That’s the problem. The system knows it’s a fightstick, but it doesn’t have the proper working drivers. So it’ll only work in some cases in Apps like the Xbox App. Games currently don’t even see it.
Just because the drivers are not working the way we think it should be doesn’t mean they’re not working the way MS thinks they should be. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not directing this explicitly at you, but it’s like some of the people in this thread have no concept of a closed ecosystem. It’s not a new concept. It’s how Nintendo, Apple, Google (to some extent), Oculus, and who knows how many other companies handle their products. They want you to use their products their way and block off any way they can of doing otherwise. That’s why you can’t just dump NES & SNES roms onto a Wii U. That’s why you can’t use a micro USB on an Iphone (unless they’ve changed it on the 6 & beyond). That’s why you can’t play HTC Vive games on a Rift. & That’s why you can only use Xbox One Fightsticks on Xbox One apps & games programmed to use them…even on PC apparently.
The only counter point I’ll make to your statement is this, and why I still believe there’s still some compatibility issues with the current driver for the fightstick (beyond that it’s under the unspecified where devices go when they’re not working properly)…
If Microsoft wanted a closed ecosystem the Xbox One Controller itself would also be under something similar to the “Unspecified” area, or would be locked down so you couldn’t test and tweak it. Then it would only work with the games that were patched to work directly with it. Where it’s not and almost any game (with controller support) can use it. Whether it knows 100% it’s an Xbox One controller or just some other type of Xbox controller it still generally works (older games displaying the 360 button prompts).
The final thing I’d like to point out is just even how odd the Xbox One fightsticks work on the Xbox One itself, when you’re NOT in a game. For instance outside of Killer Instinct on Xbox One, my RB and LB buttons are reversed. And what I mean by this is the following. On the home screen to go to Community you press RB on a normal controller and LB to go back. On my TE2 LB takes you to Community (to the right) and RB takes you back to Home. Secondly the LT and RT buttons don’t work at all on the dashboard. They quick scroll up or down with the triggers on a regular controller. So that right there probably means other than direct input support inside of Killer Instinct (or other games), you probably won’t see any support for none Windows games for this stick. As Dism3mbermenT has mentioned before, it most likely has to do with the PCB board.
So do mine, but they’re reversed on the Dashboard Home Screen. And my stick isn’t modded (or rewired) at all. LB goes right and RB goes left. Instead of the other way around. And the triggers themselves do nothing on the dashboard (Home Screen). Once Killer Instinct is running the RB takes you right and LB takes you left (in the blade area - the one you get to by pressing Y)
As I was trying to get at. They’re not trying to make a closed ecosystem here. The problem is with the design of the PCB board wiring and how it works with the RT, LT, RB, and LB buttons.
Side note…here’s how easy it is to make a PS4 stick work for Killer Instinct on PC. Found this guy’s video last night. Pardon his ramblings and few missing details (ie KI only works on Win10 64-bit and not 32-bit). https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/HONr7Zn_gvk
Well, they didn’t exactly do that but their phones do have the proprietary lightning connectors that aren’t compatible with their older proprietary connectors. Meanwhile over at Samsung the Galaxy phones use micro usb plugs, as do most phones anymore.
Nintendo did make a few proprietary headphones for the GBA SP that you can’t use on anything but a GBA SP.
Ya i know you try really hard but your analogy doesn make sense. You stretch too far now, you make no point.
What you says would be like if they changed the usb connector just to be sur to sell more Fighstick, that is not the case right now saddly but i see where you wanna go with this.
The real problem is with the DirectInput driver ( the infamous d-input from Microsoft themself).
They try to set Xinput as standards driver for controller but they sell Microsoft controller with DirectInput board in them for whatever reason probably a decision that made sense at the time. .
Alot of feature are missing from the DirectInput driver since the inplementation and alot of ppl have complained since as far as 2014 and beyond.
So what you’re saying is that the driver isn’t working as intended? Or are you saying that its using a Fightstick is only gonna be for KI when they update it?
I have zero knowledge about the fightstick drivers at all; the point I was trying to make was don’t shoot the messenger for things out of his control. He would have given us all the details he had, which means that either a problem happened after the announcement, or he wasn’t given the full depth of information about the drivers.
Yep same here. Mine will boot the console. Just the trigger buttons don’t work at the dashboard and LB and RB do the opposite when scrolling left and right. Oddly once you’re in the Killer Instinct blade (Y button slide over thing) the RB returns to scrolling right in the and LB back to going left. They just do the opposite at the dashboard. Most likely something to do with Madcatz PCB board versus the one in the Razer Atrox.
A lot of people forget that the Madcatz TE2 for Xbox One was the first next gen fightstick by a long shot. It was out at the console’s launch, possibly even before it. I almost wish Microsoft would just allow Razer and Madcatz to make their own drivers for their sticks (I mean Madcatz already has for their PS4 sticks, and it looks like they work great). Probably could get the issue solved a lot faster considering the sticks (with base hardware) work a little differently.
I wouldn’t say it’s a build quality issue. More along the lines of when the console was being built, there was probably some mixed messages about how the new controllers would work with the system. Other than that one little oddity mine works just as well as yours. To be honest I’d rather have a Madcatz stick over a Razer one, but that’s just me personally.
As for these controller woes to PC…I really do hope they just let Razor and Madcatz finally make drivers for their own products. Heck with the Atrox it’d probably just be auto-downloaded through the Synapse software that Razer already uses. As for Madcatz they’d just have to add another TE2 and mark it “For Xbox One” in their drivers list.
Since I’m going to be playing Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator- I’m most likely going to pick up some form of TE stick. See if it really works that easy with PC games.
The atrox is the best built stick out there yeah i know about the failures lets just say 360 version with beta tested pad hacks that used a unorthodx not best solution. The usb cables on the 360 sticks were bad. They used a funky dual mod that looked awful
An atrox xbox one moddrd with a hori pro is solid and proven best next to the brooks 5 in 1 board but thats a 100 dollar mod with a harness 30 bucks
Opposed to 20 dollar pad hack and some sodder
I had a te2 ■■■■ squeeked every time u out your hand down or movrd around the plastic slide around just felt veey cheap next to the atrox
