Dark Souls 3 (SPOILERS ARE BLURRED. VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK)

So was I right? The Nameless King? Dude on the big ace dragon with feathers? The one on the launch trailer? Yeah Fighting Cowboy had a tough time with him. I never saw him beat him but I havent watched the final videos either since I didn’t want to be spoiled yet.

I haven’t even started the game! lol… Im still on blood borne with only 4 hours of sleep per night and tonight finally got back on Lords of the fallen and Im almost to the end just 2 more bosses!

I dont want to start DS3 and not be able to fully commit to it… so Im going to wait till I knock out LOTF and get half way through Bloodborne… at least another week or so.

That was nice yes. Everything but those corridors and square rooms are well done. But these corridors that basically were a copy/paste was lame.
The catacombs in DS1 is simply so much better as a lot more thought/different design elements is put into it.

Nameless King is not the final boss. He’s an optional one.

A little tip for you all, those blobs that we all love which you deal tremendously low dmg to. They really dislike fire. My torch does more dmg to them than my dark sword + 6

Those jumpscarescreams in the jail got me twice already :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know how to do the blurry text deal, but…

Thanks @BoJima404 I figured that might be the way to blur text, but I didn’t want to look dumb. I guess I did anyways.

Mimics in Dark Souls 3 work exactly like Dark Souls 1. The chains are even in the pattern for mimics and regular chests.

New edition to Dark Souls 3: If you have an empty armor slot (ex. no helm) you will take EXTRA damage on top of the missing defenses from said item. In the example of not wearing a helm, you will take an additional 10% damage.

So let’s say you would take 150 damage from an attack with full armor, and your helm has 50 defense (it’s an awesome helm). If you remove that helm and take the same hit you’ll receive 220 damage instead, since you’re losing 50 defense and have a 10% increase to damage taken.

Really enjoying the game so far. Been co-oping with a friend on PC, but I’ve yet to get a decent Ultra Greatsword.

If you have any questions about Dark Souls, in general, I’ll answer to the best of my knowledge.

I have 2000+ hours in Dark Souls overall.

Oh no way!!! So who is the final boss? Nameless King look so awesome!

I finally started and beat the 1st boss and got the Kitana. I stopped there for now as Im still reading up on my Collectors guide just trying to understand a lot of the new terminology and items.

I picked the Knight but Im not liking his SKILL and style. I think I’m going to start over and pick the Warrior with the AXE and Round Shield. I like h is SKILL that is like a Power Buff…he seems to play like Bloodborne’s Axe.

Speaking of BB…I just got to the Witch last night… man that Hemlock Chanel area is creepy! Irs like a Halloween scare trail or something. My fiancee loves watching this game… which is very odd. lol

Minor update until later tonight, when I plan to play a lot.

I didn’t have a huge amount of time to play this weekend, but I managed to kill my first Lord of Cinder , the Abyss Watchers on Saturday, and finished off last night’s session by killing High Lord Wolnir and reaching the next new area, Irithyll of the Boreal Valley .

A handy little tidbit; when you reach the aforementioned area, make sure you have found the Small Doll key item and have it on your person, or you will be unable to get past a “force field” on the bridge and a gigantic beast might kill you. I don’t remember where I got the doll, but I knew I had it, and saw a game-generated sign which indicated I needed a doll to cross.

My “Paladin” is still coming along nicely. I’ve hit level 51, and my stats are pretty well balanced. I have three spells Attuned, Medium Heal (which heals nearby allies), Lightning Spear, and a third which removes debuffs from myself and nearby allies. I currently have 9 flasks, and keep 7 Estus and 2 Ash Estus on me. I’m still using the same armor and weapons for now, and I know there are probably areas I still haven’t fully explored or bosses I haven’t killed.

If you require help, feel free to let me know here and I will try to drop a sign for you. I’m currently using the Sun Warrior covenant and we can use the Password Matching feature, so you might be able to pick mine out.

See this is why I have to read up on this game…there is a lot of details that go into all this stuff that Im not familiar with.

Speaking of Abyss watcher …some guy on Facebook said he made it all the way to Abyss watcher without dying. that was his first death…Im calling BS. lol

Picked this game up on Friday and had a blast over the weekend! I started off as a Pyromancer. Beat quite a few bosses and I’m at the Swamp now.

I’m just curious, does this game have a NG+ mode once you beat it? The bosses have been so challenging (but so awesome), that I’m already looking forward to having the chance at facing them again with better end-game stats and gear.

If so, do they give you the option to play the game again on the same difficulty, but using your current gear, or does the difficulty scale up the second time through?

NG+ is a huge part of the series, and it’s either neverending in terms of how many times you can enter NG+/NG++/NG+++, or it’s at least several times. Each time you enter a new NG+, the difficulty ramps up, including adding additional gear, different enemies, tougher enemies, and MORE enemies all over.

I think some of the bosses change the way they fight, as well.

Finished the game early this weekend. While it’s certainly more linear than the original DS or even some of DS2, I prefer the pacing and speed of this one over the previous two - it’s a nice hybrid between bloodborne and souls, and I really enjoyed it. Can’t wait for the DLC!

Discussions on my peeves in spoiler text! I’d suggest NOT reading them unless you’ve finished the game!

  • I feel that DEX weapons were pretty marginalized in this outing. I only found one S-scaling DEX weapon across the entire game, including boss weapons, and it couldn’t even get close to some of the S-scaling STR weapons in terms of output, and didn’t have any critical damage bonuses to make up for it.
  • By the end of the first run, I’m at 40 DEX and 35 STR because while I wanted to run a dex build, damage simply wouldn’t scale without STR as well. This was disappointing.
  • Poison and Bleed were useless against… everything. By the time you did enough damage to >maybe< see the effect, the creatures were dead anyway. This was really a bummer for me - feels like they didn’t tune resistances enough to really force creative tackling of enemies outside of “just beat on it”, which combined with the great dodge, meant you could just hit things to death easily.
  • While my go-to weapon for late game was the Ithrill Rapier, the frostbite component of it was never really viable either, aside from making the weapon look really cool.
  • I really do like the idea behind some of the rings they added that make rapid strikes more interesting, but while there is an effect, it doesn’t really make up for the lack of damage you trade to use them.

Here’s my character as she appears now.

Cool! She kind of looks like a Bloodborne Hunter!

So what character did you choose to start with? I chose Knight but I do not like his SKILL, I want to start over and choose Warrior for the Axe and Buff skill.

A note about skills; they’re tied to individual weapons/shields/charms/staves etc.

So you may just find the same weapon that the Warrior starts with (I noticed that my Herald class’ starting weapon and shield are purchasable in the Shrine or lootable in the first zone) or another weapon with the same skill.

Hmmm so is there ever a point where you can just go through and completely crush the game again, or is it always an uphill battle since the difficulty scales each time as well?

You will definitely be working your way back through. It’s intended to give you constant character progress across playthroughs, rather than a situation where you will be cakewalking across the world.

Personally, I like the new challenges better.

Typically NG+7 is the last actual step up in difficulty. Meaning NG+8 and NG+100 will be as difficult or easier than NG+7 due to how leveling works.

Really? So I dont need to change? I just feel at a disadvantage right now with the Knight poking fight style…I like the stagger and swinging chops of the Warrior since it is near identical to Bloodbornes Axe.

How soon can I get the Axe from where Im at currently which is the Fire link hub?

I couldn’t tell you, honestly. Check the vendor there, or see if enemies drop it in the areas you can access.

Well. Sadly. I beat the final boss just now. But instead of a gnawing emptiness that I feel after beating games like Dragon Age or The Witcher, with the soulsgames you kind of just want to go at it again, as a new character, new build, go back to look for secrets & secret areas or going into NG+.

My biggest complaint turned out to be the leveldesign of the catacombs as I mentioned above. The only place I felt that it was a bit of a chore. Running into one long pathway that only lead to a crystalsnail and then having to turn back…

That and the game could have more detailed bloodsplatter when hitting foes, and the color of it should be darker  nitpick.

As a whole it is better than DS2, not sure if it’s better than DS1 though. The linear design both helps & hurts the game. Unlinear make the world feel more connected & you will be surprised where the roads take you. But a linear path will show you more new areas instead.
