Dark Souls 3 (SPOILERS ARE BLURRED. VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK)

You need Bloodborne too!!! And you should finish Lords of the Fallen until you get Dark Souls 3!!! Dont forget about that…it get really good once you get into the catacombs and the demon realm of Rhogar!

@TempusChaoti Thank you so much for the advice… very concise and to the point… I think this is goingt o work out just fine my friend! But for now I can not begin my DS journey just yet…I must continue on my Bloodborne path so that I can focus on 1 game at a time. I dont think juggling both is a good idea just yet.

Plus I need to finish Lords of the Fallen!

Since you’ve got the DEX build covered, I’ll go for a Strength build like I am in Dark Souls 2; A 100% Shield in one hand and an Ultra Greatweapon in the other, bumping tons of points into Vitality for obvious reasons. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is my Dark Souls 2 character, Beth.

I play Dark Souls kinda like I’m playing Tusk, lol.
Hopefully that carries over well when I get DS3.

This is how Lords of the Fallen Works, so Im understand this part so that’s good.

These letters are also in Bloodborne and this is something I have yet to understand. Even after reading how you explained it…I still dont understand what the “BONUS PER POINT” is all about. What bonus?

All of this mentioned above is in Lords of the Fallen… so thats a good thing for me!!! Thats why I keep telling everyone that Lords is a great introduction in to the Souls series… its definitely worked for me and without it I wouldnt even have BB or DS as of today!. Games with Gold rocks!!!

Let’s say I have a 100 damage sword which requires 16 STR and 10 DEX to use, and both stats have a scaling letter.

  • If my stats are lower than either or both 16STR and 10 DEX, I can equip the weapon but it will swing slower, use more stamina per swing, and do much less damage. Basically, don’t do this. Ever.

  • If my stats are exactly 16 STR and 10 DEX, I can equip the weapon and it’s damage levels will be the base damage for the weapon.

  • If my stats are 17 STR and 10 DEX, I can equip the weapon and my damage will have a bonus amount added to it based on the scaling letter times the number of points above the minimum requirements; we’ll use the display example of 100 + 5 (if we assume a single stat above minimum is worth 5 on this weapon, I don’t know the full detail of scaling).

  • So as you can imagine, that continues to climb up, so the weapon would keep getting better as my stats go up, and will add bonus damage for every single stat point with an associated scaling letter. Some bonuses are based on different stats, too. I believe lightning damage bonuses (for lightning spells or lightning enchanted weapons) are based on your Faith stat, which is the route I’m planning to take with my “paladin-like” mixed build.

I liked DS1 a lot. I think I made it harder on myself by going for a DEX/dodge/parry build initially, eventually changing to a STR/heavy armored tank build mid to late game which required a lot of grinding to implement, and accidentally attacking the blacksmith midgame, then killing him when I couldn’t make him calm, without knowing that I could’ve gone to a specific NPC to make him friendly again… hAUKSJFGHUIDGNLAIUBHFASF.

I liked DS2 better than DS1, though I don’t know whether that was because I planned my character better, or the overall changes to the game. I definitely learned and memorized it better than DS1.

I think I’m liking DS3 more than I liked DS2, honestly. Combat feels faster, the levels have been visually and structurally interesting. Enemies feel dangerous and like they are working in groups correctly, and there are occasional enemies down sidepaths which are far beyond your capability to beat when you first encounter them. You’ll take note of those and go back later, feeling like a badass when you crush them. ■■■■ you, hollowed samurai dude.

I like how they made weapons more distinct now, with the various special abilities a weapon could have. It offers more choices than simply using a normal or heavy attack, and I like how the magic system works. Weapons and items are explained in better, less cryptic detail when you look at them in a shop or your inventory, which is nice. The new classes you get to choose from at the beginning are great, I love how I was able to kickstart my paladin build right from the get go.

Ahhh Ok I get it now! thanks! Its basically like Lords of the Fallen where you can equip the weapon but you cant swing it very well if your strength doesn’t match?

And now that you explained the Letters and the (100 +5 ) scaling… I recognize this in Bloodborne.
So now its starting to “click” for me. thank you!

Man i have to get some sleep… Im falling asleep at my desk and cant see straight. 4 hours a night for the last 2 weeks is catching up to me!

Just remember I used a very basic example based on nothing more than simple numbers, I couldn’t tell you how much each scaling letter is worth per point.

But essentially, yes, LOTF copied the same concepts from the DS series.

cool, Im starting to understand it more thanks to this thread… plus I have the collectors strat guide and the starter guide that explains this stuff as well…I just have to find the time to read it.

LOTF unfortunately didn’t understand all the nuances of the model they were trying to idealize.

I agree with this to some extent, but I do think it was a decent “spiritual sequel.” If they do ever get around to making LOTF2 I will definitely be looking to get my hands on it.

I will post up some screenshots of my character and gear tonight in case anybody’s interested in that. I’ll do so in the Shrine so I’m not even spoiling areas for anybody.

If you are interested, I started a new Playlist on my Youtube channel and will be uploading boss kills and other interesting stuff there. I’ve got playlists there for Gears of War and Killer Instinct already.

I love that game! Like I said its a really good stepping stone for beginners of the DS series… I gave up on BB last December and returned it becasue I couldnt get past the first werewolf or even figure out how to equip my weapon that’s given to you on the steps.

But once I got through LOTF i was like " I can handle this type game now" and I went and bought BB, DS1 and DS2 and Preordered DS3

So I give LOTF credit for getting me on track other wise Id just be playing Killer Instinct all day and night LOL

That’s not bad either. That’s a win-win situation.

Yeah these 3 new games are really cutting into my KI and MK X. I haven’t even played MK X in 2 weeks and that hasn’t happened in MONTHS!!! I took pride in completing my Faction challenges everyday… I have failed the White Lotus… if you dont hear from me soon, I my have been Faction killed by an Invasion Assassin!

There’s nothing I don’t love about seeing our Creative Director going ham on RPGs in the off-topic section.

(yes, the double-negative was intentional and cheeky)

So a current update, with spoiler tags for a boss name and location name - click at your own peril, you have been warned!

I’ve just reached the Cathedral Of The Deep area after defeating the Crystal Sage boss. It’s an interesting area and feels like a decent challenge, though my current weapon of choice is excellent here.

I have reached level 39, and my “Balanced Paladin” is coming along nicely.

I am currently wearing all four pieces of the “Fallen Knight” armor set. No bonuses that I’m aware of, but they look awesome and were the heaviest pieces of armor I can currently wear! Good level of protection all around.

This is my current lifetaker. Decent swing radius while onehanded, good strong attacks, and the fire enchant has really upped the damage on this thing. Enchanting it also removed the stat bonuses (I think) so this may not be the end-all weapon at the end of the game for me, as I think Lightning weapons will be better suited to my Faith build, but it’s serving its purpose for now. Once I start finding Large Titanite Shards I can upgrade it further.

And this is my shield. A special item I found on a somewhat hidden corpse, it has full physical protection and better protection against elements than any other shield I’ve spotted, and has a large bonus to Dark defense. All in all, not too shabby.

As preparation I have spoiled myself with a brand new Elite controller. So no excuses for me. All I have to do now is find the money I just spent to be able to actually buy DS3

oh wait, that’s another excuse, isn’t it? :expressionless:

The time has come.
Begin!

So far the game is really fun and an extreme step up in graphical quality from DS2. The startingarea really is beautiful in its own way. I also feel bad for you that play this game on a console. The higher framerate on PC makes it all so much nicer to play.
I know the thread is spoilerfree but…
I feel the need to write a little bit about my progress :stuck_out_tongue:

I managed to beat the first boss without dying. I even killed the ice beast that the game advised to back away from
But when I got to the guy with the uchigatana… He bested me more than 5 times. But spamming attacks instead of countering/circling seem to prove efficient enough.

Haha damn devs!

The first chest I find. Noo way that the devs would put a mimic as the first chest, they usually save that for later…

That darn poisonous swamp. Tactic - rush in, collect everything, die.

I might come off as a bit harsh now but…The guy who designed the catacombs and what’s just below should be fired. The entire game so far has been beautifully designed. Many areas bring back memories from Bloodborne in the shape of Yharnam & Hemwick charnel lane. The catacombs in Dark Souls 1 were awesome. The ones in Dark Souls 2 suffer the same fate as in this game. The fact that the whole area is basically designed like a big square riddled with walls making it a maze. Nothing fun to look at, no interesting leveldesign at all. It’s just corner after corner leading into a stair for more straights & corners -_-

Eh, a giant underground crypt gets free pass for being labyrinthine in my book. I thought it was a decent zone for what it was, especially if you count the Smouldering Lake with it.

Anyway, I just got past Pontiff Sulyvahn. He’s the first boss I’ve summoned for, and I don’t regret it; if he gets a buddy to gang up on me with, so do I. :expressionless:

That was the one boss I had to summon for too. DEX builds don’t play nice with him.

I’m sitting at the final boss. Been quite a ride.
