I’m not trying to say there’s anything wrong with saying SFV or other Fighters do some things better than KI. That’s true, and so is it the other way around. Nothing wrong with fair criticisms and comparisons.
It’s just that I see popular Fighters like SFV and their problems, but I don’t see so many prominent voices dwelling on their flaws and going ‘the balance is unacceptable, the devs are incompetent and don’t listen, the game is going downhill, don’t support it and play a better Fighter that doesn’t have all these flaws like KI.’
But when it comes to KI, I see a fair deal of that kind of disparaging. I just don’t think KI deserves that kind of flak because it comes off as a double-standard, tunnel-vision attitude when these other games have their own share of issues.
I’m not accusing you personally of anything. This is just what I see around more often than I’d like.
Hell, if we’re talking about recycled animations, let’s looks at TODAY’S MKX - a game of roughly 40 characters, each with 2 designated “clones/remixes” and still a ton of shared animations across the cast. Don’t almost all of them share a universal launcher animation, in addition to “jump punches,” at the very least? I’m also quite certain a large portion of the humanoids share other buttons as well…
Y’know that scene in Ace Ventura where he turns around and plays ventriloquist w/ his ■■■■?
You think KI should be called out for… whatever you were yammering about, but then you speak in utter inanities, like:
You think fallacies. You can observe with your own eyes this to be untrue. Stop lying to yourself and trying to lie to others. This is an absolutely ridiculous statement, and you should be embarrassed.
SF is “successful” for two reasons: Sony dumped enough money on it that they could afford to boast a quarter-million dollar prize pot for their Pro Tour finals, and it has legacy advantage.
The thing about having legacy players though, is that they can feel when every other character plays virtually identically, because despite all their “unique animations” (that’s sarcasm, by the way) their game revolves around the +2 cr.MP. Offense is homogenous, neutral artificially devalues reactions, and defense is irrelevant. But yeah, please tell me all about how their “unique animations” are what make it a superior game.
Sure, it launched poorly and looks like clay dolls. Those are far from the only reasons people downtalk it. Has anyone else mentioned the rootkit? A fxcking rootkit. Fxck your fanboy shxt, Capcom committed criminal acts against their fanbase, endangering the security of their personal information via direct (and unannounced) backdoor installation, but that’s okay because they aren’t reusing animations (even though they actually are), right?
^^This. It’s especially annoying when these people make it apparent that they’re just farting on a keyboard.
This is a poor group of people to emulate and, frankly a group that I don’t care very much about. I think they are being very destructive to the game and it’s community (especially their part of it, not mine) for the sake of themselves, not for the sake of the game.
The thread is turning into a pile on so I’m going to basically make my exit. I do want to echo some of the other posters, though, who have pointed out it’s not what you say it’s how you say it. Lots of people offer critiques and criticisms (including me, although you refuse to admit it because it ruins your narrative about how only blind fanboys disagree with you) without the excessive hyperbole that basically aligns an entire thread to say “wait let’s stop the conversation and argue with this guy because he’s trashing the whole game.”
@CRIS178 SFV? Really man? Every character on this game is lame. Is there any character better than the IYO worst character in KI? I cannot find one. Really terrible characters. They are all about sexuality just to cover the gameplay lack. (Same way that MK does with those ugly fatalities). The game mechanics are so slow, boring and predictable that i can’t watch a match. it is like gameplay got aged along with the characters. You say success but the whole thing is so made up. It is a fiasco. It has some beautiful stages and that is all.
Funny thing is that if you look back at early DH vid docs and some of Max’s thoughts on KI it’s revealed that that is exactly what KI is. DH took a lot of things they loved about other fighting games and put it in KI. Heck the KI prototype is the SF4 training stage.
You seem to forget that you talk how much better SF5 is than KI which is fine that’s your opinon, however, comparing to buying" colors at least KI didn’t put root-kits into your system. That in my honest opinion already makes SF5 worse than KI by a big margin.
Also: LOVE how you just twist an opinion Max had about KI and call it “TRUTH” even though it’s an “OPINION” which is in the main scope of thigns is just as pointless as everyone elses. Also I adore how you don’t look at the big picture but instead focus on tiny thing before and say that’s the truth.
You mentioned earlier how you critique everyone not getting Ultimates yet. And back then when Shago was becoming a real boy you once voiced how you felt “frustrated” about the idea of Ultimates, because you were afraid that everyone would get an “annhilation move” like Shago. As a result you one of the biggest opponents against the idea..I wonder what changed your tune?..
You make judgement calls before they actually happen, so in my queation: why should we even consider what you’re saying at this point is even true? when all this time you’re just having an opinion? like IDK…everyone else?
Since you want to be so brutally honest, allow me to oblige you. The way I see this whole so called 'critique of yours is unhelpful and at most, toxic. You may like KI yet you seem to care more about expressinf an opinion to bend the devs to your will than actually give helpful critque others are already giving their concerns but from what I’m seeing, are doing a MUCH better job at it.
Basically you’re coming off to me as is some dude who just wants to spit your “big bad ole, rough and tumble, super UUUBER hardcore attitude” and anyone who disagrees is some how “apologetic?” Funny.
You know, it “is” possible that shadow Orchid may not be what we think she is. Kilgore for example was a shadow of Fulgore.
So what fi this Shorchid isn’t exactly what we thought she was. for all we could’ve been another rebel that fought in the same fighting style as she did with some diffrences. It may not even be like what they did with Shadow Jago.
But as some have said SFV only did well in popularity was because of Legacy. KI never saw a return until 20 years later. So its no suprise that most people today don’t remember KI that well.
Up until now where people are playing it. Heck even a friend of mine who ahs never played a single title of the game actually got into it.
The entire section of the survey asking about clone characters was about there themes though. Shark TJ, Human Cinder, Ent Aganos, Shadow Orchid. It’s almost certain that they meant Shadow Orchid when they said it.
The nice thing about being older is that I was alive, and playing video games in the Arcade when KI, MK, and SF were out in the 90s. SF did not use a combo system until after KI was out. MK1 and MK2 didn’t either. The best combo you could do in SF was a 2 or 3 hit combo, and all combos starred with a jump in kick.
The only reason SF has so many games is because they released SF2 four different times. SF2, SF2 turbo, SF2 the new challengers, and SF2 championship edition.
KI is alot better game for it’s budget, than SFV is for it’s budget.
Now before you call me a SF hater, I named my Child after my favorite SF character. Blanka
I also still play SF2 to this day.
I did not mean to derail the thread. As far as Shadow Orchid is concerned, I hope she is never made. There is no real way to make her without ruining the whole Jago, Shadow Jago, Omen, and Gargos story. Kilgore was an easy story, he is just a older version of the Fulgore machine.
Now if it is between Shadow Orchid and J Dark, then I do support her. J Dark is a character I really don’t want to see in KI, Ever.
Well, what if this shorchid was just a palce holder name for a character with similar moves though nothing like Shadow Jago. Technically Kilgore is a Shadow Fulgore. so atleast we can exptect
I think the main point is that SF2 (in all its iterations) had many combos that weren’t jump HK into sweep. Climax found the coolest video possible to show the point, but if you want to see what combos are done by humans in real matches, just watch any of the many Super Turbo tournaments that are still run in Japan today.
And all iterations of SF2, including ST, its final one, were before KI came out, which is the main thing that contradicts what that other person said.
But yeah, anybody that thinks old games didn’t have combos just don’t know their FG history, and you can kinda safely ignore what they say about them.
Oh I get their point, talented players can pull off some amazing things in those old games. I was simply pointing out that the words tool-assisted basically means “I cheated” in the long run. I hate watching a cool speed run of a Mario game or Metroid and thinking wow that guy is good only to see in the description that it was a hacked “tool-assisted” run that practically plays the game for you.
Seeing a bot spam out some crazy combos in SF isn’t really that impressive is all.
