Are we getting any new content this tuesday?

Oh no kidding? I didn’t know Phil said that, so thanks for letting me know. I think / hope that actually explains why we haven’t heard much KI news lately and that there’s still more greatness on the horizon.

At least until then, we still have the KI comic, so there’s still stuff going on in front of the curtain as well. Thanks for the response, Adam!

We’ve got to stop meeting like this- The Crimson Tiger Guardian has an interesting mechanic that’s like the original Tiger, but on steroids. Once you fill up its meter, the next special attack you hit a blocking opponent with will become unblockable. :tiger:

Once the Crimson Tiger’s meter is full, not only does it STAY full, but it means that all of your special attacks become unblockable. I can already see the unlimited Riptor Talon Rakes against a defenseless Gargos at the end of Shadow Lords… :tiger:

#CrimsonTigerSoon? :tiger:

Also, I wonder if the promotion of Matt Booty will help KI to get more resources? Time will tell.

Fight On!

It’s too late in the day to believe that anything’s coming out this month, but I wanted to leave this amazing gem here:

As amazing as the entirety of this video is, be sure to pay attention from the 14:45 mark onward. :green_heart::purple_heart::green_heart:

Time to fight on through Feb,

Scroll up a bit to find the response from Adam Isgreen. Essentially, even if something is on the cards for KI, it won’t be announced until it is near release. So we may have a long wait.

The good news is that issue #5 of the KIller Instinct comic series releases this week, and although I’m picking it up soon, I can’t help but to wonder how another piece of KI merch is coming along…

@rukizzel noted on Twitter that brand-new Killer Instinct trading cards are in the works, but that was a loooooong time ago- Can we please get an update on 'em? @snickerdoodle

They have to be better than the pretty rubbish ones we got in the 90’s…

Ummmm PASS.

Aww, well I hope to hear something about the new cards soon- I’ll totally plunk down $20 worth of booster packs just to have some. I’d even start a thread here on Ultra-Combo to trade away doubles to other forum members for cards I’m missing. Sounds like fun! :purple_heart:

PS. I actually have a 60-card “starter deck” in my collection of silly videogame stuff that has an old 90’s Spinal render on the cardboard box. Man, the KI card game was terrible!

By “pass” I mean I can ask but idk.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

My hype train is still being powered by last week’s excellent issue of the Killer Instinct comic, and while there doesn’t look like anything’s coming out today for the game, I’ve got two fun questions in the meantime:

1 – Did you find out anything about the upcoming trading cards since last week, @snickerdoodle? :sunglasses:

2 – Also, when is the new photo competition going to start, @snickerdoodle? I believe that this week’s theme was “Airborne,” right? The last photo mission was a bunch of fun, and I’m looking forward to the new one! :helicopter:

Thanks a bunch, and fight on!

No dice on steam cards. Someone keeps letting rukizzel out of the office.

Photo contest is going up shortly! Forgot that yesterday was a holiday here.

Thanks for getting back to me, @snickerdoodle- You rock!

I’ll start mulling over ideas for Airborne, but I was actually talking about real cardboard trading cards, like in-your-hand real-real cards. I can give waaaaay back into my Twitter favorites if I have to, but I know that rukizzel wasn’t referring to whatever digital cards that Steam players are used to. :black_joker:

-Zenek

Oh. I thought you meant Steam. I got nothing on the physical stuff.

Someone still let rukizzel out of the office so I can’t even ask him yet. RIP you.

It’s a shame that the Tiki Guardian didn’t get a proper mini-backstory as many of the various other Astral Guardians did, but I’m just happy to have it; The character’s flat, mask-like face was an excellent design choice!

I even had a huge black-painted tiki log that stood in the corner of my backyard ages ago- Good times. :+1:t2:

Speaking of which, the Crimson Tiki is still out somewhere in the Astral Plane enjoying an interdimensional luau or something. I wonder when it’ll lend its “All heavy attacks cause stagger” plus bonus crimson abilities to Shadow Lords?

I’m disappointed that we only get half the deck for crimson guardians and then ig just gives up. I wanted to have all crimson guardians, I even farmed a crap ton of astral gems to be able to get them when they came out.

I wish I had a crimson anything. Never managed to save up enough to get one. Tell me, what is the main difference between crimson and Killer, I noticed there also stamps. I suppose I should just read the dossiers.

Crimson guardians usally have worse stats than their killer counterpart, but gain a new ability to boot. Ex. Killer Snake does 15 pts of potential damage per second with 50% DMG and 75% DEF. Crimson does only 9pts of potential damage per second with only 40% DMG and 60% DEF, but now all melee attacks deal potential damage on hit or block. You could do more damage with crimson but the effect is weaker.

The stamps also detail the perfect version of a killer. From Common to Epic rarity the stats of the guardian will randomize in a specific range. The KI stamp indicated that it is the best version of that Rarity guardian with the maximum stats of that rarity range. Killer and Crimson guardians are always perfect when you get them, to avoid purchasing expensive guardians but deal with an additional RNG.

That’s actually really cool, based on how you mention them they are designed more with a unique edge over the regular counterparts. Classification of guardians on a scale from least to best kind of becomes tedious and takes away from the element of strategizing.

This way there is more involvement and considerably a great deal of potential for the rarity system in KI. Pretty surprised how much detail there is for something that comes off as simple enough. Good job to the devs there. Also thanks for pointing it out.
