opponent for rushdowns unless ya got shadow meter to get through some projectiles.
Obviously Glacius won’t be invincible, but that doesn’t mean he won’t even stronger.
As someone who’s fought Glacius on several occasions he was already pretty strong to begin with in my perspective, now he’ll be even tougher, with new challenges abroad.
If anything you don’t have to take advantage of those new tools if ya don’t want to, or just use them in a way that fits you. The lack of damage justifies Glacius being MUCH harder to at a range a rushdown can benefit from.
I’m not speaking to all of that. Like I said, I know why they changed it, and I’m well aware of the tools he will have. I main him, so it’s in my interest to know.
Holding hail is one thing, but it’s not even what I’m talking about. Multi hail requires your commitment up front. If I choose to do two hail, that roughly 60+ frames. That’s not even practical in many matchups, and I limit myself to one range for shatter should I choose to hold them.
I’m not saying he’ll be awful, just that I think many are overestimating him during a period where people are largely unfamiliar with the nuances of his changes. Once people acclimate to the changes, I get the feeling they won’t be as effective as people think they are.
I tend to agree with @Zcythe on this one. It actually takes a lot of time to summon multiple hails - your opponent will either have to be really far away or be nearly blind to not be able to punish the attempt. The punish will necessarily be limited sometimes due to the hail coming out as a de facto combo breaker, but there’s more than enough time to land at least that first hit.
Offscreen hail is going to be super annoying, but calling multiple hails in pure neutral situations is going to be tough for the most part I think.
that is to be expected in some cases, but in a few other match-ups alot of his easier ones, will be MUCH easier.
But I also think Glacius isn’t suddenly going to have more trouble just because of the new move and the lower damae.
Just to throw my two cents in - I suspect single hail will continue to be the most frequently used tool, followed distantly by double and almost never will you see a triple hail setup in a real match. You pretty much need the other guy to be hanging out all the way across the screen hiding from heavy shatter to be able to get those three up in the air. And then you don’t really have much reason to have them up there.
I don’t really worry about the damage nerf to hail because hail is not really a damage generating move for Glacius as it is. It’s just a way of controlling space and preventing crossovers, getting out of combos etc. If they dropped the damage to nothing it probably wouldn’t make much difference. It’s funny, much like with Kan Ra’s scarabs, people worry more about getting hit than about the damage they are actually taking. Hail has always had a disproportionate effect on people’s gameplan compared to the damage.
I’m more interested to see if his new instinct tools are useful, or just cool to look at. I admit that I am still basically a S1 Glacius player. I haven’t really gotten used to using liquidize for anything consistently and I have to get into S3 and actually learn to use his new tools. That is if I’m not too busy playing Tusk…
Just to let y’all know, off the hail ender ( ground bounce ) you can get a free double hail set up everytime.
This is how it works. Do your ender (qcb+hp) and immediately summon the strength of the hail you do not wish to use for the follow up set up. This strength of hail you have no intentions for will hit your opponent off the ground bounce.
As soon as that hail hits, press and/or hold the remaining two strengths in any order. Your opponent will still be recovering.
How does this work out if they have meter?
I can see Glacius getting double hail fairly often, especially at full screen.
well against certain characters this won’t always be the case for Glacius when it comes to meter. Cause well, not everyone’s shadow get in moves are invincible, OR go a full distance.
I think in some match-ups Glacius will easily dominate for this season.
Some more S3 gameplay before the release tomorrow
If they have meter you should probably be prepaired for them to try something to get through to you. in this case I’d wait for a time.
You don’t have to be able to own everything without effort. Just take precautions if they have meter. Otherwise have fun.
Hey wanted to share a new tech with everyone here with Glacius: in Instinct mode, fire up to three (yes you can do this in Instinct mode) fire up to three hail and then use your teleport or cross teleporting puddle punch.
