3.9 is coming! Any hopes for Gamescom?

I dunno man…maybe, but throughout all these seasons she’s still trying to flush out Ultratech, and at this point in the story that plot point is kinda obsolete. I mean I’m sure they can figure something else for her to do, but as of right now I feel people would be asking the same “what point is there for her to be here” questions everyone is already asking of Spinal. Personally I’d say save her for KI5 and have her come back in full force.

She’s the main female character of the franchise. I severely doubt she’ll be cut out of any KI game.
Trying to justify it through story reasons is just plain silly. Any fighting game has the story shaped around their chosen roster, not the other way around. Roster and gameplay will always be the priority over story in fighting games, after all.

Was. But mainly because she was the only 1 (human-ish one anyway) in the first game. We’ve got what…7 now? Why not give more of them a chance to shine?

Hey, why not take out Jago and Fulgore too then? We have so many new cool male characters to replace them with, after all. XD

The funny thing about you saying that is it wouldn’t really bother me.

…Fulgore could always use an upgrade anyway. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It wouldn’t be an upgrade if he wasn’t in the game though.

But nah, I feel that those exact three characters are stables to the series, maybe alongside Sabrewulf, Glacius and Spinal.

A KI without Orchid is no KI for me.

It’s really hard to decide which characters to leave out if there was a KI sequel. Some obvious ones would be guest and boss characters. Eyedol didn’t have a huge role so he has a good chance of making it. I don’t see Gargos, Omen, or Shadow Jago returning though. I don’t see any of the remixes making it in(unless Shin Hisako replaces Hisako). Sadira would be one of the ones that would be first to be left out. It’s really hard to get rid of anyone else though. You could sya Spinal but he is so iconic.

Personally I just feel like since since everyone from KI 1 & 2 made it in to KI3, they all got their time to shine, so whoever they decide to keep or pull for a sequel I’m fine with. I don’t feel like there are any sacred cows when it comes to the roster because of that.
But obviously opinions differ.

Like I get that… But what else do they have to show!? Lol

Sea of Thieves and Forza again?

Even though this thread seems to be going off topic, I just love how anytime a sequel is mentioned all remix/bonus characters are immediately written off while the original characters are untouchable in people’s eyes. Just look at eagle, he was released relatively recently after being teased in either the old or modern comics, and the new storyline and yet he too is written off. Sorry for my little rant but can’t people even give the thought a chance?

Did you know that Street Fighter 3 was not a popular game at all when it was released? It had Ryu and Ken from the original games, but everyone else were replaced. Chun Li and Akuma joined the roster in later iterations, but it is still one of the least popular SF game, even if the game itself was (and still is, imo) incredibly good and beautiful.

Do you know what games are popular and sold really well? The Super Street Figher 4 games which had the classic character. Mortal Kombat 9 (and to some extend MKX) which had the classic characters. Almost all the Tekken games have kept the classic characters in all their games (one way or the other).

Funny thing about MKX is that a lot of those classic characters had died in MK9, yet were still in MKX because NRS knew cutting them out of the game would be a disaster.

I would rather have a solid and consistent roster than cutting popular and franchise stables. Character appeal is a huge thing to most people (from what I understand), and when seeing their favourite character be in a sequel, it usually means they will get the game.

I understand though… when already having a huge roster, it’s tough to make room for new characters. So of course SOME characters would need to go for new characters to join. That’s what happened to Thunder, Cinder and Riptor in KI2.

I just can’t imagine a KI without Orchid. As I already said, she’s the main female character of the franchise. The Season 1 characters are the main 8, imo, with Jago, Fulgore and Orchid being the three who should be playable in every KI.

I understand this but if you replace Sadira with someone else like Hisako, I would be fine. Season 1 characters are for the most part, iconic.

I understand Hisako has for some reason become very popular with the KI community, but I’d personally prefer to keep Sadira over her.

I hear ya. It can get frustrating when you have a passion for something you have no control over lol

This is the wrong question to ask, putting narrative before roster is counter productive.

Who knows. There have been alpt of rumors about games ms has in the works such as an exclusive ninja garden title and a fable project that isn’t a silly spin-off. A 4 year old game however isn’t really something you slate for your immediate future.

Regarding the side-topic of “I WANNA SEQUEL!!!” “WHAAA! KI IS OLD!!!” you’re just not in the right frame of mind- I see “Killer Instinct” as one of those games-as-a-platform games, like “World of Warcraft,” “Minecraft,” and “League of Legends.”

We don’t need a “sequel,” when we can keep on adding onto this iteration of Killer Instinct. We already have the band of legacy fighters together- why not take the story into a post-Gargos world, while introducing a new generation of monsters and warriors? Keep building on the visuals, as they are doing with the 4K update. Create innovative new modes, as we’ve seen with Shadow Lords, and Shadow Lab.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that we need to rebuy the game with a fresh coat of paint, while squabbling over which fighters should be axed, and who should return- we can do so much more with the kickass platform we already have! We’re in the current year, and Killer Instinct feels like it has the potential to continue for quite a while longer. Let’s keep KI going strong, and FIGHT ON!

I couldn’t resist. I would buy Ninja Garden no matter what…

@anon39655210 you are right about returning characters selling games. Ken and Ryu weren’t included in the original plans for SF 3 but they were brought in to have some continuity in the series. I never played any of the other characters in the arcade - so it’s definitely commercially smarter to bring back all the old characters. In this day and age, the smartest thing to do is to include half the original roster and then sell the other half as DLC. But, at least in my humble opinion, that doesn’t mean the games are better. I can point to lots of commercially successful games that I don’t think are very good and plenty of good games that are not commercially huge. Such is life. I would be a little bit careful though, because it’s so unclear what MS will do with KI (if they do anything at all) that I wouldn’t 100% bank on Orchid being in any sequel.

Narrative and roster are not terms that are used in a vacuum, and one doesn’t necessarily trump the other in every situation. Mortal Kombat has shown that. Remember how much of a mess MK Armageddon was? But they had the entire MK cast and a few extras in there, even Motaro…oh boy Motoro, he could be a full example in and of himself.
Point is, they can scre.w up if they go too far either way. There is no silver bullet answer.

Orchid is one of the few characters amongst my favourites who can be seen as “main” characters for a franchise. Cammy from Street Fighter has kinda become one too, though is still secondary to Chun Li, while Jade from Mortal Kombat is more of a tertiary character. Not to mention Kunimitsu in the Tekken series…

So yeah, I know how it is to be fans of characters who aren’t stables to their franchises, knowing they won’t be in every iteration in their respective series.

With Orchid, that’s different though, as she IS a main character. I’m not saying it is 100% sure she will be in a sequel, I’m saying she SHOULD be. And considering her popularity and status in KI, I would consider her safe, though I am fully aware that could indeed change.

Even Sonya and Kitana haven’t been in all MK games, and Chun Li haven’t been in all SF games. And those times it’s been shown to be a mistake. Even Scorpion wasn’t in MK3, and that turned out to be a HUGE mistake. Luckily both Kitana and Scorpion were added in Ultimate MK3 (and Jade’s first playable debut, just to throw that random fact in there. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ).
