Dark Souls 3 (SPOILERS ARE BLURRED. VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK)

I had very little time to play anything this weekend, but made some achievement progress in KI, and a bit of progress in Dark Souls as well.

During the week I took down
Yhorm The Giant
, my third Lord of Cinder. That same night I then proceeded to kill the
Dancer of the Boreal Valley
, and stopped there, not having done anything since then besides having reached
Lothric Castle
. On Sunday night I finally got a chance to play again, and worked my way through all of (or most of, at least)
Lothric Castle
and managed to kill the
Dragonslayer Armor
. I also went through a good portion of the
Grand Archives
, though I am absolutely sure there are places in both of the last two locations which I haven’t explored, including a side path which led to some other zone which I can’t recall the name of.

I’ve been upgrading two ■■■■■■■-swords pretty evenly, one which is Chaos enchanted at +8/9 and the other which is Lightning enchanted and reached the maximum +10 last night. Since I’m focusing on a mix of STR/DEX/Faith, it’s a pretty strong weapon for me.

At the end of the evening, I had managed to accumulate the most souls I’ve ever held at once; 250,000! This wasn’t even the result of much grind-style farming, but progression through the two listed areas (which unfortunately included several deaths and subsequent tension filled runs to my bloodstain!) including the bonus from killing the boss. I also typically run with a ring and shield which give me bonus souls collected, which helped. I got something like 7 level ups in one shot, which is absurd at this point. I’m currently sitting at level 87.
Pontiff Sulyvahn has been burned to the ground. It only took 4 tries, so he was A LOT easier than the cleric ensembleboss.
I like Pontiff though. One of my favorite bosses in the game. The color of his swords, his elegant movement, his shadowpower, the catedral you fight him in.
It’s quite epic.

I like the fact that no matter which magicdirection you go -pyro-bless-soul you always have a spell that will enchant your weapon. Makes it quite useful to put some points into Int & faith as a warrior.

But alas, time for some KI. I will catch up on the co-optional podcast & get Kim Wu to lvl 50!

I found that the
Grand Archive
is a really good place to farm souls once you’ve cleared it. I have a ring and shield which give a pretty decent bonus to souls earned, and a special helm which adds something like 50% to souls gained, but you lose 10 HP/second the entire time you’re wearing it. There are about 22 enemies in a few small separate areas which are easy to farm in a single run, and I have more than enough flasks to farm them, keep myself healed (even while wearing the helmet) and then return to the bonfire and repeat.

Last night I also completed both the
Consumed King’s Garden
and
Untamed Graves
, including the bosses of each. I think there are a couple of items I’ve left lying on the ground that I need to pick up, but then I need to wander around a bit and figure out where the next area is that I’ve missed, to continue forward.

I finally made it past the 1st main boss Vort and was able to level up pretty substantially. I bought the tower key and got the Flame robes and all the goodies there, even though I had already made the tree jump from the start.
So I am now at the beginning of the Undead Settlement, I have a Sorcerers staff, soul darts/arrows, Healing miracle, +2 flame and +2 Dark axes, +2 Claymore, +1 raw Unchaganata (ninja sword lol), +1 Basttard sword, and a few other decent weapons.

I think Im level 50 which is pretty high for this early in the game. I think Im powerful enough to get moving without getting killed so easily by knights and other shielded characters.
I am proud to say I made it all the way to that 1st main boss only dying once. But once i tried to beat that Blue knight he wrecked my sheet many times.

I need to get back on Bloodborne and finish Lords of the fallen too…there just inst enough time in the day to play my 4 main games right now. ughh

Beware of the untamed graves, they might attack! One could almost say those graves are left untended

After a bit of geargrinding and finishing off all areas I quit my first run at lvl 100 so… I would say you are somewhat overleveled

Stick to a minimum of 1 heavy game is my recommendation. It will keep your experience more focused and you won’t lose time switching inbetween the games all the time.

My uncle takes the cake when it comes to grinding/over leveling; I’m (assumedly) getting close to the end game, and am at level 97. My uncle was level 136 when he reached the
Cathedral of the Deep
.

I mean, wow.

That’s how Ken Lobb plays. He’s like L130 at the Princes.

I’m L140 on NG+… Right before the Princes.

We want to make sure we are powerful enough to get past some of the tougher enemies lol
Im just not as good at Dark Souls as I am at Bloodborne. I think the fact that Bloodborne give you life back during your combo and having the pistol and trick shot weapons makes the battle easier than DS.

So what is an optimal level and stats for a decent build? I hear so many people talking about all these different builds it gets confusing and makes me 2nd guess what Im doing.

Id prefer to have a lot of endurance and strength but also have a projectile handy. Similar to BB’s pistol and Lord of the fallen Gauntlet.

Dark Souls are quite open in how you play but the optimal thing to do is either go full strength, lots of carryweight, heavy armor, damaging weapons and lots of points into vitality. No ranged weaponry required really (I only used the bow to pick off 3 dragons my first run as a str-class - and the occasional body hanging around in ropes) Greatbows require quite a lot of str to use properly but those are not meant to be used in hectic battles.
Then there’s the dex class, it’s quite similar to the str build although it opens up for more usage of bows.
And last but not least the magicclass. They should’nt really focus putting any points into str or dex. UNTIL you kind of have maxed out int/faith/attunement then you can put points in dex. As dexterity ups the castingrate, not a whole lot but a bit.
And DS3 is a lot harder for sorcerers than DS1 & 2.

I think the 2 magic slots I have is enough then? Should I stop there and go the rest with Strength and dex?

How are you playing? Using strbased weapons? dex? magic? Or made a mess of it all together? :stuck_out_tongue:

I never used magic at all with my str-guy. But ofc there can be some build diversity. Clerics is a prime example, focusing on strenght and faith. There’s a few miracles that boost weapons/healing. But there’s also a pyromancy which give firedmg to a weapon, and spells that add magicdmg to weapons.
Only used it on one enemy so far but man, I was NOT expecting the damage of the black fire orb from the regular fire orb to double O_O - silver knights might be weak to dark-

I’m sorry, the spoiler tags looked very fun, and I couldn’t resist myself into posting in this thread. Once again, I apologize.

Trähatt.

Mainly Strength and Endurance. Just enough magic to get 2 slots and a healing aid which is 10 on Intelligence and 14 on Faith

I think my strength is 22 and Endurance is 18. Vigor is 17 and vitality is 14.

Luck is 10 as thats what it started as for Warrior.

Yes its a mess

A bit  The healing aid is useless. Only heal miracle worth using is either regenerating ones or great heal which require 25 faith to use. But healing miracles are very slow to cast so relying on estus is the right thing to do. So you can either go 3 ways. Reroll or restart, or pump some more points so you can use either…

Buffspell - requirements
Magic weapon/Great magic weapon/Crystal magic weapon (10/15/30 intelligence)
Magic shield/Great magic shield (10/18 intelligence) - as far as I know these spells only boost magic resistance on the shield.
Blessed weapon (15 faith)
Lightning blade (30 faith) or
Carthus flame arc (10 int & 10 faith)

But keep in mind that you can’t use these spells on weapons that are infused.

Yeah put no points in luck  A few items are luckbased and droprates increase.

I have no idea what your trying to tell me here. I dont want to use much magic…but everything you listed is magic based.

Im just going to continue build my character to play like I play in Bloodborne…if it doesn’t work…Owell. Id much rather play Bloodborne any day…Dark Souls is cool…but it doesnt grab my attention like Bloodborne does.

I have 2 characters running on DS as of know…1 is a knight and I cant stand how he plays. I do not like the Knight style weapons.
The better character is my Warrior and he is up to 50 and pretty ■■■■ strong and fast.

I wish someone would create a guide to DS on how to make the most Bloodborne inspired weaponry and character stats. Id love to see that and try to follow that path.

I assumed you mistyped an ‘s’ in there by mistake, and I was wrong.

This was one of my favorite boss fights throughout all three Dark Souls games.

Not really. All those are buffingspells that would be of use to a meleeclass. Some require faith to use, most require intelligence and one require both. Blessed weapon & lightningblade buff the weapon with lightning dmg and carthus flame arc buff the weapon with firedamage. Magic weapon ofc buff it with magic.
I play as a mageclass now, pumping as much as I can into intelligence & faith, I don’t use any of these spells that I listed at all.

Why I told you that you could use these is because you wrote that you have put points so that you have 2 attunementslots & also points in faith to use healing aid(this miracle quickly become useless for stronger healingmiracles). For a warriorclass these are wasted points. No need to put points into attunement, faith or intelligence at all unless you plan on using it
That’s why I made the list and the requirements to use spells that would actually benefit you. But then you would have to invest a bit more into those stats.

Like I previously said, the “class” you start with is just a name. You can change your character into whatever you want, using whatever weapon or spell you like.
If you don’t like a type of weapon try something else. DS3 is heavily focused on greatswords for a str-class. I don’t like greatswords so I went with straightswords instead which are str-based weapons as well. They do less dmg but attack much faster.
Most of the dex-based meleeweapons attack faster than str-based weapons.
