Will There Be A Season 4

Most games these days have an expansion or multiple expansions. Season1-3 is the base game. Now that the game is completed after season 3,expect some more seasons as expansions.

if they’re good as much as an ultimate combo pack for each character im ok with that. Surely i’ll feel ■■■■■■ if something like a season 4 with a bunch of guest characters drop instead of something really good for this game like ultimate combos and no mercy finishers.

I hope there is…

but end of day, its all a business. If KI S3 (and KI overall) makes money for MS, there will be more. If it breaks even, they may or may not. If it loses money, they will stop.

Same as pretty much any industry – all that matters is money.

Of course, MS has the funds to continue with KI if they want too (a lot more than Sony and Capcom), but that’s not really the best business decision unless they want to use it just to keep Xbox in the minds of the FGC.

I’d just love to hear that KI (S1 and S2) has sold (combined 20/40) packs for a million xbox one users and then another million or so buying single characters, etc. If the game base is healthy, its probably making money I would imagine.

Personally I think it’s very likely. They’ve confirmed another KI world cup so I’d guess they’d want to continue to pump out more content updates unless they want stale tournaments that are the same yearly. Not only that but not making more seasons would be detrimental to the growth of KI especially since SFV is doing the same model and will continue to add updates for the next 5 years.

We won’t know if there will be a season 4 for a long time. It will depend on how Season 3 goes.

What I can say with more confidence is if there is no season 4 there will not be a KI sequel any time soon. If it’s a profitable venture they will make season 4. If it’s not profitable they aren’t going to sink a ton of money into a new game. So it’s a false choice to suggest they should make a sequel instead of season 4.

From a business stand point it would make sense not to include Eyedol in season 3 but to include them in season 4 so there is at least 1 series original character to attract people to season 4 (assuming they have plans for a season 4). Otherwise if season 3 is the last include him.

Also i think the seasons model is the way most fighting games should go.

I’m sure I’m gonna get mobbed for saying this but I honestly think they should stop after Season 3.

3 seasons is the perfect number in my opinion, you’re letting the game fill out, and by seasons end (hopefully) all the characters/features/improvements requested by fans are in. Then when the game is finally ‘complete’ let it rest and grow, let the final meta game mature and expand, let all the tech be discovered and used, let the game have a final fixed identity for tournaments.

Of course after S3 keep patching bugs, if there are BLATENT game breaking balance changes needed handle those, add some quality of life features and little DLCs here or there but Season 3 should be the grand finale. Go out on top and hopefully if the game makes enough money we can look forward to an all new KI on the next Xbox system.

I don’t think you will get blasted too badly. You certainly aren’t alone in your opinion.

I’m of a “wait and see” mindset. No Killer Instinct game has ever had 18 characters, let alone the 27 we would predict at the end of S3. I’ve never been a fan of enormous rosters in fighting games - it just means there are characters and match ups that I will never see. As it stands, I am woefully less familiar with the later S2 characters compared to my S1 character knowledge. I don’t have time to play 27 rounds in a week most weeks, let alone learn a 64 character roster.

Having said that, so far I am still hype for the game and looking forward to more content. So, although I like the idea of quitting while you are ahead, it’s not clear that we are there yet. Probably better to wait until the end of S3. It’s certainly possible that S3 could be the last full Season, and the game sees a different type of update with occasional character drops in the future, rather than a full on S4. But let’s let S3 play out first.

It wouldn’t surprise me if season 3 is the last “full” 9 character season. I could certainly see them taking a smaller approach with future seasons, where they cut the number of characters added down to 4 or something like that and concentrate more on smoothing out rough edges, re-balancing existing characters, perhaps adding another mode or two, updating the graphics where possible (like how they’re relighting the stages this year)… Stuff like that.

I have a feeling that MS probably sees a future with this KI stretching pretty far, competing with SFV for years to come as Xbox’s fighting game, and that becomes more difficult if they stop adding content.

On the flipside, it likely won’t due as well if the roster balloons up to 60 characters over time, because I think that there is somewhat of a saturation point, or too much of a good thing, but it also becomes harder and harder to learn matchups and keep the game balanced both from a character standpoint and a mechanics standpoint.

So instead of seeing $20-$40 seasons, maybe we see $10-$15 seasons in the future? Just a theory.

Personally, I don’t want to see a brand new KI game until the next console. I see no need for it given how much traction this game continues to gain and the way they’re distributing it. This game, to me, is fantastic, and I’d like to see it continue for a good long while, though I respect the opinion of others that want a new game, or think that this game, after season 3, will have enough content to be “complete.”

I like looking forward to a new season of this game each year because I love what they’ve done so far. I do think that there will come a point in time where they’ll have to balance the idea of continuing the content with how much is already there, but depending on how big future seasons would be, I don’t think that has to be an issue for some time.

The Killer Instinct IP is owned by Microsoft. IG can’t just take it to Netherealm to do a Killer Instinct game if that’s what you’re looking for them to do.

Also, what is the “true killer instinct” of the franchise, exactly? You’re definitely entitled to that opinion and I don’t begrudge you for having it, but I personally think that this version of KI is the best one by far. It’s more polished, has more characters, deeper gameplay, etc and I say that as someone that played the originals extensively back when they were in the arcades and on SNES and N64 respectively. I loved those games, don’t get me wrong, but this one does just about everything better, at least in my mind. If you disagree though, it’s cool. I was just curious.

When did u find this out?

Where was this confirned can u show me? Let me guess its kim wu’s, Rash’s and The Arbiter?

Honestly with a 4th season you would have a cast of 36 charachters, at which point the game mechanics just can’t hold up the weight of such a large cast.

Alot of KI revolves around memorization, how to identify each characters’ autos, how to break each of their shadow linkers, how to deal with their instinct dirt. With 3 seasons and a very beefy 27 character roster, that’s still feasible, at least for those of us here from the beginning.

I’d rather them start on something new, while continuing to support the game after season 3 with some minor patches and balance updates.

Me personally (and I know I’m in the minority here), I don’t want a Season 4.

Assuming we’re getting the entirety of the original cast back in Season 3 (Kim, Tusk, Gargos, Eyedol) then I don’t see the need for Season 4, and I just don’t want it. I’ve said time and time again that the last thing I want for KI is to be milked into about 10 seasons with 50+ characters.

If the entire original KI1 & KI2 cast are in the game I will be more than happy! 3 Seasons is more than enough.

I would leave some of the other new character ideas (Shark man, Vampire, Gunslinger) for a possible Killer Instinct 4 a couple years down the line
