He’s the only person I’ve heard of who is consistently negative and annoying, the rest are just screen names.
I think we need to, as a community, start exercising our authority to call out toxic people and use mechanisms available on Twitter and Twitch (Blocking and Banning respectively) to deal with them. We’ve proved we aren’t ready for unfettered free speech yet.
I’ll also throw out there that this situation is non-unique to KI, FGCs, or video games in general: this is a problem with the internet as a social platform. A large number of people cannot voice opinions without strong language, and even more cannot resist voicing negative opinions over positive ones. The person with negative things to say is far more likely to post something online than a person with positive things to say.
■■■■■■■■ on something with a few words is a little easier than being polite, a lot easier than coming up with concrete reasons why they dislike something, and infinitely easier than suggesting a way to fix it. The only way to deal with these people is to make sure they’re ignored. If they think their opinion doesn’t matter or won’t be heard in a certain forum, they’ll ■■■■■ about it elsewhere: hopefully somewhere where we won’t have to deal with it.
I agree with @marbledecker that calling out individuals is not helpful. We don’t need a review, a court case and a trial. We just need people to straighten up and fly right. Although I won’t be doing anything that might support people that have demonstrated to me, personally, that they aren’t worth supporting.
I’m not much for issuing open letters but I appreciate the one from 8-bit beat down. Among other things, I think some of those involved have sponsors and their sponsors need to know that they are getting involved in this kind of stuff. So it’s better to make a statement like this and then let the responsible people look into it.
Some people in the community are accusing @ULTRAODINSON of funding S3 with the intention of BRIBING IG and Keits to not touch Fulgore and keep him “OP.”
…
Holy f***ing **** guys, stop being children and looking for reasons other than your own lack of patience to your own troubles.
Very few Fulgore players have consistently done well in tournaments. From what we have seen he is a very solid character, but he is not breaking the game by any means. Especially not on a level where we should be accusing our hard working community members of fraud.
Publicly burning effigies of a streamer or high-profile player who is being toxic in streams is not the way to go; it’s going to prompt further toxicity between those who agree with you and those who don’t and further destabilize the chat.
Like I said before, the proper way (in my opinion) to deal with that kind of behavior is to simply stop following that person, because they’re being selfish and not really supporting the community and its growth. Don’t watch their streams, don’t buy their merchandise, unsubscribe from their channels. In the end, seeing a loss in followers (or income, even) is going to send a much louder message than arguing with them in stream chat.
Hopefully our high profile streamers who want to promote positivism and growth in the community have people that they trust who can be set up as mods in order to make sure that those who are looking to start trouble in stream chats can be silenced or banned as necessary.
I love conspiracy theories. They always throw up this stuff and focus on whether it’s possible without worrying about why they would do it.
First, where is the evidence that Brandon is funding S3? He’s been supporting the game by hosting tournaments and he definitely has been driving the KI World Cup. But he received money from MS to do that last year, in the form of money from the community fund for prizes. Unless the guy is secretly an oil Tycoon, I don’t know that I would bet the returns on running an arcade in San Antonio are going to give you more funds to throw around than Microsoft, lol. Second, why would he want Fulgore to stay OP? The highest profile UA sponsored player has always been Bass. People are complaining that Spinal is no longer viable. Shouldn’t Brandon be bribing Keits to keep Spinal viable? The other big UA player I can think of is MyGod - playing Wulf. Uh… OP Fulgore helps this how?
Some things are so stupid they don’t merit a response.
Okay, I wanna write a huge post about all this later, but you can’t have the “vote with your dollar/viewing habbits” and the “I’m not going to name names” mentality at the same time.
I’m following a LOT of top KI guys, and while there is at least one I unfollowed (you guys were just talking about him), there’s still plenty others I’m watching. You’ve got to at least say who some of these guys are so those who are new to KI know who to avoid. I’m not new to KI, mind you, but I still want to purge all of this.
I think we’re giving some of the old top players too much credit.
Here’s the thing some of the most outspoken “pro” players are no longer pro players- so stop giving them that credit. I strongly feel that’s why they are so loud right now. They’ve failed to adapt and are grasping at straws as to why they can’t compete at a high level anymore. There have been players consistently practicing and leveling up and now they are better than some of these former top players. To me this is clear as day and it’s no surprise that some of the loudest of them are the type of players who have always made excuses for their losses.
I think because of this it’s really frustrating to see that some of these people still have a voice and are actually getting to the Devs. I used to support some of these people with channel subscriptions and what not, but since their toxicity has reached a new high I’ve unsubbed and I’m confident they will fail as “Esport professionals” unless their attitude changes.
There are still plenty of great players out there with great attitudes who have a lot to offer to the game and the community. So we need to do our parts and go support them, make their voices be the ones that are being heard.
There was only one more prominent player in the chat who was stirring up trouble that has not been mentioned already. All the other quotes are just random people.
If you want me to send you a message with the name, sure. But I feel like putting out names would not only hurt the credibility of my own statements, but also narrow the mindset of the KI Community when this problem is very broad.
I know what I just said makes no sense, but that’s the best way I can say it.
Though maybe I can list a few people who are defending the game: @UABass, GutterMagic, NervousNick, HKSmash
It’s a great post. And not to argue, just to clarify, I don’t think it’s about defending the game so much as conducting yourself in a classy way and trying to be a positive force in the community rather than just scrounging for buffs/nerfs so you can win the next tournament.
I don’t think it needs to be said outright that they weren’t referring to “everyone” in the community. No one is lumping you in with the bad eggs just by using that word. The actions of the community were disgraceful. You weren’t there, you weren’t causing the problem, so by extension, they don’t mean you.
I totally get why you’d be put off by the use of the blanket term “community” here, since you (and I) consider ourselves a part of the community, but I really don’t see the need for mincing words, in this particular situation.
They don’t need to couch their statements with “I know it’s not everyone and there’s some really awesome people here but…” We all know that already. Or “the actions of the few bad apples on that stream” since there’s really no need to single anyone out and even saying a few bad apples downplays the incident and implies that this isn’t an issue the whole community should be aware of when it most certainly is.
So I can see why they addressed the whole community. I’m sure there were people spreading negativity, people egging them on, and people being silent about it and not speaking out against it. It’s an incident that warranted further conversation and I feel like they addressed it as such.
This is just pathetic. If anyone really believes this to be the case, then 1. You can pick up Fulgore too (bet those moustache twirling devs didn’t see THAT coming!) but also 2. If you honestly think the developers are doing this, then I have a tin foil hat that just might fit you, but most importantly 3. Why would you play a game that you think the developers intentionally balance incorrectly?
Go. Fly, little bird. Fly back to the loving embrace of Ken, Ryu, and burly Zangief, with his hulking muscles and bristly beard. I’m not kidding, if you think the developers are taking bribes, then you don’t believe in the integrity of this game’s balance or the people that work hard to create and maintain it. So go somewhere that you feel does right by you and stop polluting our ecosystem and impugning the good names of the people that make it possible.
i dont understand the sudden and serious need to get fulgore nerfed lol. ok so 1 guy is good with him as a pro? nicky does well with fulgore and he showcases just what the murder bot can do…which is clearly murder.
to my knowledge, overall, fulgore has a small playerbase compared to the rest of the cast. on paper he has it all, but putting it into practice is another thing entirely, a beginner player wont look at him, an average guy wont either because there are easier characters to play and work less for more damage (jago army). i find it sad that fulgore is one of the causes for this dumb BS.
