Glacius S3 Changes

I personally think that reason a bit silly but hey what do i know

I wanted a dash too but this one is useless. Wait until you get a back dash input by mistake you’ll really hate it lol. I do it with aganos all the time!

Let me guess, you use a stick?

I have mixed feelings about Glacius’s changes. It’s clear that all the S1 characters are coming down in damage to match more the S2 model and then more tools are being added or adjusted. This makes play more complicated - which it almost has to be as the game develops. But even so, I may well get left behind.

He clearly got hail buffs, but my hail game is not all that great now. I don’t know if I can deal with managing multiple hails at once. We will have to see.

A lot of his cool buffs are relegated to instinct, which will certainly make me pay more attention to how I manage my instinct meter. I have to say, though, that getting his ā€œteleportā€ puddle punch back is a super cool throwback to the original arcade games that I appreciate greatly.

Nah I use the D-Pad.

in all honesty the one thing i was very much disappointed with was them not saying that puddle punch is no longer able to get grabbed out of or that it acts like a proper anti-air. that teleport punch won’t mean anything if you know the timing and get the random grab that knocks you out of it. as for multi hail one problem. you will never get three out against saber, riptor, fulgore, shago, hisako, and spinal. the better match ups for glacius will be a little bit different now especially since those characters got buffs to get in. sabrewulf already has options to get in on glacius and other zoners now there are a lot better and the same for riptor. it’s not as easy to win these which i find dumb in some cases because in all honesty glacius didn’t get much for his bad match ups. against sadira yes it’s helpful because more hail means more chances to hit her in the air while she’s at a distance but you still lack the proper anti-air to prevent her up-close cross ups. as for spinal it’s strange teleport will still be a problem but i think in all honesty that’s where the dash can come in handy. water horses used light hail and moved forward almost always preventing bass from teleporting in now you have something can probably help with but your opponent can easily make the read and punish you for it which is fair.

so overall i’m about 50/50 with glacius’s changes. one thing i really really wanted was a proper anti-air that was either fast or able to stop cross ups which we didn’t get. i had a feeling that glacius was going to get a multi hail and i knew it might not be all that great (i do love it though because it’s like juri’s basically) however i love the fact that hail stays out there now even off screen which is very nice and it will help if you can get it. what i really really hope though is that iron galaxy realizes glacius needs something to help against cross ups and i really do think that puddle punch can be answer if they allow it to be. The one thing i think they should do to the move is make the heavy one reach farther and heck i would love to see glacius spin when he is doing it. he’d be like I’m a pretty ballerina now and sadira be like AHHHHH LET ME STOMP ON YOU!

Pressure was always supposed to be Glacius’ weakness, and he already has two other amazing anti-airs. Besides, multi-hail can be used to anti-air Sadira and start your offense if you summon them as she’s jumping at you. And if you can’t handle the pressure, just cold shoulder or liquidize out.

Also, I imagine you can get 3 hails off a back-HP. It may leave you negative as your opponent is getting up, but you could just puddle punch as they wake up and it’ll be safe because you have the hails behind you, and the remaining ones can start your offense.

I’m sure that’s great, but now you are holding three buttons and then hitting three more. Ouch! I am not enough of a contortionist to pull that off. Even using the ā€œcheatā€ button it’s going to be an exercise in coordination.

It’ll be something that’ll take time to get used to, but I’m sure it’ll become second nature with enough practice.

Glacius is going to look extra pretty with all those particle effects and projectiles with the new lighting system!

Index, middle, and ring fingers on the three punch buttons and thumb can reach all three kick buttons. The glory of having opposable thumbs!

This post is begging for an ā€œOpposable thumbs Kreygasmā€ follow-up

If you’re playing on pad, though, this is pretty tough.

I think you can use your thumb for LP and MP hail, your index for HP hail (right bumper), and still press cold shoulder with your middle finger (right trigger). If you were only holding two hails, and one of them was HP, you could probably do fine pressing LK or MK for jump-back air attacks and stuff with the other parts of your thumb.

It’s awkward but I think Glacius players will get by.

I always have Cinder to fall back on.

I actually decided to test some ideas just now. Since I’m a pad player, I figured it would be good to find ways to utilize these new tools without splurging on a fight stick I’d only use on one game. Luckily for me I have some pretty big hands and fingers, so with a little work I found a way to hold down one button and still have the dexterity to use another, as well as being able to hold both X and Y with one thumb. It will take some work, but once I can practice messing around with the S3 build of Glacius I should be golden.

I will see what I can do. One of the joys of a low execution game like KI for someone like me, with gaps in their skills, is that often just making the other guy THINK that you can use a tool is good enough to affect his game. I will have to work on a ā€œgood enoughā€ way of faking that I am a master of hail, lol.

With the multi hail can you call it up to 3 times and release them at different intervals? I better get myself an arcade stick or pad

One thing that I think will be worth checking out is if holding the 3P (LB) button then releasing the originally pressed buttons will count as still holding the hails. You would lose access to the final punch button if you were only holding two hails but could hold them both/all with one button. If you wanted to release one at a time you could rehold the button(s) you wanted to keep and release 3P to release the hail(s) that you wanted.

i actually realized that he’ll have one better option out of pressure which is liquidize in instinct but other wise you still don’t have a lot out of pressure and waiting for instinct isn’t worth it. I really think he needs something that makes players fear him on wake up that doesn’t whiff because it gets beat by a lot of things, by teleport or by them just jumping over it like nothing. almost every character has something to get out of pressure is it always safe no of course not but glacius really needs something that doesn’t stink or isn’t very good in a majority of situations. that’s why an anti cross-up version of puddle punch would help. if it still gets beat out by everything that’s fine it would make it like an okay option but make it to where your opponent can’t do a cross up set up on him without making a read would be a lot more helpful in a large amount of his match ups and make it more appealing then just block a hundred times until you get meter or instinct or your opponent messes up. liquidize is easy to follow so it’s not always the best and shoulder rush can help it’s not always the best either.

as for hail probably only 2 hails after a hard knock down your opponent can probably just meter burn through you if you try to go for 3 that’s why i keep saying it’s not that great. TJ combo at full screen rush in with special move that i can’t remember the name of right now roll and grab. jago will have a problem because well the only option he’ll have is dash and meter burn. orchid full screen shadow cat. sabre run in, spinal teleport, sadira oh man that is hard for her but she can probably just dash in and do it like jago, thunder uhh again hard but still not too hard, fulgore teleport, shago his projectiles kill glacius, maya uhh interesting probably roll or throw daggers but hers is now a lot harder to get in probably, kan-ra probably his sand but that match up it’s more about prevention rather then zoning out in which case fix shoulder rush to actually go through swarms because ā€œbuffā€ glacius got barely works. riptor again dash and grab works everytime, omen tricky for both characters. Aganos meter burn, or have chunks and go full screen with it. hisako teleport, aria shotgun knee might work but just depends also her projectile body again kills glacius, cinder rip the dream of getting in on glacius as if it wasn’t hard as it is, rash honestly i haven’t played against him to truly know, and kim wu you play it like you play spinal make them want to take the hail for themselves and punish them for it. literally 3 hail seems to only work on about maybe 5 characters reliably which again proves it’s not too amazing it’s decent but not amazing.

Actually for characters like RIptor, the fastest way to get in, is STRAIGT at you. If you can use your icicle punch and and kicks at her, you can keep her at bay. Plus if you get pressured you can just puddle easy. Your hail will also be good at keeping Riptor at bay since her fast apporach is on the ground, where some of Glaciu’s attacks have a good reach.

If you wanna talk about tougher match-ups, Cinder if anything will have the worst time here against him. since hail can now have so much more. It could get much harder to get close enough to even use fired-up inferno, and considering Cinder’s main tool for mobility has no priority on pretty much ANYTHING you’ll find he’ll be running into your hail much more. Also the hail flying at different speeds can make a difference in how you avoid things. For example, if Sabre’s running at you like the fuzzy cannonball he is, you should fire your medium or heavy hail than your second one will be a light or such, if he dodges one, he’ll run right into the other.

He was already a solid fortress defense in some of his match-ups, if you go for an ā€œanti-cross upā€ he might as well be an impenetrable one. Sure it may make it harder for some match-ups, but much MUCH harder for the ones he can easily beat.

You may have to practice a little bit sure, but what Glacius got, the benefits will do you more good than some in some match ups one of my mains is going to have.
