3.9 is coming! Any hopes for Gamescom?

I’m sure those rumors are just a bunch of malarkey. I would love to be wrong though.

i dont expect to hear anything of substance at gamescom. maybe customization stuff, which i could care less about lol

It’s fine if they don’t announce something, but then they need to not also pretend that there might be an announcement.

It’s fine to not know certain details about the Steam release, but then you need to tell us about why you don’t know those details, and when you will tell us more. It’s probably not a good idea to announce the Steam version without some basic info, like cross-play and release date, which every single person has asked me about as soon as I tell them there’s a Steam version coming. It’s incredibly maddening to have to tell them “I have no idea, check back in a few months, maybe?”

There are lots of details they still haven’t made public, including what will happen with the money raised from the Kilgore tournament fund (that was half a year ago now, did they just steal that money and are hoping we don’t notice?), or what the future plan is for patches in the game (Rukari teased something about a 3.9… is that the last patch? When is 3.9 coming? What is in 3.9?). I don’t need to know everything all at once, but I do expect to know basic information about the game I play, and the game I’m trying to convince others to play because I like it.

I’m sick of being strung along. KI launched 3 and a half years ago; it’s far, far too late to be teasing about patches.

I just hope they release SOME type of info soon.

Like Infil, everytime I tell people about the Steam version, I get asked 20 questions about it. I don’t like when I have to answer back,

“I dunno. I hope we get info soon.”

That sucks.

It says alot when people who’ve been around from the start are getting sick of unnecessary hyping for the game. We know 3.9 and steam is coming but there’s no need to get people’s hopes up time and time again with nothing to show.

That’s how you lose what you already have.

As Andy said this KI was made to plug a hole in launch line up. While fantastic they been stringing it along on a bootstrap budget.

When was the last time SL had a big update? They’ve had the colours and ultimate packs finished for months and still nothing new.

I think it’s time to move on.

I still believe they got something that will blow our minds.

Sure, I may be wrong, and may be setting myself up for disappointment, but I can handle it. I’m a pretty relaxed, Optimistic guy. Let’s go 3.9 and beyond! Woo!

KI has had consistent updates on content and gameplay for nearly 4 years now. Shoestring budget or not, I’m pretty content with what we’ve gotten -shrug-

I dunno, I guess I just don’t get mad about the teases and such. I mostly don’t get excited about them one way or the other, and I think anyone saying “I’m leaving because of teases and being drip-fed information” is probably being disingenuous. If you haven’t played yet you have your reasons and if you’ve left or are about out the door you’ve got your reasons, but “the pace of news” is probably pretty darn low on those lists.

Just my $.02.

hey man .. jus cuz injustice may have u down right now, doesnt mean u gotta rain on this person’s parade! haha  are u around for a set on Tuesday?

I don’t think anyone is complaining about the content that has been released. Opinions may differ on taste and what not. I think some of the community would just like some clarification if there is anything substantial on the horizon.
It maybe just everyone hyping themselves up at every event hoping something to be announced. We all should know that the new video being released is just gonna be a balance patch and shouldn’t get their hopes up.

I haven’t played since eagle was released, I was expecting a different play style and was disappointed ( but that’s on me not them).

I’ve moved on but I’ll come back and play it now and again because I love the lore of KI

If I rob you of all your two cents over the past two years on this forum and make them my $.02 then I have about $100k :money_mouth_face:

Personally I am gonna wait and see what they got in store before we all get too hyped.

That is why I’d like to Riptor in future KI games. I don’t want a repeat of KI2 plus she like many characters in Ki are unique enough to stand out on her own within the cast of characters.

I can see the guests and remixes going out though. Back on topic, I don’t think that is what we are getting. They say it’s major but who knows. The closest thing to that is Ultimates which are coming out to day I think, if not, correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah, I’ve been wondering this for some time as well. They talked like they had long-term plans for supporting Shadow Lords, yet aside from the general additions of more characters and guardians it’s only gotten like two major content updates, and the last one was last year I think.

If their “major” announcements would be Ultimates, that would be beyond pathetic.

I hope they are working on that Steam crossplay and don’t want to announce anything until they get it working.

Xbox-Win10-Steam crossplay would help KI hugely because I don’t recall any FG to have such wide crossplay. It sounds too good though.

After watching that stream yesterday, where the vast majority felt like rehashes of E3 mixed with a few announcements that were more than a bit underwhelming, I’d have to think that ANY sort of Killer Instinct announcement likely would’ve and should’ve made the cut, so my hopes of anything KI related coming at Gamescom certainly took a hit. We’ll see, but for now it kinda feels like we’re back in no mans land. :slightly_frowning_face:

Ugh, I hate being negative about stuff I enjoy. I hate being that guy. Sorry.

I would rather have a solid and consistent roster than cutting popular and franchise stables. Character appeal is a huge thing to most people (from what I understand), and when seeing their favourite character be in a sequel, it usually means they will get the game.

I know there were separate threads discussing which characters to replace and which to keep, so I’m not going to dig into this too much here, but I just want to reiterate how important this point is (to me, of course, and to a few others at least I’m sure). Characters are important–allowing development to happen and attachment to them to grow is even more so. Anyways it’s always neat when someone’s views align so closely with your own, so thanks @anon39655210 for throwing your thoughts out there!

On the subject of Gamescon, announcements, and all that stuff… yeah I’m with everyone here that I would like a little bit more concrete info. There’s something to be said for momentum and I think they should be trying to ride that a little bit more, rather than just making a really cool announcement and then sitting on it until the excitement for it begins to dwindle a little bit. Of course I’m no PR/marketing expert or anything and I’m sure there’s some red tape they have to cut their way through, but yeah, I think doing what they can to keep the community in the loop a little bit more can only help.

I would love a big announcement for Gamescon but I don’t know how likely it is to happen. While I don’t expect to get news on this subject in particular, the issue of season 4 or a sequel is becoming a hot topic; I’ll be happy with either at this point I think I would prefer a sequel. Even if content updates stop happening for KI 2013, it doesn’t mean that the game is going to magically go away, and I think starting with new materials could really help the devs, as I’ve heard some people say that they’re a little constrained by what DH built and that’s why bugs keep popping up or can be so darn hard to squash out. Plus, this KI has been out for what… 4 years now? This is my first time really being involved in a fighting game and its community so I’m not sure how long their lifespan typically is, but that’s not bad. That’s a pretty long time for something that was just rolled out the gate as a launch title to help the X1 sell and grew into so much more. I’d be fine if it got a chance to rest so people can start digging into the game in earnest while whoever develops the new game (presumably IG) work on something new.

Anyways this is becoming wordier than I’d meant it, so! In closing: Gamescon hopes would just be some news about the Steam port because making it accessible to more people is a big deal, and maybe some explanation about 3.9 since they teased that. News about the tournament fund would be good too. I don’t know, it feels like there’s a lot of stuff sort of just floating nebulously around at the moment and I think clarifying that can only help all parties before they try to move on to whatever the future might hold.

Hmmm… why did the Killer Instinct Twitter retweet the Age of Empires Gamescom stream…?
Ultratech playable faction in Age of Empires? :joy:

It’s true about the “trying to sell the game with drop feed info”.

I got asked about cross play, and I joked “stay tuned” and he joked back “no thanks”.

… Except he wasn’t joking

The teases and releases are for us from now on. New colors and fireball rebalancing isn’t going to draw in a new crowd, and the Shadow lords card was spent, so it did whatever it did for the newcomers/casual crowd. It’s like they’re stringing us along with drop feed, and were supporting the game just enough to keep the drops coming.

A giant casual aimed push like season 4 or a sequel is Lely not to happen soon (though from a business perspective, a sequel is almost gauranteed… Just not any time soon)

I strongly feel this is where we’re at, and we’ll string each other along till the game is irrelevant.

On this cheery tone, Anyone wanna know how the universe will end?
